Trainz Update Announcement (SP4)

Ha still dead in the water, Trainz support told me to install something that's already installed, vc_redist.x64.exe.

Since it must be early morning Saturday there by now, I guess nothing is going to happen for days.

What gets me, there's no log file I can find, no trace of any problem, it just tries to start and dies.

If anyone has suggestions I'd appreciate it, have reinstalled, rebooted, checked for updates, and per Trainz support did a "repair" install over what I already had installed, it had no effect.

Thanks.

I didn't know this was available via Steam yet. While I'm not familiar with the Steam version, I do use Steam for other things. Trainz being Trainz... It sounds to me as if something is being blocked causing the update to hang or fail.

Try excluding the Trainz program folder, TRS22.exe, and your User Data folder, aka the Build folder, from your antivirus real-time scan.

You may need to delete your system temporary files, too.

Only issue that I am seeing is panning the camera is rather clunky. There is no smooth/precise rotation as before, only jerky movements. Speed of moving around is fine, just only rotating/panning in Surveyor.

Haven't explored any further. If I find any more issues, will post an update

Thanks for the suggestions, @JCitron, I tried those and no change.
What bugs me, I have a recently completed MSCS, if this was Linux I'd be all over it.
In Windows, I only know the Event Viewer and a few logs I've identified, but nothing fruitful shows up.
Somewhere on this computer there has to be a log entry with a clue!
Thanks again.

@Thad09 read up in this thread this change was discussed, I think here https://forums.auran.com/threads/trainz-update-announcement-sp4.178247/post-2021917

I cannot get any updates, also my build number is showing 122418 (trainz22PE). think I might be stuck in a time warp here!

Unfortunately, Windows desktop operating systems don't have that kind of logging that I'm aware of either. Linux and Unix are more verbose for things like that but unfortunately here too, some Linux distributions are becoming more Windows-like and are being dumbed down and almost Mac-like which is sad. I've used Solaris, Oracle/Red Hat, and Ubuntu, and both Oracle/Red Hat desktop and Ubuntu are pretty much locked down.

Anyway, you might want to try reinstalling the program. There's a new version released, at least there is for those that purchased directly from N3V, so I'm going out on a limb and assume it's also available for Steam.

If it is available, uninstall your current version and then install the new one that's already up-to-date. This will update your program and it should then run the database repair. I did this for my non-beta installation the other day.

Can we at least get the option to have the old camera sensitivity back? Using holding shift down every time I rotate the camera is just impractical to say the least.

it just tries to start and dies.
Are you running it as administrator? The only reason I ask is that I just reinstalled TRS19 and I was getting exactly this behavior. It would try to start then just disappear. No errors, nothing in Event Viewer for Windows Applications. Then I noticed down in the System Events, there was an error in dcom, stating some kind of permissions. I went to properties for the TRS19 icon and checked "Run as Administrator", and now it works fine. Of course, YMMV.

Same here about the Mouse recent issues, my Mouse is now working very good in Surveyor.
I did notice the sensitivity was increased, but it is because the performance is much better in this build.
My Mouse has a sensitivity button on the top middle, I push that a couple of times, and the sensitivity slows down perfectly.
There are also Mouse options in Windows to adjust your Mouse settings.

I'm glad you were able to solve that. As I said, I set my sensitivity all the way down. I have to because fast movements give me awful vertigo. We can say we get sick of using Trainz but it shouldn't make us sick while using it!

"PT Yellowstone Mt. & Central Railroad" DLC route in Trainz Plus SP4 126280: all bushes are gone, only trees remain. It looks so... empty!

Yellowstone route I know used clutter effects over the turffx since it was a converted mobile. I'm guessing since it went over 200m that they are done from view.
There are other payware DLCs that have this issue. My Harvard Sub route is another example.
I've already mentioned this in my post along with a bug report sent.

Cheers

Greetings Trainzers,

No serious issues to report with this patch so far, and no AI derailments as yet.

There was one thing that that I immediately loved with Trainz22PE which changed that I want to ask about though - prepatch (at 23801) I could move the "eyepoint" around laterally and forward/backward using the arrows/pg up/pg down keys while inside the train cab. These controls are now rotating the eye direction rather than moving the eyepoint itself.

I've played around with settings and whatnot to try to restore the ability to move the eyepoint around but have failed so far.

How might I reaquire this ability in the new patch 126273 ?

As far as I know that isn't the normal behavior unless it was a keyboard shortcut. Normal behavior in the cab view is to hold the right mouse button and move the mouse to rotate the view and use the mouse wheel to zoom.

Well, you learn something new everyday. Those keyboard shortcuts do work in my updated version of Trainz Plus. I've used them for years in exterior cameras but never thought to use them in cab view. Check under Settings>Control Settings>Driver>Camera Controls to see if they are there.

Took the plunge with the update and no real issues for me. Maybe a slight performance uplift and faster compass, but this isn't a problem for me.

Things not fixed for me:
- Portals still emitting the occasional ghost train, with carriages of the consist missing and unable to attach a schedule
- In Surveyor 2.0, when you undo a scrapbook paste you cannot then paste it without re-loading that particular scrapbook (it only pastes the textures)
- Using Pguy's Timetable and MC Stop rule does not result passengers loading/unloading (this was broken by a previous build)

Post bug a bug report regarding the scrapbook issue. Someone may have reported it before and a fix never made it to the update, or got lost somewhere.

Contact Pierre. He may not be aware of the issue.

The portals. Are you using the small Portal Basic? These have been buggy and tend to produce driverless trains while the regular long Portal Basic works fine.

And TRC's still don't work.

I'm having the same issue as HiawathaMR and HPL. Clutter effects are not showing up at all on routes that previously had them.

I agree that the sensitivity change is... odd to say the least. I can work with the changes just fine... but why was this even made?
