Trainz Update Announcement (SP6)

I still wonder if moving from TANE to 22 was a mistake. Should I have just got 19 instead?
Individual experiences will vary.

Either version of 22 is far superior to TANE, but 22PE with its inclusion of Surveyor 2.0 is clearly (in my individual experiences) the better of the two TRS22 versions and better than TRS19 (either version).

In addition to the jellyfish guts, many if not most PBR textures are over-sized, don't scale well and become more like carpet when used to fill large areas.

Because of this, I turned down shader quality to Basic. This turns off the 3d component in PBR textures and allows them to behave with 2d textures when I have used them for various things such as rocks, sand, and farmland. The other benefit is running with basic shader quality is there's a bit of performance increase and lower temperatures due to less work for the video card.
I've been gradually scaling some of them down and trying to remove the carpet effect. and also making them a bit more MB efficient by shrinking the file size,as long as it doesn't degrade the image , 36mg or more for a basic texture seems excessive to me.

I'm running TS22 PE build 128487, I assume this isn't SP6 is there a way to get to SP6? It doesn't show on check for trainz updates.

Thanks John

128487 is SP5; it must first update to 129335 (SP5 HF), then to 131965 (SP6) and finally to 132285 (SP6 HF1).

You might have to change to the beta channel to get the needed intermediate versions. Currently beta and release are the same version.

and is there a magic way to do this?

Thanks John
I can't go step-by-step on what I did, as the button now says "Update Available" and I'm not updating. On the initial launcher screen, it may be the bottom button, but whatever gets you to the "Change update stream" popup box. I didn't actually change the update stream, but at some point it had me log-in, despite already being logged-in, and afterwards the updates began to reappear. I'm on (for probably not much longer) Plus Gold, so not sure if it would be the same issue, but might help.

Ta adding in the name and password then running in an admin account seems to have got there. It's just taking its time checking for faulty assets at the moment.

Thanks John

I don't know if this is bthe problem but i put my database and TRAINZ on a 1 tb external drive it ran extremly badly on my desktop (stutering ang jambing up.
i then pluged the the drive and pluged it into my laptop and it ran normaly.
the laptop isnt the best so i do all my trainzing on the desk top.
the difference between the two is the cesktop is win 10 and the laptop is win11. !!!!!!!
is this the problem. ?????

Windows 10 and Windows 11 should make no difference to the performance of Trainz. It is claimed that Win 11 is better optimized for games than Win 10 but I have not seen any posts in these forums claiming a significant improvement when using Win 11.

The only explanation that I can think of for the difference here is that it could be caused by the type of external connections you have in the desktop and the laptop.

I have read in other posts that Trainz will run well from an external drive if the drive is using USB 3.0 (or later). If the drive and the laptop both support USB 3.0 while the desktop does not (or you are not plugging it into a USB 3.0 port on the desktop) then that could explain the difference.

My theory at least.

Agreed. but i dont think any one has mentiond which system they are running, it might be the problem.
microsoft stop improving 10 this month they might stop earlier. there have been a couple of fairly large win 11
updates in the last few weeks.

Microsoft has ruined Windows 10 with the latest final "updates" by making it slower and heavier as they've added Windows 11 features to it. I have a couple of Windows 10 systems I can't upgrade to Windows 11 due to proprietary software and they've effectively become paperweights.

One of the systems runs some digital music software used to drive my digital grand piano via MIDI over USB. The system ran fine until the final updates and now there's constant buffering and latency issues that I've traced down to various Windows processes that run constantly using Latency Monitor. These spike the CPU and cause a buffer underrun and a huge stutter in the audio.

Windows 11 was supposedly better for games, however they recently "fixed" something causing performance issues that they admit are there since 24 H2 came out with no plans to fix them from what I can tell.

If N3V would just add linux compatibility to Trainz. I'd never have to use windows again...
