Do you think i care about the details of the ballast or the height of the grass while driving a train at more than 100KM / hour ?

All these hocus pocus with the graphics are useless resource hogs .

I'm still saying : the current game engine is a pure joke .

Throw it out , license a better one and start from the scratch with concentrating on content and its compatibility .
So when the Dovetail fanboys praise their super realism, that's also a joke?

I wouldn’t call that trailer realistic in any dimension, their only purpose was to showcase the vehicles included in the kit (through some amusing and even mythical consists).

Even so, the 76s were made by DTG and I wouldn’t put it past them (shovelware) to include blunders like that in their products.

Now I’ll sit back and wait for N3V’s contract modeler to create all 2000 variants of the Class 47 to impeccable detail and accuracy :)
Only for Gold Members.;);)

What if I told you …… :)
What if I told you ..... that I mean shadows that don't look like epilepsy in the cab, Headlamps thar still cast light in daylight, and point light that cast light in scenery objects - not detail shadows in a pile of rocks.

If Trainz didn’t have PBR but *did* have all of these features, it would simply bring Trainz to “almost” the same visual standard as TSC. I remember 2016 being frustrated with getting metal textures looking right with the outdated tbumpenv formats, and N3V miraculously pulled PBR off and pulled me right back in. PBR is the main reason Trainz’ graphics are as good as they are.

Though I think you’re confusing PBR with Parallax - I agree the latter is pretty useless apart from a small handful of use cases. N3V didn’t differentiate them well enough since they were lumped together and hence people confuse them for one another.

Change the shader option in Performance settings to Basic. Basic is the old Standard found in TRS19 and earlier versions of TRS22. This allows for the nice PBR textures without the overhead. This is how they should've been implemented instead of the exaggerated mess we have with them due to the poor implementation of the technology from N3V

Oh , yes . The so called " user friendly " performance settings tab that is hidden behind the " developer " mode . N3V didn't even bother to add a " save settings " button to it .

Interesting when I open my Trainz Settings, Performance is right up there with General, Install, Performance, My Trainz and DEV. Not hidden behind Developer. Why do you need a Save button? Most databases auto save every change without the need to explicitly save.

One thing that has always bugged me about the million MSTS offshoots (TSW, Railworks, TSC, TSW17, Dovetail's whatever) is how dark, soulless and miserable their graphics engine is. It looks great at first glance and then when you start looking at things you notice how flat and poor everything really looks.

Maybe England is just dark, soulless and miserable? Parts of the UK Trainz community makes me think that's just their entire persona in England (to be fair, I'd be pretty miserable too if I sent off our convicts to paradise and stayed in England too :)).

Trainz has a lot of faults and a new skybox is sorely needed, but man, I really hate the suggestions saying we should emulate something that already doesn't look good lol

That may explain why they always seem to think headlights should cast on the ground in what should be broad daylight... I'm thankful trainz doesn't make that same mistake.

While I can't agree with your misjudged comments about us Brits, I agree that the other games graphics are flat. Trainz, I feel, is a cut above the rest and visually is superior to the other products. Some recent testing for someone has shown me that actually our underlying physics are also very, very good and I feel with a new skybox and point lighting we'll have a product that beats the other sims hands down. Exciting times lie ahead!

Cheers,

PLP

Oh yes England is a dark and soulless place :p:p

We just need someone to crack the TNI physics plugin wizardry and then open the floodgates to other creators! There was talk about this years ago but it’s been silence since.

I believe that proper dampers and steamcocks could be done as well, though I take it the steam physics are mostly finished.

new skybox and point lighting

This is the common denominator. Once trainz gets these I believe a lot of people will be satisfied and the sim will have the ability to compete with TSW in terms of visuals, provided all the content used is properly PBR.

The realism of a Trainz screenshot that shows absolutely no sky at all, is unmatched :) Take for example this from Discord (I don’t remember the author sadly)

I believe on the roadmap poll these two things vastly outweigh the other options.
