Ok folks so you can pick up the latest version from here: http://www.fileden.com/files/12269/DF4B_alpha2.cdp

Cheers

Thanks a lot. I will test it as soon as I arrive home.

Hi, Dave. I have tested it, it looks better, thanks!
Also I have found out some things can be improved,

1 The running number doesn't work, sorry. And I found we should change the range to DF4-6001 ~ DF4-65** because the texture shows that this loco is made by Datong Locomotive Works.

2 The six grey concaves should be green, may you help us to fix the texture, thanks.

DF4B update. Now has transparent windows, directional lighting and a few other bits and pieces. Using booleans to knock out the windows has caused a few problems with the texture mapping that are likely to take a lot of time to fix. Not sure when I'll get that sorted. I'm also struggling to smooth out the curved shape around the front as the mesh has some in built problems in that area. :(

Is this the problem you mentioned?

Also, I am sending a email to the creator of the model and ask him if he can make a fit 3D cab for us, but thanks for your cab. Anyway, we can released the DF4B by using the default cab Gen_RC4 instead.

Currently the running number is fixed in the skin. I will put together a version with multiple numbers in a while once the basic model is in reasonable shape. Using the 6001 range is fine.

I'll have a look at the step recesses and adjust the colour. Not sure where they are mapped in the texture.

That is one of the problems. Currently the texture mapping round some of the windows is messed up due to me using boolean operations to punch out the holes. The curvature of the front is difficult to correct because of the way in which it has been built as highlighted in your image. I will have another go at smoothing it out but so far I have not managed to improve it. It is only really visible in certain lighting angles.

Hi, Dave. Sorry, during the testing for your DF4B_alpha2 tonight, I found another mistake. The directional lighting has a problem, the headlight above only works during the daytime, the headlight above can't change with the changing of the direction at night, and the strange thing is the headlight above can only be seen when you look at side view and back view at night. :(

Thank you, Dave. I have tested it tonight, and the head lighting problem before have been solved, thanks. But sorry, there is another error, the directional lightings change correctly at the same time the light effect doesn't change the direction and you can see the head lighting still appear uncorrectly if you see it at a side view (this is a different error to the error yesterday) , I will show you three pics about that. :(

These three pics happen at the same time.

Sorry to have another request, may you add 8 yellow bogey lights for DF4B. Don't worry about the mesh, just adding the lights and don't need to put them at the exact positions, just make the loco looks real and effective, thank you!

Yup, I'm aware of this behaviour and it's time to make a choice. The ground effect lighting is built-in to Trainz and will by default light up the ground in front of the loco whenever the headlight is turned on regardless of the direction of travel. The only way to get the ground lighting to switch ends is for the operator to change the active cab i.e. go into cab view then use Alt+C to switch to the other end. I don't know a way of making this happen from the loco script. :(

For my own locos I disable the ground effect lighting and just us the directional coronas.

So the choices are:

1. Have the ground effect lighting and only switch the marker, headlights and tail lights when the driver changes cabs, or

2. Have the marker, headlights and tail lights switch automatically based on the direction of travel but do without the ground lighting effect.

Which do folks prefer?

Cheers

Sure, when do you want them illuminated, all the time or they switched off some of the time?

Forgive my ignorance, but why would a locomotive need bogie lights?

Anyway, that is a really excellent model, niggles aside.

Best wishes,
Padster

I prefer the first one, it's all right to press alt+C if I need to change the direction, thanks.
