New Forum BUG Report thread

The home page currently says that there are 88 comments on the "Welcome back to the new and improved forums!" article, but when I click the link to view the comments, it says that there are only 85 comments, and likewise there are no new comments visible (my comment is the latest one showing).

EDIT: I just viewed the thread where the comments are stored (located here), and the missing 3 comments are visible there.

Two more:

"Notifications" shows 'Inbox' highlighted and 'No New Messages' greyed out despite the fact there are no new messages.

The 'Quick Reply' text box loses it's scroll bar when spell-checking with either Chrome or IE/Google Toolbar. Yes, I know you can drag the box bigger, but still.

The first one I can live with, but this forum neads all the spel-ckecking it caan get...

Andy :)

Perhaps the indexing isn't complete yet. I know that when I first installed a desktop search engine, it took quite a while before everything was searchable.

How long does it take to do indexing? Without a valid search feature there's not much value in this forum.

To add to Andi's comments, it seems there's some duplication in the buttons available on the top bar.
This probably isn't a bug per se, but this means space could become available for 'lost' buttons since the forum upgrade.

Most notable are the Username and My Profile both directing to the same profile page.

Another is the notification dropdown Inbox link and the Private messages link on the lower top button bar. Additionally, why isn't in the notification dropdown a link to subscribed group(s) if there's a new post in there.

And finally why can't I opt for a full editor directly when replying, so I can proof read my messages first before posting. Only workaround for this seems ctrl-click reply (IE9) to force a new tab to be opened that contains the full editor immediately.

Greetings from sunny Amsterdam,

Jan

Bugs ???
No link to the Download Station + Helpdesk no link in your profile to upload content no links to check anything you used to be able to check like tickets, your content, Edit Account, Download Cart & FTP Details+ others
No info to tell you what Trainz versions users have and this stupid insipid forum color and the hard to read text on a white background.
Need I go on???? this is not an improved forum if fact it is a step backwards and a poor so called improvment

Re: the missing links - see my thread in this forum entitled 'Forum and Planet Auran Links (at least until N3V sort out theirs)'.

The lack of information about what versions a Trainz user has makes it harder to identify unregistered users.

I cannot comment much on the forum colours myself.

Re forum colors. I didn't like them when I first saw them but thought I'd give it some time. But now after some time I think the current colors are bad choice. They are definitely harder to read and really tough on my old eyes.

Forget 2 cents... I got a dime here! I liked the old forum. I didn't see anything wrong with it, although I'm sure there was some reason behind the rebuild (maybe more "security" to guard against copyright infringement as per the new ACTA standards? - funny how that timeline worked out) I also know how it is with anything new that was released too soon - it's bound to be full of bugs. Hey!! I've got an idea!! Lets make 400 patches and hotfixes for it:hehe:

Not ACTA. As I've mentioned a few times here, I suspect that a lot of it was security-related as the old forum was using a very old version of VBulletin. The board was getting spammed pretty badly the last few months and it was only a matter of time before it got hacked to the point it would be used to spread malware. Without going into a lot of detail, similar had happened at other, much busier, vBulletin sites of which I am a member, so it was just a matter of time here.

That said, the old forum was superior in every way, not the least of which it had a working search feature. The newer software products aren't necessarily an improvement and vBulletin is a great example of this. Then again, what would happen to this forum if everyone who visited got infected with some nasty malware? At the very least, the site would get flagged as a dangerous site by Google and most anti-virus software. Trust me, as a security guy, that sucks, and it's really hard to get off those blacklists once you're on one.

There are three known hotfix patches for TS2010.

The first is build 44088, which is a hotfix for build 43434, but there are direct patches to that build from most other builds below that.

The second is build 49933, which is the non-multiplayer hotfix that can only be installed on a build 44088 install.

The third is build 49938, which is the hotfix for build 46170 only.

Basically, a hotfix is designed to fix a specific issue or issues that are reported by customers.

Point taken, and I figured it was something like that. That does shed some light on why it was so urgent to get this version out - my first thought was that it was like most things put out by n3v and was hurried and in need of much repair:hehe: (even though I knock em sometimes, I wouldn't be anywhere else)

Off Topic: but in TS10, I installed SP 44088 ... What the heck is HotFix ... and do I need it as well ?

No, stay at 44088. 49933 or whatever is not needed unless you have issues with what it fixes, you can find that somewhere.
If your like me you don't need it, just seems to have slowed me down for some reason. And yes I didn't read what it did before I patched.

The only reason you will need anything higher than 44088 is if you are planning to install the Aerotrain DLC, or want the Multiplayer Beta.
