Its early morning twilight on the mainline of the Pennsylvania & Berwind RR. We are at a cross-over between the mainline and Allegheny Siding and near the Allegheny engine yard. Headlights in the distance give the sign of activity and the switch is lined for light engines to enter the siding in preparation for switching today's work.

The Allegheny Local is switching Allegheny Steel this morning.

Nearly 10000 tons of train have been pushed into the siding at the plant while the local grabs the empty coal hoppers.

Was driving last night up in the mountains and heard the air horns in the distance of train coming through Mt Union.... Hurried down to trackside and caught the last few cars of a loaded grain train headed east.....

A westbound freight is struggling up the grade as it nears Huntingdon on the mainline. Huntingdon is at MP 14.5. The Huntingdon Paper Company owns a paper mill here and is served by spur seen here in the foreground. This company receives inbound loads of woodchips from the Curry Mill of the Babcock Lumber Co and produces outbound loads of paper that leave in boxcars bound for Shawnee Team Track and Universal Sugar in Old Town.

Hey Bill, no offense intended here, but do the "Eureka Store" employees unload the boxcar through the windows?

With your obvious meticulous attention to detail, I would think switching out that building is a no brainer!

Good point - I liked the feel the rest of the building had and kind of chose to ignore that detail.... :o

I have installed roll-up unloading doors in the building in preparation for the DLS:

Thanks!

Bill

Hey Bill, I'm still exploring this wonderful route but I wouldn't mind a little help/push from you.
I would like to make up a mixed consist. Maybe some coal, hopper cars for woodchips, boxcars for lumber, gondolas for paper rolls, etc. Since this is your route what do you recommend and could you give me an idea of where things would go to be loaded or dropped off? Thanks.

Thanks for the compliments, Stouthm!

First of all, if you download the timetable and use the chart on page 17, it tells the name and location of each station, what commodities it accepts inbound or outbound -- and what station or industries that commodity can come from:

http://home.comcast.net/~stage.family/timetable.pdf

For example, the first line on the chart on page 17 is Agway located in Vonny. It accepts inbound wheat from Ag co-ops (Grafton Grain) on the Grafton Industrial Track. Purina Chow at Brier Knob spur also accepts grain from Grafton.

Next, the tour gives in paragraph form some of the same information:

http://home.comcast.net/~trainzstuff/P&B+Tour+pdf.pdf

Please let me know if this helps or you need more information or some more examples. I will be very happy to help out more at any time! :D

Bill

P.S. The following pic is of Universal Sugar near Old Town on the Vonny branch and it is getting paper that came from Huntingdon Paper Spur located on the mainline near MP 14.5....

Duh, I completely forgot about the time table. Yes, I had already downloaded it with the route. I will look it over but any examples will be helpful.
