Chinese ScreenShots

Great stuff, keep coming please! Trainzy life not only consists of "typical seen-zillions-of-times consists", these ones also count in.

Sorry, I have a request now. I got a perfect 3D model for DF4B which is the commonest diesel loco in China, but I could not put it into TRS this time. Is here anyone can help me to deal with the problem? Thanks!

Download the 3D file

DF4B-7726 is my favourite DF4B because I always met him when I was living in Shanghai.

Looks like it should be a fairly straightforward job. Let me know if you are still stuck for someone to drag it into the game. As the text file is in Chinese, I assume, what are the license terms for the mesh? Is the creator happy for it to be available via the DLS?

Cheers

The creator 图痴 has just released the model. He originally wanted to drag it into Kuju RS, but his Kuju RS is pirate and he failed unfortunately, so he released the model for TRS first. Anyway, he doesn't play TRS, it means he would not drag the DF4B into TRS. So, can you help me? Thanks.

Well it certainly looks very nice in GMax with its textures on...

To get this in game will require the bogey to be split off, some attachment points adding and a config.txt. The alpha channels in the textures probably need some work as either the body comes out as semi-transparent or the windows come out as opaque, not quite what was intended I suspect.

Looks perfect! Thank you! So, may you help us to drag it into the game? Also Communist maybe has sent you email about the same topic. Looking forward to working together.

If nobody else wants to take this on I will try and help but I do have limited time due to many other projects. I did spend an hour or so playing with it yesterday and I have it in game. Currently I am trying to understand how it has been textured. It looks fine in GMax but once in Trainz the bodywork becomes semi-transparent. I'll have another look some time today if I get a chance.

Can anyone advise on suitable engine sounds to use with it? Also is there an existing engine spec that would suit or do we need to create one?

Cheers

There is a good quality DF4D engine sound that I'm sure will do. I also recorded some DF4B actual hornsounds.

Does it look like it will be reskinnable?

Thank you very much! I have just collected some sound files for DF4B, you can download the at http://www.4shared.com/file/39859423/bf601936/sound.html
I am not sure if we have an existing engine spec or not, may be we should make a new one or use M62's.

To be honest making a rough engine spec is pretty easy based on the number of axles, basic engine power and tractive effort figures. Engine sounds are more of a challenge as the editing can take ages to get smooth transitions.

Here is the DF4B in game...

You can just see the problems with the textures if you look towards the rear. There are some white lines that are actually some of the underframe details seen from behind. Also some of the grass shows through! I think this is all due to the fact that the model has been built for another simulator and so uses alpha channels in the main texture for the windows. With Trainz there are all sorts of problems with alpha channels and so creators tend to be very careful how they are used.

The loco uses 3 1024x1024 textures for everything, body, bogies and cab interior. These are wrapped up as a multi-material as the whole thing has been built as a single unit. I'm not sure how to unpick this and assign alternate materials without losing all the mapping which his what has happened with my attempts so far. Personally I never use multi-materials as I work using very simple techniques in GMax (I'm basically lazy and only learn enough to get by).

I will play some more...

Cheers
