New Forum BUG Report thread

It does not reject them, but it is possible to not receive emails related to them.

I think it's a new feature by VBulletin added since the previous forum version.

How does one see if there are any new private messages or are you expected to click on private messages each time just in case? On the old system I seem to recall some sort of indicator when you logged on.

Thanks John

It's now at the very top line. Right hand side marked "Notifications". The number of unread messages will appear as a figure next to this box. Click box to open (with or without messages).

Cheers
Casper

The only thing about the new "Notifications" thing for me is that the only way to see how much space you have left in your private message folders is to scroll to the bottom of the private messages page. On the old forum, the number of private messages you had stored displayed near the top-right of the screen, along with a notice if your private message box was at least 90% full. Thus, on the current forum, you have to keep a closer eye on how full your PM box is to avoid it reaching 100% full and thus preventing users from sending you PM's.

Remember when the forums showed Fooly as the newest member for months because N3V had created his forum account with a high user ID that was not the same as his Planet Auran user ID?

Well, that problem has returned with a different user involved.

The forum currently shows ludiwang as the newest member. Click the link to view that user's forum profile, and note the number in the URL of the profile page. This user's forum account has a user ID of 900010 (which happens to be one number higher than Fooly's former faulty forum user ID of 900009), whereas this user's Planet Auran user ID is 627438.

It's the exact same problem as with Fooly's account, and I believe the results are the exact same.

Note that "user ID" in this context does not refer to the Trainz user ID, but instead refers to the user number/ID in the Planet Auran and forum databases.

Hopefully N3V will fix this in a timely manner.

Regards,

Zachary.

This problem still exists, only currently there is another user account with this problem in addition to the one above: julian1969. This user's correct Planet Auran user ID is 629968, while his forum account's user ID is 900011. :n:

Regards,

Zachary.

As Casper has stated, certain forum-related notifications (visitor messages, private messages and friend requests) appear under Notifications.

"View post" oddity

When reviewing my list of posts via “Find latest posts”, the title appears as originally typed, provided I created a title.

If the title box had been left blank, the system would normally place part of the first line of text in the title box when viewing the list as in the top example below.

Recently the word “View Post” has appeared. This is only happening in some posts. It is very inconsistent.

Who is viewing what and why?

How to 'unsubscribe' to blogs?

I posted a reply into someone's blog, now every time someone adds a post I get sent an e-mail. Under 'blog settings' it says I am not subscribed to any blogs (???). So how can I stop it sending me e-mails? Is this a bug or have I just misunderstood how it works?

Oh, and N3V, the forum background is still blinding. Ignoring the complaints won't make them go away. Is it so hard to tone down the whiteness?

Dinorius_Redundicus,

To remove a blog entry subscription, visit http://forums.auran.com/trainz/blog_subscription.php?do=entrylist, place a tick next to the blog you want to unsubscribe from, then use the options at the bottom.

To set the default on blog entry subscriptions, click Blog on the left-hand side of the page after clicking the link above, then scroll down the settings to find the right one.

To set it for individual blogs, you will need to change the subscription mode on the comment posting page before you click Post Comment.

Shane

That doesn't work. The tick boxes are already empty, meaning I'm not subscribed to the blog. There's nothing to "untick", yet I'm still getting email notifications.

Just noticed that myself. I'm suprised that my suggestion did not work, as usually, unless changed, it automatically subscribes to blog posts.

Shane

EDIT: You have to manually tick the boxes, before using the dropdown at the bottom.

Go to your Blog Settings from the main blog page, choose "Permissions and Privacy", and scroll down to the options for the default subscription modes. Here's a shortcut link to that "Permissions and Privacy" page: http://forums.auran.com/trainz/blog_usercp.php?do=editoptions. I had to change these settings also to stop being automatically subscribed to blog entries that I comment on.

Regards,

Zachary.

Now that worked, thank you.

But what a fractured and confusing setup this new forum is! The forum itself has a "Settings" link (top right of the forum header). In the "Blog Settings" we see "manage subscriptions" and "manage entry subscriptions" (whatever that means?) but they don't actually control the default settings for subscriptions (!!). For that you have to go to yet another link called "Permissions and Privacy" (note; no hint of 'Subscriptions' in that title). Then of course there is probably a whole other world of settings for Planet Auran, User Control Panel, Download Station etc.

For heaven's sake, why can we not get to all settings from just 1 "Settings" link?
