New Forum BUG Report thread

I absolutely hate the "Mark All Forums Read" button !

The MARK FORUMS READ button should not be pressed, as it is not resettable.

I have tried Deleting all Internet Options, in Tools/Delete Browsing History ... but even when logging off, when I re-enter the Forum ... it remembers that I pushed the MARK FORUMS READ button was pushed. I think that button should be removed ... as it mess's thing up, totally.

What use is the MARK FORUMS READ button ?

Isn't it like putting the Delete Route button right next to the New Route or exit game button (which is what Trainz does on the Start Page).

Why would anyone want to MARK FORUMS READ anyway, and delete all the threads of the day ?

I just hate this button ... as it is so easy to inadvertently hit it by accident !

Please fix the Join Date.

One thing I would like to see corrected is the 'Join date'. There is no reason why this can't be corrected from the user details. Our Trainz world did not magically appear in November 2006

Mark forums read - unhelpful!

Very true!

No idea.

I totally agree, although it is now much harder to do. In the previous forum it was always visible. Worse still it was in the same position as View latest posts button when not logged in.

I accidentally pressed it last year after a six week break from the Trainz forum. I'm still finding stuff I hadn't read!:(

I too, see absolutely no purpose for this function. It's more hazard than help.

The search facility does not work as it did before. When I search for my username, I get a list of threads I started, there does not seem to be a way to find threads I posted in or my posts in those threads. If I search with 'narrowgauge' as a search term, I get many unconnected threads.

Peter

Not a bug report but a suggestion. Why not reverse the order one's Trainz editions are showing below the avatar and user name. Then the highest Trainz version one has would be showing first, as the old forum displayed these and when one has many or all versions of Trainz registered, then the lesser, unimportant versions would be chopped off. Currently this looks so "wishy washy" as shown with my list of Trainz versions displayed above.

Cheers

I always had that problem, even before the forum change. It's a problem common to vBulletin's board, aparently, and not the fault of N3V. Sometimes the search works......

Before the change it was possible to enter a username and select 'Show threads' or 'Show posts' I don't see the point of the current system why do we need to find the threads we have started, it is more useful to find current posts.

Another point, previously the reply page came after the last post, now it is before the first post, to find a question being answered means tracking to the end of the thread. and then track back to the reply page, not the mose efficient way of setting things up I have mine set to show last posts on top which used to work well. Not now, alas!

All this used to work before so there was no reason to make any changes.

Hmm, I do seem to recollect that when the versions bar came back to the forum it showed all versions I have registered, but I just noticed somehow ts12 doesn't show for me anymore?
And yes, it's registered and shows up in the serial numbers list on the Auran profile page. Could this have something to do with the fact that the version I have is Railway Simulator powered by Trainz 12 by Just Trains?

This seems only a small thing, but it drives me nuts and I know it touches on a few things already mentioned, but here goes anyway:

I am not certain, but I am pretty sure on the previous version of the forum the avatars appeared below the username. I find the combination of avatar first, then username in a hard-to-read blue-grey on pale grey constantly frustrating. You should be able to scan down the left-hand edge of the page and pick out the usernames easily. You can't. If we must have the new colour combo cannot we PLEASE have Username > Avatar > StationStops rather than the present arrangement. That's a simple enough change that would make ID-ing posters significantly easier...

Post title has gone large!

Andy, the avatar was to the left of the username in the previous Forum layout. The username was bigger font though and much easier to see. I agree with you, spotting the members name is now more difficult.

The largest font in use above each post, for some reason, is now dedicated to the post title.

Here’s an example of how it was.

I have a peculiar problem with the quick reply. On occasion after typing up a long message (or the window is open for a while, the "Auto-Save" thing pops up a couple times) when I hit the submit button all it seems to do is erase the message. This is quite annoying especially after typing out a long message, as I then have to remember & retype the whole thing over again. I have not experienced this when using the advanced posting mode.

I think I mentioned this before, but I find it anoying that by default the quickreply window is used when pressing a reply option. In the old days one could choose to either type text in the quickreply window at the bottom of the thread, or press the reply to thread button what would automaticly open the advanced editor with the option to preview your scribblings. ;)

Now I have to remember to press the ctrl key when clicking on any reply option, because opening a reply on a new tab (IE9) will force the advanced editor to show up. You have an option to set the type of editor in your forum profile settings, but that doesn't seem to have any effect. At least I did try some different settings, but I always ended up with that quickreply stuff. :hehe:

You can also choose "Go Advanced" next to the "Submit Reply" button after opening the Quick Reply screen (instead of opening a new tab). Although admittedly it'd still be nice to get there automatically.

I think it is a pity that it was thought necessary to 'improve' what was a very acceptable and efficient forum design. I can understand the need to update the underlying forum software but surely that could have been done without changing the design. I think this was a gimmick to divert us away from the absence of an update to TS12 or better still a new version, TS13.

We seem to have lost more than we have gained. The losses are obvious, I can't think of any gains

Peter

The gains are (as far as I can tell):
A securer system
A more stable system (weekends haven't been that slow on here since the update)
Blogs
Auto-Save (not sure how one access the saves however...)
Community Groups
There's probably some back-end stuff we don't see

As far as I can tell your obvious loss is that you don't like the theme. Which is a personal preference, not a community-wide loss. I personally don't mind the theme. Is it perfect, no, but nor was the previous. Is it horrible, not that I see. Sure there are bugs, there will always be bugs in new releases.

I should have made it clearer, I have no quarrel with the colours, I like them, it is the functionality that disturbs me. Things that worked well have been changed for no apparent reason, one instance being the search system. The reply window arrangement is another instance.

Blogs and groups are additions, not changes.

I get the same thing - in fact I am pretty sure the function of the Auto-Save message is to tell you that your post is too long and the software is about to Auto-Delete the current reply! If there is a way to recover the auto-save it eludes me. My work-around is immediately before hitting 'Submit' I highlight it then Ctrl+C to save the message, then when it inevitably vanishes all I need do is Ctrl+V to re-type it instantly. I agree though that a proper fix is over-due...

Andy

I have to note that there have been several fixes implemented from the suggestions and complaints in this thread.

My thanks to the smurfs working so hard in the background!
