A plea to Spiffy for a forum change.

I do believe there is a great need tp prevent the abuse I suffered that evening. I am still grieving badly for my beloved Alan and was confronted with some terrible comments about that and other things.
This of course was quite apart from the dreadful language being posted.
As younger people view this forum and some. believe it or not, late at night, that is totally unacceptable.
It was my onorous duty to forgive this total twit for what he said, I have to because that is what I believe and try to practice, but it was not an easy thing to do. The important things rarely are easy.
After the event I needed meditation to calm my inner self and to purge the bad karma that the whole incident produced.
Yes, moderation is a real necessity and I am sure that the Mods are sensible enough to know when to step in and when not to. Banter is one thing and we all do it, but purile and targetted personal abuse is quite something else.
If we cannot agree then I feel this forum is lost.

Angela

I remember this incident vividly. What started as an enjoyable thread started by Angela turn into a vicious attack on her for no reason, and the thread was completely removed. I tried to take the heat away from Angela, as did others. But it was to no avail. It continued for at least 2 hrs before a moderator was able to intervene and remove the offending posts. I agree that there should be more stringent moderation on the forums, or as Angela has said the forum could be lost.

No need or reason to tolerate ANY offensive behavior of any kind!

I was not privy to this event but have witnessed others and must say that there is absolutely no need or reason to tolerate ANY offensive behavior of any kind. I advocate this solution, 'one strike and you're out... permanently!'

Dave

I agree with Dave.
This forum has been overrun...we still have a chance to take it back, and the time is now! Auran, please do something about the problem.

The community is what drives this game, if it becomes corrupt, then all is lost.

Cheers,
Adam

Sounds like a good idea to me - there's been a rash of trolls in here recently...

Personally I liked the original forums's traincar showing what versions of Trainz were registered. At least you could tell who was who. Having a single forum where un-registered people can post and ask would probably be the best suggestion, combined with some kind of language filter (though those can either be terribly intrusive or totally useless).

Paul

Count me in as also supporting requiring registration to post. Then create a separate guest forum for those who want to ask questions before buying.

In the past, this was always a fun and friendly place. Let's kept it that way. :)

Is there anything in vBulletin Features that works for this? I haven't read through them all to see.
I got tired of the PCTT for some time and have been watching it slowly slide into bankruptcy, it seems hell-bent on following its namesake.

Having had abuse from the same poster that upset Angelah ,i to would like to add my vote for registered users only,& a pre moderated guest forum. What happend to Angela that night was disgusting. We can't let that happen again .

Thank you

Hello Paul,

Thank you for those kind words.
I know many people don't like moderation but it is vital, especially on a family forum like this one.
It was just me that so called person had a go at, he permeated many threads just for kicks and 'lavished' insults on anybody he wanted to. The language used went far beyond decency.

Moderation means just that, a moderate way of overseeing, policing if you like, what goes on here and I am all for that.

Bless you all,

Angela

I absolutely agree, unregistered users should either be pre moderated or given read only access until they do register.

Pre moderation is used on a few forums I use (BBC probably the biggest), and where there isn't a code to register they pre moderate until you have built up a history to show that you are unlikely to be abusive.

Abuse of other users must be stopped and some action needs to be taken.
Also as this is a family forum, foul and abusive language should be removed automatically.

Sounds like a good idea - one serial number = one username, so the anarchists cannot over-ride a ban. More effective than an IP block as these days broadband IP's tend to shift and of course they can just go to an Internet cafe or even phone booth with Internet access to get round the block and re-register.

Its worse than that, internet access is virtually everywhere these days. Even the rolling stock I use have a T-Mobile hotspot in them, so does the University system I use. Even if you do ban their IP/Hostmask, you cannot physically stop them, especially with a laptop/netbook.

I agree. if people want to be rude and obnoxious, go to youtube. On youtube it is great fun to insult people and talk as much trash as you like, but here we have a true sense of community and there is even a flow of love from one to another. My grandmother used to say "even potatoes have feelings", and we trainz folk are far more vulnerable than potatoes or other types of tubers (even youtubers).

Thanks for your suggestions, I will look into this though it may take some time to implement as im sure your all aware we are releasing a new game soon ;)

I agree with your points but it will require some code changes of both planet auran and the forum software so is not going to be a quick process, but I thought I would let you all know that I hear you and agree.

Here, here.....I think it's about time that Auran pulled their socks up on this issue, if you go to other 3rd party websites, particularly those throughout Europe, you have to register on their forums before you can download anything, it's the same principle on here and should have been implemented months/years ago. I've personally asked the question before, why aren't people's profiles not fully augmented when Trainzers sign up initially, and I am well aware that anybody can have 50 different e-mail addresses, but they only have one KUID number which should also be included in the profile, and without it, they cannot register and cannot post. Because of the laxadaisical approach by Auran, gross intrusion of personal privacy, vulgar and offending comments have now occurred. It's criminal that Auran have allowed this to happen, it's about time that this crap company attitude - oh, we don't want to offend prospective new customers - was done away with. To say, that various Trainzers, who have even put the word "banned" on their avatar, because they seek attention getting personal kicks out of abusing others, and are still ALLOWED to post on this forum is a disgrace. Auran has really gone down in my estimation this year, this forum has become a circus to these idiots and Auran haven't taken any steps whatsoever to curtail this ruthless and vicious victimisation of vulnerable people. You are so indisciplined, it's unforgiveable, you operate this forum and simulator, each Trainzer has a unique KUID number - why don't you disable it for 6 months, these idiots will soon get the message when they cannot download anything from the DLS, come on this forum, or access any other functions within Trainz.
And to say that Tony Hilliam actually jokes and replies to the forum posts of some of these "people" is so disrespectful in itself, don't you have the authority to delete these threads yourself instead of responding to them....Because you offer some sort of feedback to these "people" they'll forever keep coming back with more personal attacks as they know you'll talk to them, why don't you ignore them like anybody else would instead of playing right into their hands. And if you know the identity of some of these personal attackers why don't you name and shame them, I'm sure Angela and Paul502 would appreciate knowing who the culprit is, and the rest of us will also know who is responsible....As Auran's CEO where does your duty to the community lie.
I'm sorry Tony, but you're too bloody soft with these people and I may possibly refuse to purchase any future products from Auran until you get your house in order, and I would hope that like-minded decent Trainzers throughout the world will support me. You might shrug off a few personal attacks, because you're a man, in a high-ranking company role, but vulnerable people such as Angela aren't in the same position, who's going to be the next victim, elderly, female or otherwise ???

Ex-railwayman. :(

the laxadaisical approach by Auran,

Hi Ex,
I do think you could have chosen these words, more carefully.;)

Whilst agreeing, with much of what you say, particularly in respect of angelah, I do think we should give spiffy the time he has asked for. The fact he is 'on side' is a major step in the right direction. We can always follow it up in a couple of months, if nothing further is heard.

Regards
Bruce Lax

As for the rest of your post .... Cry me a river .

I agreed at first about making it read only, if you haven't brought Trainz, but what about those that need to ask questions before buying first? Or the kind (cough, cough, urrr cough[1]) moderators/administrators could do what they do in the Suggestion area, and preview their posts first.

But I would like moderators to be more strict on chat/text speach is not allowed, and be not allowed (unless a valid reason).

With a southern USA accent
"em are ducks"

"em are not ducks"

"em are too, see 'em itty bitty wings"

"Why, I be, 'em are too ducks"

Seriously I agree that something has to be done.
These types are disruptive to the forum and puts a greater strain on the forum mods and auran in genral.

"Whurr? They arrrren't doocks!"
"Oh yes they is. Listen to them quackin'. Makes almost as much noise as your wife, they do."
"OOOOAAAAAARRRRR!"

:D Some nice ideas there

A better thing to have instead of a language filter is a feature where if the post has an offensive word in it, it doesn't get posted at all. Just like Youtube comments that don't get posted if the comment contains a website in it.

You could also add a rule where if a person tries to evade this feature then they are liable for a ban.

Bad luck if you live in Scunthorpe though. ;)

If you see a post that breaks the CoC that it appears the mods ain't noticed, report it.
