The Aurania Thread

This weeks cool link

Hello Isaaq, the competition is still open. You need to post one pic of your route first. The Paint Shed thing is in the second round. Good luck!

Only one link this week. Ever wanted to build a one-board railroad but figured that it wouldn't be realistic because it looped back on itself? Check this out:

Tales from Aurania: The Woodsman

I had my first operating session on the route today to check out the signalling, which worked fine. Other things didn't quite go to plan though....

The Woodsman is one of Aurania's less prestigious titled trains. It leaves Corey Timber Products several times a day to take workers and tools up toFallen Pine Forestry Plant by way of the Surqueuelar Railroad, a 14 mile route into the mountains named after a fabled chieftain who used to dance round and round his campfire.

Here we see The Woodsman leave CTP in Pinao:
PadPic48.jpg

Here the train is spotted at The Fork, a place where the Surqueuelar Railroad diverges from the Outanbach Railway, and immediately starts the long climb towards Fallen Pine:
PadPic49.jpg

Here, the train crosses the 27 arches of Twohills Viaduct, so big, we can't get it all in one shot. The viaduct also carries a pedestrian pathway.

Meanwhile, RENFE Mikado no. 141-2103 leaves Fallen Pine with a timber train for the seaport:
PadPic51.jpg

And can be seen here traversing Aurania's wild moorland:

And as 2103 reaches the harbour at Pinao, 2140 can be seen crossing the moors:

2103 arrives at Pinao seaport, but there is a problem. They don't need the timber! Quickly, Dispatch (a.k.a Padster who had left the computer in control while he was getting his hands dirty gardening) managed to arrange for some of the timber to be dropped off at CTP:
PadPic53.jpg

But, even they didn't need it all, so Dispatch arranged for the timber to be shunted into a siding until the next session. However, there was a problem, 2103 had run out of water and was stuck! Help was at hand, for 2140 was returning with the Woodsman. It dropped off its train and backed onto the Mikado:
PadPic54.jpg

Still more trouble ensued. The Mikado would not budge, despite 2140's best efforts, and its train was eventually de-coupled, leaving the stricken engine marooned like a beached whale. With the allotted session time fast coming to a close, 2103 was left where it stood, while 2140 was returned to the shed.

Locomotive Mileages After 1 Session:

141-2103: 79 miles
130-2140: 23 miles

Safety:
Surqueuelar Railroad has: 0 SPADS 0 Derailments 0 Collisions
Outanbach Railway non-operational

More soon.
Best wishes,
Padster

Hi there,

The locos are available here: www.trensim.com. Click on 'Listado' under 'Descargas Trainz'. The steamers are under locomotores de vapor. They are IMHO, the best freeware locos EVER produced for Trainz, and I thank their talented creators profusely.

May I remind all Trainzers that the first round of the Aurania screenshot comp closes at midnight tonight (GMT+1). There is still time to get your entries in. Good luck to all!

Best wishes,
Padster

Aurania Comp 1: First round results info.

The results of the first round of the competition will be revealed tomorrow, as promised. However, because of the low number of entries there will only be three entrants going through to the final round. I hope this will provide a fitting end to the first round, rather than letting everyone through which would have rendered the whole thing pointless.

I hold my hands up and agree with the criticisms made about the sole use of Paint Shed in the final round. It limited the comp. You learn by your mistakes. Next time will be different.

I now declare the first round closed. Results posted tomorrow. Thanks to all the entrants who took part and good luck for the final round!

Best wishes,
Padster

Congratulations chaps, and better luck next time to those who didn't make the final cut.

Zwabberaar, Lesley and Gandalf0444, you are through to the final round in which you must skin the F7 in Paint Shed and include this logo:
Companylogo.jpg

Please do not resize this logo manually: use programs such as IrfanView which allow you to type in numerical values to change the size. This will ensure clarity.

Final Round Closing Date:

Wednesday 14th May

Here are the rules again:

1. One screenshot per entrant of the finished F7 in Surveyor.
2. Locomotive must carry the 'Auranian State Railways' logo
3. The finished F7 must be able to be downloaded by me and be compatible with TRS04.
4. Editing of posts is not allowed. Your original post is final.

Break these rules and it's game over chaps

I declare the second round

OPEN

Good luck, and best wishes,
Padster

Hi Lesley, post a screenshot of your repaint in here first. An e-mail will be fine once the winner has been decided.

Best wishes,
Padster

Great work guys, well done.

Just waiting for Gandalf0444 to post a pic of his re-skin and we can close the comp and start judging.

Good luck, and best wishes,
Padster
