Working to update CEBX 800 - need help

Sukerfish

Senior Engineer
I am by no means a professional content creator, just a fan of running big stuff on routes for fun. I'm running TS for Mac, which seems to pretty much be in line with TS 12 as far as compatibility issues, and want to be able to use the CEBX 800.

Anyhow, I began by using PM2IM and converting the meshes to .im's. I added a mesh table to reference this in the config.txt. I am now stuck because I get this error:

"Unable to load mesh file: 'cebx_800_p1_body.im'"

I do not have shadows, and it only gives a warning for that... (I don't have shadows because I'm using Crossover and I cannot run QuickShadow for some reason).

When I converted to .im I stripped it of textures and adjusted the specular to black.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Your config file should look something like this. Since your not
using shadows, you can delete those lines.

That right there is what I was missing, I was referencing a file without indicating where it was... Thank you! I'll also add in the lines to specify not creating a shadow rather than leaving it blank...

Thanks again, perhaps I can get these up as KUID2 soon...

EDIT: I added the lines to not create a shadow, but since there is actually no file for a shadow it comes up as faulty. In lieu of this I'll leave out those lines and then it only comes up as a warning for not having a shadow...

EDIT2: I now see that's exactly what you suggested haha......

Success!! Thanks for the help there... Such a silly mistake haha

Now, since I'm on TS: Mac, I cannot create a .cdp to upload as a kuid2. Anyone have any suggestions as to how I could share this for others to use?

This may seem a little unorthodox, but can you open the asset for edit, copy the folders in the editing folder, and mail them to me?

By the book, you can't. It is someone else's KUID, it is someone else's content, and that is a big no-no to share someone else's content without permission.

The flip side of this, what ever happened to the "Great DLS Clean Up"? i thought we were supposed to be allowed to fix faulty content and upload it under the original KUID's as a newer version so that we wouldn't all have to do this? (I am halfway through repairing the Schnabel myself, and I can only imagine how many others have also repaired this same asset)

Exactly! That's what I was going for.... The whole KUID2 thing. I emailed the owner asking permission to upload the repaired version as a KUID2 but have not heard back yet...

There is basically an "adopt an asset" page where you can claim faulty assest to repair, but the ones that I've fixed and tried to claim and repair aren't on the list. I figure someone has gone through and picked "I want this! And this! And this! This! This! This!....." and then never done anything with them, which keeps things from actually getting fixed. Yet another broken system. :(

I came to the same conclusion. The CEBX 800 is not on the list, but it's definitely faulty and has been for some time now....

Anyone who wants to fix this and upload it has my permission. I don't claim it as a copyrighted content any longer. I'd even send the original g-max files if they weren't destroyed in a computer crash. It was an early attempt at modeling for me and quite challenging but has its flaws. Texture mapping was horrible. Lots of modeling flaws if you look up close. Anyway it was fun and learned a lot about modeling. Not much into trainz anymore but maybe someday i'll get back into it.

Awesome, Rob!! I've already fixed a few of them..... I'll upload them now and upload the rest as I fix them!

Unless we got involved in the DLS foulup project we couldn't upload as a KUID2 - whoever fixes it would have to upload under his own KUID number since you're not allowed to upload anyone else's KUID numbers unless you have that number assigned in the cleanup project. Which has zero quality control BTW, as long as the 'bot finds no errors in it, the fact that the old one worked and the new one doesn't work is of no concern to anyone.

I know.... they would have to be uploaded as clones. And I need to fix the KUID tables too.

CEBX 800, fixed and in TS2010:

And loaded:

Uploading to the DLS as one giant CDP..... hopefully the DLS can figure it out, otherwise, I'll have to upload it as 20 different pieces. All the peices are repaired and working in TS10, and I even included a loaded and empty consist so you don't have to put all the pieces together by yourself. Just go into the consists section and plop it down on the tracks. I really resisted the temptation to monkey around with this: I thought about alpha-ing out the couplers, attaching Cloaked Ghost's, and putting it on Jointed Rail's S-2 bogeys. These bogeys are pretty reflective. I may yet go in and strip out the specularity.

Again, a big thank you to Rob4Rails (and his one and only post!) for allowing me to fix this for everyone!

Good job. I just wish the texture mapping could be fixed too. I hate the way the white bleeds over the top. Might be worth a shot for someone to edit the texture files and see if they can improve the looks of it. I really did a poor job mapping it. It wasn't as noticeable on trainz 1.3 for some reason but when I loaded it up on 2004 it looked pretty bad. No way to fix it without the source files though... that i know of anyway. It would be a nice model if a few things could be fixed.

Thanks, Rob! I've got a couple of piled-up requests pending, but I'll see what I can do with it..... Maybe I can attach some higer-res planes to it or something. If I do that in place of the signs, I should be able to do the sign area all red, and that should eliminate the bleeding issue. I'll be able to put some higher resolution bogeys under it and some other couplers on it. Maybe I'll even reskin it to its new color and marks, WECX 800.

I've got to get the other stuff done now before they come after me with torches and pitchforks!!!

Looking really good! Funny, because I did the same thing while I was tinkering, less the couplers. I swapped the bogeys for JR's but they sit a little down in the rails and it looked odd... I too have the different consists, since they make it so much easier!! I'm glad you could fix it because with TS for Mac I'm stuck being unable to upload a .cdp for anyone, so I've only been able to enjoy it on my lonesome!

And of course, thank you Rob for allowing this! This is my first chance to get back on here since school resumed, thus I have not had a chance to get back to your email, but as I see now you posted that here as well!

Grabbed a digital copy of TS10 on the cheap. Downloaded the fixed CEBX version. Been several years since I did any trainz playing. Not too bad. Nice to see accurate shadow details of the trains. I think speedtree looks too much like gale force winds. OpenGL has flicker issues on scenery but Dx is flicker free. Probably won't play much with it. Trainz requires a lot of time which I don't have these days. I'll enjoy it from time to time. I'm afraid to look at the content creator's guide. Much has changed I'm sure.
