Today's building project is the beautiful Midland built station building at Gresley. Unfortunately the building does not exist today and I have no drawings, using two photos I am doing it by eye. @Plp if you have any idea for the brickwork above the arched doors and windows in terms of textures that would be a great help.

I particularly like the chimneys.

Not the most scenic shot in the world but I've quite literally spent all night on this - the embankments have been beyond fiddly and the PC very nearly went for a flight out the window but I've managed to find some compromise which has produced the below. It's a lot clearer than my last effort anyway! One of my ongoing battles with Trainz is skewed embankments; the solution I've settled on are embankment 'fillers', that is, static embankment assets that 'fill' a gap left by splines. It's not perfect, and I can't really see how a better system would work but I think it's an acceptable solution. What are people's thoughts? The main downside to the fillers are the long wing walls on the west side but I don't think they look ridiculous.

Looks good to me PLP. More than acceptable. I know only too well that perfection isn't achievable. Keep going ;)

@PortLineParker Wow those embankments are looking really good now. Good work.

Just a couple of shots of Gresley station building now the textures are done. I managed to create a texture for the window and door brick arches. It's not taken on the main route but instead on my testing map for my Midland buildings and the GER buildings I made with @KotangaGirl

A tough bridge to build on my Leamside route was this one at Wardley which carried the A184 and Leam Lane over the Leamside. Historically the bridge was known as Pool Bridge and the area behind it is known as White Mare Pool, supposedly because in 1793 a local trader was found drowned in the pool with his white mare horse standing beside the pool. The bridge went over the roof of Wardley signalbox which opened in 1954 replacing an earlier NER box. Class 46 D 176 heads a Freightliner train via Gateshead and thence Scotland.

Brilliant, just a quick question how far or does your route reaches Derby? As it would be wonderful as a Derby resident :)

Hi Spitfire,

Initial plan is to get from Ashby to Burton (nearly done), then Ashby to Coalville, then Ashby to Melbourne. Then Coalville to Leicester I might do Melbourne to Derby in the future. I think the pre-grouping track work of Derby is going to be complicated!!

Belmont Junction was on the Leamside Line and opened in 1844 as the interchange for the branch to Durham Gilesgate but it closed just 13 years later when the line from Leamside to Durham main station and thence Bishop Auckland opened. In the background a 4 car DMU can be seen trundling north from Durham to Sunderland. If the Leamside was ever reopened Belmont would be an ideal spot for a Parkway station due to its proximity to the A1(M) and A690.

That does sound like a challenge but I'm still glad it's on the cards as Derby is underrepresented in train games but either way I will be looking forward to your routes. : )

There is a map site for free from 1892 to 1914 I hope this helps you out.

East Boldon is seen here being passed by Q6 63387 on empties. The goods yard was hell to build but it turned out fairly well. Although it hasn't been built on it is covered in dense tree growth like most of the modern railway.

Later in her journey the Q6 passes Blue House crossing where the crossing keepers wife is making a futile attempt to dry their clothes.

Excellent work @lewisner I really like the retaining walls and coal bunkers. How much milage does your route have now?

A few new items, GER 1865 toilet block, some useful steps and my new gas lamp is actually a Midland Railway design in an authentic brown and cream Midland colour scheme (according to Station Colours and some photos) the lamp posts only became red and cream in LMS and BR days.

The Newton Garths branch was a short freight only line named after the nearby farm and which diverged from the Newcastle to Sunderland line at East Boldon Junction and connected with the Stanhope & Tyne line at West Boldon Junction. The signalbox was abolished by the LNER in 1928 and replaced by point motors. Here we see a V2 heading south on the main line while a K3 waits to leave the branch on a train of Prestwins.
