The picture is looking south, from a station platform, at a rather unique curve on the Brown Line.
Do a little bit a digging, even use google maps, and I just basically gave you the answer

Nop it was 4th Avenue, see there are tunnels at the end of the station? Smith/9th is way up in the air and could not have tunnels.
