Trainz Update Announcement (SP5 HF)

I had all the games installed on WD HDD, a year ago I bought a regular Kingston SSD SATA 3 for games. The DBR took five minutes on HDD, and it takes half a minute on SSD.

The SSD differs greatly in the speed of processing small files. This difference can be seen in the bottom two lines of this test:

And I recommend regularly checking the status of the disks via SMART. I saw in advance the approach of dying for several disks and successfully replaced it.
I took a screenshot of such a dying disk a long time ago, from which I immediately successfully copied all the data.
It's in Russian, and there's a large yellow label that says "Alarm!" , and a yellow dot marks the ID reason of that attribute.
I can also use SMART to determine which disk is already on its way to receiving a "Alarm!", it was C8 attribute with an ever-increasing RAW value:

Strangely, I did not realise that my desktop computer had an SSD as its main drive (it must have been in the specs somewhere but true geeks do not read the manuals). I did notice that its disk read/write times seemed significantly faster than what I expected. It was only when I decided that it was time to defrag the drive that my disk management software informed me that it was an SSD and did not need defragging.😯

You should trim the SSD periodically. This will help reduce the wear down on the SSD. Windows defrag will do that automatically and you can do that from the command line if you want, or use the application.

next week hardware upgrade with rtx 4060 ti, 32 gig memory and ssd samsung 990 pro 4 tb .
You'll love your new 990 Pro SSD. Same as mine, which I installed as my C: Drive. Super fast and makes a huge difference for Trainz EDBRs and TrainzUtil.exe operations. (My current production/ gaming rig has five SSD drives for a total of over 10Tb physical storage space.) Each Trainz installation is on a separate SSD drive, so I can monitor their individual performance.

Bonjour a tous,

Hello everyone,

Are any of you having trouble upgrading to SP5? Currently on trs22 PE Sp4 build 126273, I've tried the SP5 update several times, but each time it freezes during the download, and I keep getting the same error message. Do you have any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Sincerely, Aurélien

That is most likely (in my experience) caused by an external factor such as your Internet connection or another app running that may be blocking or interfering with the download.

Some suggestions - based on my experience in dealing with similar issues:-
  • Are you using a VPN? If so disable it and try again
  • Have you added trs22.exe to your antivirus realtime scan exclusion list?

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, I had already tried this before my post. TRS.exe is indeed excluded from my antivirus, and I don't have a VPN. I even tried completely disabling the antivirus, and I got the same result. What's very curious is that on March 22nd, I upgraded to SP4 because I forgot to do it when I installed Windows 10 last summer, and everything went very well.

Sincerely, Aurélien

Do you try to make the update as an adminstrator, that ist with your administrator account? If not, that may be the reason for the error.

6 hours later and I am still waiting for the rebuild to complete.

Currently at "checking for faulty assets(582177 / 727260)"
26871 (and increasing) What does this figure mean? Surely I don't have 26K+ faulty assets?

Anybody know?
Have you checked the release assertions are not active? The latest build will show assertions during the rebuild and need to be cancelled before the rebuild can continue.
As for the failed download, is there room on the C drive?

Asset Groups Bug Fixed!
We’re happy to announce that the "Asset Groups" bug in SP5 has been fixed with our latest hotfix update! This issue affected the placement of trackside objects on certain splines, but thanks to your reports and our investigations, we’ve resolved it.

What Was the Issue?
The bug was caused by a database repair process that could corrupt asset compatibility data.
It affected DLS and locally installed splines. Built-in and packaged DLC content were unaffected.

What’s Changed?
The hotfix ensures that affected splines and trackside assets now work correctly.
Users no longer need to apply workarounds—the issue has been resolved.

Looking Ahead
We’ve improved our testing and release processes to catch similar issues earlier.
We’ll continue refining our communication to keep the community better informed.

Thank you for your patience and feedback—your support helps make Trainz even better!

Hello! I am still having issues with my textures being blurred on Locomotives. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you!

I am hoping someone can help me solve this? When SP5 was first released, I would get a data mismatch error when verifying the downloaded patch. Knowing a hot fix was being planned, I waited to now to try downloading the patch again. Well, I am still getting the data mismatch error when verifying the downloaded patch file. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Please disregard. I finally figured out the problem. The issue was Norton. I disabled the auto-protect and the entire process worked.

I am ignorant of how Norton AV works but a better solution than turning off the auto-protect completely (whatever it does) would be to add TRS22.exe to the Norton AV real time scan exclusion list (if it has one). This leaves auto-protect on for other applications while stopping the download problem for TRS22 - and possibly avoid the same issue with the DLS and DLC as well.

OK. This is really becoming annoying.

I held off doing the update because of the issues that were identified earlier. It looked like these had been addressed with the latest hotfix so, last weekend, I finally thought it sounded safe to install the patch.

After updating, the game went into the usual EDBR (which takes around 7 hours or more on my machine) but it would would crash right near the end of the "checking for faulty assets" process. After a few cases of that happening, I decided to follow the process I had done in the past when something similar had happened after an update, which was; create a new Local Data folder, and then copy the 'local', 'original, 'packages', and 'screenshots' folders from my old Local Data to the new Local Data folder; and then run an extended database.

This seemed to work eventually (after hanging one one of the last files during the "checking for faulty assets" for nearly a day!).

But now, whenever I open the game, it seems like it is going into a background DBR every time? Previously whenever I started the game from the launcher window, if it needed to do a DBR, the DBR progress bar would come up and the process would have to complete before the game would start. So I could at least see what was going on.

Now, the game starts, but I can hear (and see on Task Manager) that the drive where my database is is maxing out, just like when it does a DBR, but there is no progress bar to see what it's doing. Also, it seems that any time I ask the content manager to list faulty assets (to try and clear all the false-positives after a DBR) or "Show Errors & Warnings" on any faulty asset, it seems to go into another background DBR.

And when I do get to try and clear some of the false-positive errors, if I have an asset which shows "faulty dependencies", when I go to those dependencies and clear the errors so that the asset is no longer showing faulty, the dependant asset never clears error. Even though none of its dependencies have any errors any more.

The game is pretty much useless to me now as it takes far to long to try and switch between tasks or screens or load routes or assets etc while the DBR keeps running in the background, and I can't see any progress indications to at least know were it's at in the process. Plus, I can't clear a lot of the false-positive errors either.

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? Is there a way to stop it trying to do DBRs all the time?

Cheers,
Piere.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, ZXPath has not been updated since 2021. It was working fine up until TRS22 SP5, prior to the hotfix.
