New Forum BUG Report thread

The search function is just terrible!!!!!!!!!!!! No this is not an improvement to one that was just a pain in the butt.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MISSING THREADS?????????? - EDIT they're there but I didn't find them using the search functioon - which is hopeless.

I'm still searching for the one about the problems with steam locos running in reverse (My posts were DEC 27 and newer). I've search the usual suspects and on "Pearson" that I've included in every post I made on the old forums (save about 2) and on "dynamometer" that was included in several of the posts I made in that thread. I've restricted it to the last 3 months so I won't hit a limit that looks like it might be 500 posts returned.

I've also gone thru the index looking at threads back into Nov 2011. Maybe I missed it. Yes I did miss it. Found it by just stepping thru the posts. If i tried "backward" in a title search I'd have gotten lucky but searching posts with other words contained in it didn't locate it - http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?83446-Steam-locomotives-moving-backward

Anyhow really disappointed to say the least. 8-(

Slow as a wet week, and the pop-up warning about navigating away from 'quick reply' is downright silly. Of course I want to navigate away, why the heck does it think I just clicked the 'Post Quick Reply' button...

Andy...

Both issues appear to have been addressed, thanks! I still wouldn't call it 'fast', but it is way better than yesterday and that annoying pop-up when posting appears to be dead...

Andy ;)

It's too SLOOOOOOOW!
I cannot access the forum all day yesterday. Sometimes timeout sometimes connection reset. What's wrong? Are so many poeple accessed yesterday?

Same here, I could also not access it yesterday. You were not alone with this problem :)

Forums & Helpdesk were down yesterday. So no you didn't miss anything.

I guess a fairly large bug to fix is whatever caused them to go down yesterday.

Where can I find my subscribed threads? On the old forum it was the UserCP, it showed the threads you had commented in and you could easily see if there were replies in one go.

Update: It still exists, under Settings, up the top!

You can also access your subscribed thread under the "Quick Links" dropdown.

I would venture to guess that either the forums: A. crashed; or B. were deliberately interrupted for tweaking. I'm guessing B. only because when an outage occurs over the weekend, it usually lasts the entire weekend. It's rare if not unheard of for service to be restored on a Saturday.

Auran/N3V:

Judging by the sheer number of complaints, a lot of people aren't happy with the new color scheme. Bear in mind you have a lot of older folk here. And some of us younger who just dislike the color scheme.

vBulletin, at least the older versions, all natively supported themes, which allow people to change their color scheme and save it to their profile. Judging by the number of complaints, I'd suggest going back to the earlier colors by default and adding in the current colors as a theme.

I know a vB admin or two so perhaps I can help if additional help is needed i.e. addons/plugins.

Hello you guys and girls at Auran. Here are my 5ct of comment.
Knowing that every change (esp. with software it seems) leads to troubles with people not open to change and we all have our own vision on things :o, we are creators of our own worlds on many baseboard, I think you stepped up to a nice new generation forum.
Some things didn't change for the better, others were improved (at last).
For several reasons I'm missing the row with registered versions behind the users name for 2 important reasons. First of all it makes it a lot easier for seasoned users to help starters with questions knowing which version the are using, second when no "connection" appears we don't give any information at all only informing the person in question to come back with a question after registering the simulation.

Second thing I want to mention are the unclear differences between threads red and with new entrys.

For the rest I agree with most of the remarks above about missing threads, speed (although it's better today) and some minor problems.

And what happened to Albums and Pictures? In the FAQ section it says to click on the 'Pictures & Albums' link in your own profile - but there is no such link and I cannot paste pictures directly into this thread as I used to do????:'( Anybody know how to do this??

How do I attach a file to a post?
To attach a file to your post, you need to be using the main 'New Post' or 'New Thread' page and not 'Quick Reply'. To use the main 'New Post' page, click the 'Post Reply' button in the relevant thread.
On this page, below the message box, you will find a button labelled 'Manage Attachments'. Clicking this button will open a new window for uploading attachments. You can upload an attachment either from your computer or from another URL by using the appropriate box on this page. Alternatively you can click the Attachment Icon to open this page.
To upload a file from your computer, click the 'Browse' button and locate the file. To upload a file from another URL, enter the full URL for the file in the second box on this page. Once you have completed one of the boxes, click 'Upload'.
Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window. You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.
What files types can I use? How large can attachments be?
In the attachment window you will find a list of the allowed file types and their maximum sizes. Files that are larger than these sizes will be rejected. There may also be an overall quota limit to the number of attachments you can post to the board.
How do I add an image to a post?
If you have uploaded an image as an attachment, you can click the arrow next to the 'Attachment Icon' and select it from the list. This will be inserted into your post and can be located where you want it displayed.
To include an image that is not uploaded as an attachment and is located on another website, you can do so by copying the full URL to the image, (not the page on which the image is located), and either pressing the 'Insert Image' icon or by typing
after it, ensuring that you do not have any spaces before or after the URL of the image. You can insert pictures from your albums (?) in this way too.

Add Image hangs sometimes - usually for the second or third image added. I click on the "Insert Image" icon and the screen goes white-slightly-transparent, but instead of the URL data entry box appearing on top of the white, accepting the URL with tags and returning everything to normal, nothing else happens.

Adding one image per post seems safe, so I just add the first one, then edit as many times as necessary adding one image each time. This work-around may be helpful to the screenshot posters?

Search function bug: Click on my username beside the avitar and select view forum posts. It indicates it found only 321 of 1042 post I've made and finds no posts dated between 3 Feb 2012 and 1 July 2010.

The link takes me to the very first page, not the ones I haven't seen yet. this can get very frustrating...

On checking, similar problem here and there is only an option to show recent not all.

But it finds posts from 2010 back thru 2007 but nothing from 1 July 2010 thru 3 Feb 2012. What definition of recent are they using?

Bob Pearson

Not sure if this is really a "bug" or not, but just a quick shout out on what I've noticed. Bear in mind that this could very well just be because I don't know my way around the new place yet, but to me the new "search function" seems overly complicated. or at least the "advanced" search portion is. I don't get the new thing about searching "blogs" "attachments" etc. I wish i could just slap a few keywords or a user's name in the search box and tap which section of the forums I want it to look in and go like I used to be able to. And before you ask, you can still do that, but it takes some trolling to figure out which buttons do what. Like I said, it could very well just be I'm not used to the new features yet.

Perhaps the indexing isn't complete yet. I know that when I first installed a desktop search engine, it took quite a while before everything was searchable.
