I have a feeling Rev W Awdry is turning in his grave!
The mild-mannered, respectable gentleman would never in a million years have deprived hobbyists and children alike of the opportunity to mimic his delightful characters!
Hell - back in the 60's when I used to borrow the original "Thomas the Tank Engine" books from the travelling library (I lived deep in rural Devonshire), I would cut up cardboard boxes, colour them blue, green, red etc and fashion them into Thomas, Gordon, Henry, James as took my fancy.
Who sold Britt-Alcroft and, later on, HiT the rights, because this has all happened after Rev Awdry died?
Like everything in life, the hard nose of commerce takes over the simple pleasures in life! I hope Rev Awdry's family are proud of selling their birthright for a mess of pottage!
