Where are my trees gone?

Hi Chaps, I've just patched up to 57720, and the trees keep disappearing. Sometimes they are there, and when they are, I can't add to them. Even though I they are there in the objects menu, when you click on one of them nothing happens. Then, the next moment, they've vanished without trace. Can anyone explain this unwanted phenomenon ?

Are these Speedtrees? There is a limit to the number of different trees that can be rendered in a scene. This is dependent on system memory, scene density and I'm not 100% sure on what else, but I do know there is no hard limit. I suggest using the "replace asset" feature in Surveyor to reduce the variety of trees and then see if that solves the issue.

yup speed trees all speed trees and its just not "one scene" its everywhere. Same problem here, never happened before sp1.

Obviously we don't want to see negative outcomes, so if you are seeing a built in route which functions differently in SP1, please provide the details of the route and your system specification so that we can attempt to reproduce the issue and solve it.

If it is only happening in a custom route, please provide a link to where we can download it (preferably make the route as small as possible and using only builtin or DLS assets so that we have no issues in downloading.

We've also heard of trouble with SpeedTree in DirectX on some hardware configurations. If this sounds like what you're seeing, then you might consider swapping to OpenGL mode (in the launcher settings) as a temporary workaround until we can identify the cause. Also let us know what OS version and GPU you're using if this fixes your problem.

kind regards,

chris

I lost all the trees in 57720 when starting Fraps whilst in driver, exited to menu, went into surveyor still missing, exited game and went back in and trees were back.
Starting Fraps before TS12 which is the more normal way of doing things there wasn't a problem. Fraps cause problems in 3ds if I've left it running so I'm putting that problem down to fraps. However thought I'd mention it in case its related?

Unable to add trees? I had that when using replace assets nothing happened, then after clicking one of the trees on the route I had a box popup about cloning or unlocking the route layer or something like that, was late, after that was able to place them ok.

My PC specs really have nothing to do with it, OpenGL sucks on my ATI 2 gig card, and it never did this EVER! Before SP1, can we stop dancing around the actual problem here. I didn't make SP1, its not my PC's fault.
It seems I'm not the only one, and yes built in routes are doing this no matter the amount of trees.
By the look of things on the forums sp1 hurt more than it helped, but never admit you messed up for legal purposes.

Thanks chaps for your replies. Strange thing was, when I went back to the route I was working on, all the trees had mysteriously reappeared, and have stayed ever since. Mind you, I did face the Cardiff Arms Park and asked the Almighty for help !

Yea same here. The trees disappeared and it took a exiting completely out of Trainz and going back in to make them repair. It cant be the too many instances because there was no problem before SP1.

This is the way speedtrees used to behave in TS10 - once you've got 14 types (I think) you can't add any more and the ones you've got then go invisible until you've exited the game then returned. This hasn't been a problem in TS12 (as far as I'm aware), so I'd be very concerned if SP1 has brought it back.

Trees.......

Not got the problem at all now, not sure what fixed it as I did the following.

1. EDR
2. Reinstalled Graphics driver
3. Changed from DirectX to OpenGL went into surveyor/ driver for a short while, exited game completely, changed back to DirectX and haven't had the problem for over 24 hours now.

Probably regret saying this now but worth a try anyway.

Hmm, sounds like a setting in a configuration file somewhere that isn't touched by the upgrade but gets reset when taking the above steps.

Greetings from cloudy Amsterdam,

It maybe the switch to Open/GL that did it.

This seems to be an issue with DX.

without exaggeration I think even when installing fresh and run QDBR and or EDBR still things can go wrong and correct itself after a while not knowing what did get rid of the problem.
My Speedtree clean up, dissapperance in the very beginning (after install SP1 and running DX) i did ctrl alt del run task but could not reproduce it again.
A test of the CPR route crashed after 1.11 hr in DX over the weekend but when running it again in OGL yesterday the 10 hr drive run as smooth as thai silk (transparent tunnels but that is ok working replacing all of them).

OGL seems to be the getter and better graphics solution for me right now.

Only if you're running Nvidia. On AMD graphics cards you still get the weird shimmering on water areas and alpha tearing on many objects, including track splines - leaving DX as the only viable option.

Absolutely agree - this option of switching to OGL is not an option for those like myself with ATI cards. Once again, N3V demonstrate their bias towards Nvidia.....

Paul :(

I get much better frame rates with DX than with Open GL and I have a Nvidia Card. Of course, I don't have to deal with SP1 ;), so I am not forced to go back to Open GL either.

Swapped over as above. GPU-MSI GTX560Ti 1gb, driver version 311.06 , OS-win7 ultimate 64bit.
