A plea to Spiffy for a forum change.

Something for Spiffy.

We are being plagued by ignorant posters who seem to have just found out some new obscene words and display their rank stupidity by using them.

Would it be possible to set the forum so that people not registering a valid username and serial number have read access only. At the moment the system allows these ignorant people to continue to evade banning by registering under a different name and they have complete freedom to post comments.

Please do something, this is supposed to be a family forum with an explicit and strict COC, these idiots do not conform.

Cheers

Hi Peter,

I agree with you and think that only users with a registered serial number should be able to post on the forums, I'll chat with Mike about this issue.

Also, on the matter you sent to helpdesk, i have passed it onto Tony straight away and once I hear back, i will respond to you.

Sounds like a good idea - one serial number = one username, so the anarchists cannot over-ride a ban. More effective than an IP block as these days broadband IP's tend to shift and of course they can just go to an Internet cafe or even phone booth with Internet access to get round the block and re-register.

The downside is it would prevent people with a casual interest making enquiries prior to buying the sim.

Most other forums with a family friendly policy employ an "F-bomb" filter which prevents offensive words from appearing or replaces them with a harmless alternative. Amusing anecdote - due to the arch rivalry between the two major flight sim sights, if you typed the word Avsim in a thread on flightsim.com forums, the f-bomb filter suppressed it!

I have so far 6 different serial numbers, so in effect I can register one and then have full use of the forum. If I do something wrong and get banned, then I can use another with a different name and continue on with my very poor attitude and language.

So I am not sure what anyone can do to stop this. I am not a computer "expert" on these matters so I am not sure of the answer to this one.

I sure hope that there is an answer as I am getting sick of reporting people/post where they breach common decency or the CoC :(

There is a difference. Anyone can register on the forum but unless they register a valid serial number thay do not have full access. In this particular case, he gets banned and come back again because there is no restrictions on casual non-trainz users preventing them fom posting in the top forum groups.

If you have, as you suggest, 6 serial numbers, you would have had to register each one under a different username and get a new KUID. Too difficult for the moronic characters like our current one to do and they would have to spend $360 for the privilege.

I don't think that illegal serial numbers will work, if they did our fungoid friend would have spread around all the groups.

Alan, re that other matter, thanks for the help.

Maybe set it so that a person without a serial number can only post in a single forum, which is separate from the existing ones (and 'inquiries' forum, or similar).

I think it is a good idea.

....and those that have various serial numbers from multiple versions of trainz are less likely to carry on like fools.

Having said that I think I am the exception. :p

Hello Alan,
Oddly I had been thinking about Auran using the registration number as a security measure for joining after the 'disussion' I had the other evening with a certain party. He certainly needed a lidetime ban and the obvious key would be to have to use the registration code because we all only have one of those so it would be impossible to come back on and make a nuisance of themselves a second time.
Go for it and make this forum a friendly, decent and family place again.

Bless you,

Angela

I applaud narrowgauge for publicly posting about this 'person'.

It's time 'we' took this forum back and restored it to what drew us to it in the first place.

Let's hope that something can be done to ensure that this sort of behaviour can never be allowed to propagate itself on this forum again.

Steve.

I totally agree with the proposal, and think that all genuine Trainzers would also agree. Restore our forum to the friendly, helpful and informative forum that it used to be.

Perhaps that forum could be premoderated like the suggestions boxcar?

I think this is an excellent idea as well, seeing as it could potentially lower the concentration of idiots to Trainzers in here.

A great need

I do believe there is a great need tp prevent the abuse I suffered that evening. I am still grieving badly for my beloved Alan and was confronted with some terrible comments about that and other things.
This of course was quite apart from the dreadful language being posted.
As younger people view this forum and some. believe it or not, late at night, that is totally unacceptable.
It was my onorous duty to forgive this total twit for what he said, I have to because that is what I believe and try to practice, but it was not an easy thing to do. The important things rarely are easy.
After the event I needed meditation to calm my inner self and to purge the bad karma that the whole incident produced.
Yes, moderation is a real necessity and I am sure that the Mods are sensible enough to know when to step in and when not to. Banter is one thing and we all do it, but purile and targetted personal abuse is quite something else.
If we cannot agree then I feel this forum is lost.

Angela

Auran ,

I agree with the others that a large attempt must be made in blocking these aforementioned posters . My grandsons enjoy coming to the Forum with me and these are not the things I enjoy coming upon !

I would also like the post count removed , but that is another issue , and most certainly not as important as this one .

My thoughts ---,DLR

I, also, would like to throw my hat into the "more moderation, less abuse" column. I have seem some pretty raw abuses here lately and feel that it is likely to continue. I moderate the DHR Forum pretty heavily and will not hesitate to ban someone who abuses the rules.

Let's keep it friendly here folks.

Bill
