Trainz Update Announcement (SP5)

The default ground texture in TRS22PE is <kuid2:661281:85115:5> Base Texture which is Built-in. I do not know if it has been changed or not because I always have my default texture set via the Region asset - currently set to <kuid:-25:1180> Grid (PBR) which is a Base asset (never sure what "Base" actually means but it came installed with Trainz).
The default ground texture changed when I updated to SP5.

TRS22PE's original default ground texture was actually <kuid2:661281:85115:3> PBR Grass 8 Seasonal. When I updated to SP5, it changed the default ground texture to <kuid2:661281:85115:5> Base Texture.

The original default ground texture was bright green grass now it is an ugly muddy brown grass texture. It does not look good at all !!

The key here was that SP5 changed the base texture from version 3 to version 5, a much different texture. The ground texture changed in all my installed routes, which is a big problem because the route builders had applied textures to "match" the original green grass base texture, not the ugly brown mud grass looking texture. So now all my installed routes look like muddy grass. Kickstarter 2 looks horrible with the new base texture :(

NV3/Auran should release a hotfix to put the base texture back to version 3 PBR Grass 8 Seasonal so we can look at our routes again without ugly brown muddy grass.

I would try the region method but I use many different switchstands on my route and I am afraid that will make me stuck with one switchstand.

Can I simply edit the kuid number of the original base texture to version 6, so that the new base texture gets replaced automatically by the older but nicer green grass texture? Is that possible? Will that cause TRS22 PE to malfunction?

Well, what an update!
Seems like Trainz decided it was gonna do an update on steam in the background while I was off playing Farm Sim the other night, at least that's what my assumption is because yesterday upon hearing about the update I loaded up TRS22PE and found it had jumped from Build 123799 to Build 128493. I let my laptop do the DBR rebuild last night and just opened up the game this morning.
First impressions:
Only 2 DLC's needed me to update them in the content store, Bairnsdale - Orbost and Liskeard - Looe
As for booting up the game itself, I had to exit and re-launch about 2-3 times this morning to get it loaded in properly. Couldn't initially access the rolling stock library so I decided to jump into surveyor on a new route to make sure everything is working correctly.
Interestingly, track was the first to load in, then scenery objects. But signals and other trackside objects as well as the locos, rolling stock and consists were all still precaching content. I managed to somehow get the scenery objects and trackside objects to load in faster by using my picklists for route building, but the trains themselves are still pretty much a waiting game.
I have noticed just like other users, that yep, the track spline circles do stutter a bit when scrolling picklists, item menus, adding new track and junctions, even if the games overall fps does not drop. It even stopped rotating altogether at one point which was... odd.
The only loco I can currently get onto the track at the moment is Edh6's c32, because I did manage to briefly get the vehicle assets to load before switching to the consists tab. Unfortunately, the same problem that's been with me in trainz for pretty much as long as I can remember where if the consists tab is still booting up, the vehicles tab will ALSO resort back to precaching content.
No matter, it's all loaded in now. Time to test this update out and make sure it works. Phase 1: Turntables.

I would try the region method but I use many different switchstands on my route and I am afraid that will make me stuck with one switchstand.
That is not actually an issue. I also use many different switchstands in each route but I have the default switchstand set in the region asset to the most common one that I am likely to use. If you are using a different one in different places then you would have to change it anyway in Surveyor, so no effort has been wasted.

Can I simply edit the kuid number of the original base texture
One thing that I just recently learnt (after all these years - you are never too old!) is that if you have saved a route using a particular asset version (say :3) but an update (say :5) has recently been installed then Trainz will automatically use the update when rendering the route instead of the specified version. So try the following - in Content Manager disable (select the asset, open the Content menu and select Disable) the :5 updated version so that it will not be used and see if your routes are restored to using the original. If it does not work then you can easily enable the update again.

Update:
Good news and bad news: I'm very pleased to say that the turntables I had issues with in SP3 and SP4 are now mostly fixed!
Bad news is just like everyone else, I've got the incompatible spline issue like others are experiencing apart from the built-in track assets... Yep, we're in for a fun one!
edit: I've also noticed that Packaged track assets work in addition to the Built-in ones. So, I might be able to find a fairly quick workaround. Tedious, but much quicker than last time.

I disabled the new version of the default ground texture and sadly Trainz did not go back to the earlier obsolete version of the default texture. It just left the baseboards with no base textures. Very strange because Pware's fix should have worked.

So after installing and completing DBR routes from Russia/Eastern Europe (Rostov uzel 2018, Inzer South Ural Mountains, Belarusian Woodland, Balazino - Mosti, Andrushivka, and Znamensk) all show faulty assets, far too many to list. Approx 500 assets. Almost all are packaged or payware.

Any ideas?

Cheers
Bruce
I had same issue with lots of my routes last night after Patch update.

Try this: Open Content manager and run FAULTY or Missing items, then look at pkg Assets if they show Faulty, look to see what is Faulty , if it is MODIFIED try a revert to original, now some will not do it, but I had 400 some Faulty Buggers, I had to delete 10 of them, and I was able to get the other modified ones to convert back.

Why Trainz does this, I don't know, but one thing I do know, there are times when a lot of Assets are downloaded or changes in programming of the Game, it seems to me, Trainz skips a beat and messes things up in it's database.

Also, once you finish your Modified items, make sure you do a DBR (database repair).

Hope this helps you.

Has anybody else had an issue where they can't load a doublestack wellcar with two containers manually after updating and instead it only loads the top container and not the bottom?

I posted a fix for the track issue.

I think I shall delay loading this update(?) until such time as you brave knowledgable folks have managed to get the dust to settle.

Mac version is 128490. "Pop Under" error/info messages are now gone..Thank You. App is still not "Sandboxed" for Macs OS, a couple of faulty assets otherwise smooth as butter. One of the better updates.

Individual experiences may vary. As with all updates from all sources (MS, Apple, Adobe, N3V, etc) a great deal will depend on what you have already installed on your system, including system drivers, other software components, etc. My issues were limited to the track object "bug" fixed by the post from @JCitron and some phantom "missing dependencies" (which were not missing at all) from one DLC packages.

We are aware of some users experiencing issues with some track assets reporting incompatible spline when trying to place a track side asset. We are currently investigating the issue and cause.

The issue appears to affect assets installed in the previous build. Assets installed in the current build are not affected.

As a current work around, please follow these steps for impacted assets that have been installed from the DLS:

1/ Start Trainz Launcher
2/ Open Content Manager
3/ Search and select the affected track assets
4/ Right click selected assets and select Open.. -> Open for Editing
5/ Right click selected assets and select Submit Edits
6/ Right click selected assets and select Revert to Original

If the asset continues to to report incompatible spline, please try to delete the asset, then reinstall them from the DLS or a CDP.

For assets that are locally modified, please follow these steps:

1/ Start Trainz Launcher
2/ Open Content Manager
3/ Select the affected track assets
4/ Export the assets to a cdp file
5/ Delete the assets
6/ Reinstall the assets from the cdp file

Mine is "BUILD: 126273" , is that updated?
No, that is still last build.

I suggest you check your update stream.

Follow these steps:

  1. From the Trainz Launcher, select Trainz Settings and select the Install Tab
  2. Click on Change Trainz update Stream
  3. Follow the prompts and until the prompt shows "Select the patch stream... " and "Stream: XXXXXX XXXXX"
  4. On this prompt, there should be a "Change Stream..." button. Click on this
  5. From the drop down option select TRS22 (based on your build - Trainz Plus users will select Trainz Plus)
  6. Click on Done
  7. From the same Install Tab on Trainz Settings, select Check for Trainz updates...
After the update is performed, you should be on build 128487

After following your steps exactly as stated, I was given the option to update, download 12.9GB file, etc., and proceed. Not sure what was not allowing it to automatically notify me, unless something is pausing it for the issues others were having.

Too bad the DLS downloads cannot even get 1/10th this speed with my FCT. Obviously a different type of hosting situation going on here.
