Trainz Update Announcement (SP5 HF)

Same, I gave up on it after two four hour attempts. It just hangs and does nothing.
Same here with Steam version. The Database rebuild is crawling along, 186 of 9740 asset folders scanned after nearly 45 minutes. Why can't this process go on in the background and allow you in the game to work on your route. Or remember where it got to and resume from that point if you come back later. If this doesn't clear down shortly, on the verge of uninstalling '22 and going back to TRS19.

I noticed that this DBR is a long one but when I ran a second one, due to being down a patch because I went through the beta update, the subsequent DBR was very quick and didn't slog on for nearly a day.

Downloaded and installed in less than a few minutes. Full DBR took about less than 5 minutes, all worked and no faulty assets.(y)

The Animations are still having issues with a humping effect on my large Map, does not seem to be a frame rate issue as it holds at 60fps steady even when the carz are jerking down the roads, and the Windmills sputtering like a Clock's 2nd hand rotation every split second.
I think that I do understand that these updates are targeted for a specific issues. I am confident that the Dev's will get it done.
I will just stay with my old 122411 build for the time being.
Kind Regards to all of you in the Community for being there for us.:)

6 hours later and I am still waiting for the rebuild to complete.

Currently at "checking for faulty assets(582177 / 727260)"
26871 (and increasing) What does this figure mean? Surely I don't have 26K+ faulty assets?

Anybody know?
Ya mine went into a EDBR too and I already fixed all the problems with the last update... The 26871 I believe is the asset folders scanned kindda funny I only have 84k of assets downloaded on my system so I am assuming it scans all the on the DLS folders too?

Seems to be hitting both versions for some people then, I'm using the retail Plus.

I had no problems running the update on 5 copies (1 x Trainz Plus retail, 3 x Trainz Plus beta, 1 x TRS22PE retail) on 3 different computers. No delays or asset scanning issues.

Plus seems to be really hard hit. We not only have the very long database rebuild but also a have the "invisible" database repair requiring us to open up the logs to view the process.

Have patience with the patient. This is a long slog especially if you have Plus. My DBR took 22 hours or more with the majority of the time spent on validating assets and precaching them.

Seeing the faulty assets check is normal for a DBR, or in this case, an EDBR. You probably don't have any faulty assets but check in the end anyway and view errors and warnings to revert them.
Thanks For the comforting words John. I only had to wait another hour. All up, from "do it" to "done" took just under 7 hours. Istill don't know what the solitary number on the 2nd line is though. It was in the low 40Ks at the end. I couldn't see any (new) faulty items. And so far, so good.

I was getting a little concerned as I had never had a patch take so long before and with others reporting it only took 10 mins or so...well you do start to wonder if the whole shebang has been trashed.

Now to resume my regular schedule.

Did notice the silent db via the log, I've been trying to get mine to finish for about 14 hours or so. Will just have to wait I guess, thanks everyone for the info. It does help a lot.

What’s Changed?
The hotfix ensures that affected splines and trackside assets now work correctly.
Users no longer need to apply workarounds—the issue has been resolved.
I created a couple of tickets a few versions ago and repeated this after each update. I've always been told that this will be fixed in the nearest update. This has not been done so far. I understand that there is a certain priority for fix it. In this regard, I want to ask if there will be any more updates to fix the remaining issues?

I would suggest that "update" here refers to an SP (Service Pack). The recent SP5 was actually a HF (Hot Fix) to solve a specific problem.

On occasion I have submitted a bug report and have been told that the fix will be a few updates away - which has always turned out to be the case. Exactly how many "updates away" depends on the complexity of the problem.

Everyone expects that their reported problem will be fixed in the next update. Bug fixing is rarely that simple.

After this update my build no longer runs, I cannot view assets and if I try to, the database will preform a rebuild and then crashes at the end, and if I do nothing the menu won't even stay open for longer than 10 minutes.

My DBR, as well as EDBRs, keeps freezing at the Faulty Assets Check. Refuses to budge even after leaving it on all day yesterday on my first attempt and all night for my second attempt.

Attempting a reinstall to see if that helps.

I noticed my hard drive crunching away because I use old spinning rust disks. That prompted me to open up the logs and watch. I got burned before and had a hunch that the process with chunking away.

Yup, sit out and wait.

I created tickets back in SP4 mainly for these issues: https://forums.auran.com/threads/installation-use-of-ts19-and-ts22-on-one-pc-issues.178609/

That's why I asked:

Time to upgrade your Trainz drives to SSDs, John! These are absolutely the best single performance upgrade possible for any build of Trainz (after ensuring that your GPU & VRAM combo is adequate for running Trainz, which in your case, is more than sufficient). They are amazingly affordable these dayz, and can be purchased in 4TB and 8Tb sizes to further increase performance per watt and reduce cost per megabyte. MTBF in reputable solid state PCIe NMVE brands typically exceeds that of 'ol spinning rust drives by wide margins.

.. i did 3 trainz plus versions : 1 complete "full dressed" and 2 "specials" (with only the minimum installed routes for the necessary assets, used in those projects with favorite layouts) = 1x from 128486 and 2x from 126280 to 129343 ..
took me total time of nearly 2 hours .. for the moment no notable issues ..
next week hardware upgrade with rtx 4060 ti, 32 gig memory and ssd samsung 990 pro 4 tb .. keep on having fun ..

That has been a future plan for a while now, but right now I've got some tight expenses with extra high utilities, thanks to National Grid gouging us because they can.
