The Aurania Thread

The next comp will probably take the form of a quiz. I have my hands full with other things at the moment (the garden pond has developed a leak and needs replacing:( ) but you can expect Comp 2 in the next week or so.

I would just like to point out that Zwabberaar has very kindly donated his prize to charity. A nice gesture.

Best wishes,
Padster

TRAINZ AND THE CITY
Aurania Competition no. 2

In this competition, each entrant is required to build a one-board city complete with through station. Building even a one-board city can be time consuming, so please feel free to use splines wherever possible: this will also ease the load on the processor. You may use 3D buildings closer to the track. As the winning module will be uploaded to the DLS as part of Aurania, please especially consider rule no. 2. This will help keep dependencies to a minimum. The city should have an old feel, so we are not looking for acres of glass and steel!

Here are the rules

Competition Rules

1. Three screenshots per entrant of their own work from different perspectives.
2. DLS content permitted. Max. download of 5 different splines & 5 different buildings. Track and platforms count as splines so choose wisely.
3. The finished module must be able to be downloaded by me and be compatible with TRS04.
4. Station to be a 'through' one going North to South.
5. Track and platforms may be of your own choice but must not include signalling.
6. Editing of posts is not allowed. Your original post is final.

Break these rules and it's game over chaps.

Title your screenshots 'Aurania Comp 2'

Competition Closing Date

Wednesday 25th June

Entries submitted after this date will not be accepted. The winner will be chosen on Friday 27th June.

Judging

I had planned to have a panel of judges, but it is hard to get several people to agree on the same things, so I will do the judging myself. The screenshots will be judged on realism, style and achieving a balance between performance and detail.

Prize

The winner will receive by post: Sid Meier's Railroads. The winning module will be uploaded to the DLS as part of Aurania in July.

Due to low interest, this competition is now

CLOSED

Best wishes,

Hi Padster,
Can I ask some questions please,

1. Can the track be any you like ?
2. Does it mean 5 Buildings and 5 Splines or 5 buildings and splines together?
3. Does the track count for spines?

Cheers!

EDIT: One more question, if you have to signal it all, do the signals count for downloads?

Thanks again

Hello 143. If you download track then it counts as a spline. I am trying to cut down the amount of dependencies required when the winning module is uploaded to the DLS as part of Aurania.

Best wishes,
Padster

Thanks for replying Padster:). Even though I can't put any signalling down, is it all right for me to put markers down like track directions and names of sidings (using the red marker in sureveyor).

Cheers.

Would potential entrants please note the amendments to the rules. This is because of changes made to the Aurania route which will now be a continuous loop instead of end to end.

Best wishes,
Padster

Can the city have a few terminal platforms then because on mine I put a large engine shed and carrige sidings.

Sorry to keep asking questions.

Yeah, that would be great. As long as there are at least two through platforms you can do what you like.

Best wishes,
Padster

P.S what part of South Wales are you from?

Okay then cheers, I'll put 2 terminal and 2 through on there:)

Also the part of South Wales I'm from is the Rhymney valley north of Cardiff.

Just letting people know that this competition is now CLOSED. This is due to low take-up and interest. Apologies to all those who may have taken part, especially class143, but as there were few people interested, there wouldn't have been much of a competition. I thought it best to end it now.

Best wishes,
Padster

A New Aurania

Ladies and gents, I am happy to announce that the proud flag of Aurania has been raised once more! Two years have passed since trains ran on the state railway following the invasion by the Kujuians, and sadly there are no pictures remaining of the old railway: it was utterly trashed and left forgotten under the RS regime which sought to introduce its own transportation methods. For two years the TRS2004 resistance went underground until the day dawned when it could overthrow the RS (basically, until I got bored with RS and realised what I was missing.). That day is now here, and our flag now flies proudly from the Senate:

A new government has now been formed, and one of its first tasks was to approve plans for a new railway to kick start the economy:

Next, a public committee was set up to find out why the Kujuian system failed to live up to expectations. A list of findings has been published:

-Dangers to road users from inactive level crossings.
-Losses to the economy caused by ships that didn't move.
-An inability to build new houses and buildings at a decent rate (a cut and paste feature that never worked properly in two years of use in other words)
-Electrification rendered far too costly (in terms of the time needed to install individual catenary masts)
-Grounded aircraft. (No paths to get them airborne)
-Domestic product reduced to a fraction of that produced in 2007/8. (In other words, not much interactive industry going on.)

(Miscellaneous items also include a ridiculously difficult reskinning process, tedious scenario creation, and the inability to give commands to other drivers 'on the hop'.)

More on Aurania soon.
Best wishes,
Padster

...which I'm very pleased to hear of... Padster. :hehe: The Good old Republic of Aurania! No monarchies allowed! :hehe: No Kujuians will overcome! Nor their descendants rsians will! :hehe:

God how I have missed all your sides Alberte. Welcome back like a long lost son of Aurania, you have returned. And by your other thread you seem to have come upon some rare treats from far away lands. Notably a Madrid metro amongst other gems. Hope you will be with us always. Michael, Miguel or Michele. Whichever suits.:D

That's the good old trainzy friendly spirit, triple MiMiMi. Thank you for missing me. ;) The truth is that I'm there all the time and having a peep here from time to time.

I'm comin' home, I've done my time...

Since last you heard from the great country of Aurania three years ago, much has happened. My computer suffered two crashes (oddly enough Train Simulator 2013 was running on both occasions: not that I am attributing blame of course) and caught a virus which, as things turned out, was terminal. I got ripped off by the guy that "repaired" it, and to cut a long story short, I ended up with a PC with an inadequate power supply which fried the graphics card and possibly the mobo too. So now I am back on an old PC. Knowing it won't run the likes of ts2013, I was stuck. No more trains. Then I remembered old faithful, TRS2004. Apart from its dodgy train drivers it had never given any problems, just solid service. So it is about to be re-instated to its rightful place, and I am about to return to the wonderful world of Trainz!

And what better place to start with than finally getting around to building the Auranian state railway and implementing plans first mooted in 2010? Watch this space!

Best wishes,
Padster
