Trainz Update Announcement (SP4)

I agree that the sensitivity change is... odd to say the least. I can work with the changes just fine... but why was this even made?
It could be that the program works better and our old settings need to be lowered. With my mouse settings down to the lowest, as I've had them set since I started in December 2003, I didn't notice any difference except for zooming around being better.

That's a possibility. The difference I noticed was in rotation speed using the arrow keys rather than movement though

Guys, I need some help. My edition of Trainz is Build 119451, so TRS22 SP1 (Windows). I am a Gold member and whenever I go and follow the instructions to update my version of Trainz to SP4, I get a window that says 'No update for Trainz is available at the current time', and I checked for an update three times and got the same result three times.

Update on my situation where Trainz won't start and there's no error, on the second round of support, after first telling me to install files that were already installed, they asked me to send them a system report generated with dxdiag (this is Windows).

So I might suggest to people who want to save a step/day in their support process, provide the DxDiag.txt file on your first ticket submission to them.

In Windows Windows-key-R and enter dxdiag, then Save All Information to a .txt file, and upload that file in your support ticket.

I only recently got this game and didn't realize how addictive it is, I'm jonesing after being down since the SP4 update rolled out.

Post bug a bug report regarding the scrapbook issue. Someone may have reported it before and a fix never made it to the update, or got lost somewhere.

Contact Pierre. He may not be aware of the issue.

The portals. Are you using the small Portal Basic? These have been buggy and tend to produce driverless trains while the regular long Portal Basic works fine.
Thanks John.

I've submitted a bug report for the scrapbook and portal issues and contacted Pguy regarding the passenger issue. There are reports of other users experiencing what I do in regards to the portal issue. I use the built-in Portal, having swapped from the Portal Basic to try to fix the problem, but without success. I also experienced consists getting stuck at the end of the portals, blocking them, which effectively ended the session, but now have the consists deleted when they complete their tasks.

I'm not sure what is happening, but since the update to 126280, my ability to change ground height has gone out the window. Everything else seems to be working correctly, as best as it does. I have restarted the program. I ran a DBR. I even lowered my settings, and nothing seemed to help.

My system isn't bogging down anywhere else but with elevation changes. I'm running WIN11, i7-13799, 32 GB of physical RAM, and virtual memory is set to the same. I've got an RTX4060 GPU, and running the program from my internal SSD. I tried moving the data folder from a second HDD to the SSD. It made no difference,

I don't know if there's a problem (bug) with the program, or something corrupted in the update, or what it is. I am seriously considering the rather drastic measure of wiping all traces of TRS22+ from my machine and starting all over again. However, when I did that in the past, it took forever to update all the patches to get up to speed. Any suggestions, hints, magic incantations, or the like are welcome.

Sorry I should have explained.
The following link represents notes that I have been recording since updating to SP4.
My session(s) now run great without any CTD's.

It would help if you listed all the steps involved in your attempts to change ground height. I am experiencing no such issues with ground height in build 126280.

Thanks for tip with DxDiag. I wanted to return to trainz after 6 years. So I bought TRS2022 yesterday. Installed it and update it to newest SP4. Game won't start. Perfect. So I reinstalled it. Run it just with installed SP3 and it runs. So I applied SP4 again. Not working again. So I'm also one of the affected by this problem. That needed vc_redist installed, Nvidia drivers updated to the newest already. But nothing. After update clicking on the game icon nothing happens. So I'm going to contact their support team with the DxDiag file.

Ha I predict they'll do to you what they just did to me, they're claiming my Nvidia 3060 Laptop video card isn't active. They told me to choose the right card, whatever that means.

I looked in a few different places and everything says my card is up and running.

I asked them to provide the next several troubleshooting steps, they're just giving me bad advice one day at a time as it is.

I understand it's hard for them to get over their "works on my machine" mentality, I actually expect them to tell me to pound sand pretty soon here.

And to be fair how the bleep do they know what kind of crazy things I'm doing in my environment? This is my development machine and my video editing machine too, so there's a lot of stuff installed that might be a conflict.

I guess the next step is to install it on another computer. Somehow I doubt my 8th gen machine, no matter how much a workhorse it is, will run Trainz, it only has a Radeon R5 430 installed.

I'm running RTX 4090 in my desktop PC and my hungry flight simulator alias MSFS is running perfectly so inactive GPU can't be the issue. I Never actually heard about gpu beeing inactive. I bought the game yesterday so If they cannot come with solution I will request a refund from them. I wanted to go back to building maps but this put me off quite a bit.

They just saw that I have a USB-based graphics adapter for my 3rd monitor and latched on to that.
I hope they escalate my issue to someone who can give me some productive troubleshooting steps.
But I think in the end they don't really care if a few users are bricked, it's too much trouble too figure out what they're doing wrong.
I'm really underwhelmed by their support so far, I'm getting used to the idea I've wasted my money and need to move on.

With Trainz being as different on everyone's machines, I no longer have those portal issues which I had before.
I'm glad you did the rest.

Work with the forums instead of the helpdesk for things like this. The helpdesk is one person who manages many other tasks as well.

Anyway...

What model laptop do you have?

As you probably know, some have an integrated Intel chipset as well as a discrete NVidia or AMD "card". I don't know what it's called for AMD, but NVidia uses what they call the "Optimus" software to manage both graphics types and switch between them. From memory, some laptops have some settings in the control panel for the graphics support with one of the items to auto-detect the software and switch automatically, or some sort of software utility installed to manage that. I know this is how it works because it works on my Alienware M18 R2 without issue. When not using Trainz, the laptop switches automatically from the RTX4090 back to the integrated Intel chipset.

In addition to software, some may require a setting in the BIOS to enable auto-switching. This means hitting some sort of key-combination while the machine is booting up prior, the Windows circle, and entering into the settings. Dell for example has the users press the F2 function key, for example.

You mentioned in another post that you have a USB display port. Is this current attached? If it is, disconnect that and try again. It could be that Trainz has detected that and sees that instead and that's not driven by the NVidia 3060.

I actually solved my issues just now. I installed basic TRS2022 SP3 from installer. launched it. It created data folder. I updated to SP4. Deleted whole data folder. launched the game and Voilà, it worked. Game created new data folder and now it's working. So the local data folder was making a mess with the update for me.

That's good to hear. Something got munched by the sounds of it. I always check Task Manager after I shutdown Trainz to ensure that the database has been closed prior to shutting down my computer. This isn't an issue with small routes but when routes become very large, such as mine, it takes longer to shut down the route and exit
