They teamed up with Mattel , so Thomas & Friends™ is coming to Train Sim World 5 as a DLC in this year .

In summary:

  • Mattel’s Thomas & Friends is coming to Train Sim World!
  • Add-on title = Thomas & Friends Visit the West Somerset Railway
  • The Add-on will require both Train Sim World 5 and the West Somerset Railway route Add-on
  • Included characters: Thomas the Tank Engine, Annie, Clarabel, Diesel and the Troublesome Trucks
  • Gameplay will consist of a multi-part story with a fun narrative
  • Tutorials for Thomas & Diesel will exist in Training Center
  • An additional timetable will feature the Thomas & Friends characters
  • The characters can be driven on any route Add-on using Free Roam
  • The Add-on will release in 2025

I wonder how will this affect the sales for both Trainz and TSW . :p

Dovetail is a Big Money Pit....... your feeding Corporate Greed when your buying DLC from Dovetail...... i wasted 8k on DLC from them for Train Sim Classic since 2013 and the DLC was lackluster to say the least... They use an Outdated Game Engine for Train Sim world and Train Sim Classic... Train Sim world may run on Unreal Engine but its an outdated version of the Game Engine... I have seen this first hand and the reason i stopped buying from them was because of the Out of Memory Leaks in the game even with unreal engine it was crashing to desktop left and Right.. Not worth spending hard earned money on something that continuously breaks all the time...

As far as I'm concerned... Nil, nothing, love... Trainz has survived hard times for gaming, simming and even devving and patching hotly or coldly. 😂 😂 😂

Auran first and then N3V have been lucky enough to host faithful users -even unexpected subscribers 😂 -, even those like me who vanished for a long time due to family and health problems and finally come back on top of the fence for trainzspotting again. For these long years of trainzing I haven't spent a penny on anything related to trainsim but Trainz.

The rather skeptical side of Alberte ;)

Yup. As much as we get annoyed with N3V, they make a product that has a continuum. Wait until Dovetail comes out with yet another version of TSW requiring users to have to purchase DLC all over again.

I think everything is going to be fine. Been a Trainz user for a very long time. Nothing wrong with having more than one train sim either, at least in my case. The detailed North American content from creators in Trainz is way better than others for what I like.

Their sims got my attention when they released detailed rotes of NJT North Jersey Coast Line, Morristown Line, Amtrak Philly-NY, Amtrak NY-New Haven, and now there's a user made route from New Haven to Boston. And an official route from Wash DC to Baltimore. All that is missing is the Baltimore-Philly section. What does Trainz have? Badly made NJ Coast Line, incomplete or DEM only routes from Philly to New London, CT, and Boston, and farejoint and wriedenour routes from Wash DC to Baltimore and Perryville, MD, and official route from Philly to Wilmington, DE. I have DEM from Wash DC to Philly, Philly to NY, and NY to New London, CT by fishlipsatwork. Providence, RI is on a Providence & Worcester DEM, and there is a Boston DEM on the DLS. I would have to piece them all together or maybe use farejoint's routes plus blank baseboards to Wilmington, DE and the official Philly to Wilmington route, and DEM to NY and New London, and an incomplete route to Boston. One of the NY to Philly DEMs includes the NJ Coast Line to Bay Head loop.

Yes, there are many differences between Trainz and the various Dovetail products. For me it is simple: For UK stuff at least, TSW/TSC is definitely more immersive for *driving* , due to the sounds and realistic lighting/weather. But for anyone such as myself who prefers getting their hands dirty and building or editing existing routes rather than only driving then Trainz wins hands down. I have found TSW in particular to be restrictive on which routes you can use specific DLC vehicles on, and then DLC is expensive.

The DLS is also a huge advantage over the DTG sims. If I look on the DLS then I can find probably 2/3 of all the UK diesel/electric locos, coaches and DMUs/EMSs from the 1950s to the 90s (my preferred era). I think you have to pay for pretty much everything with DTG and the release of new versions literally every year must be a huge cash cow for them.
