Prize Screenshot Competition

Padster

Returned...
Just to remind you guys one last time that there is now a screenshot competition open. We have one entrant at the moment, so, to give him a fight and stop him winning by default, post your entries ASAP. Check out the info:

TRAINZ HAS TALENT!!
Aurania Competition no. 1

Here's the story: Auranian State Railways recently acquired two old F7 units from the United States to work heavy freight trains in tandem. However, ASR does not have its own paint shop,so we need someone to paint them for us. That's where you come in.

However, first you must get past the knockout round.

Knockout round

Basically, the knockout round is a screenshot comp. We would like you to post one screenshot of your route in the Aurania thread in the Screenshots forum, or alternatively, Aurania Part 1. It can be of anything as long as there is a train in the picture. The pics will be judged on realism, style, artistic perspective and detail: because of this, paint program 'touch-ups' are allowed. Five successful entrants will then go through to the final round.

Click on the link in my signature to take you to the Aurania Thread.

Title your post 'Aurania Comp 1'

Final round

In this round, the five final entrants will paint one F7 loco each in Paint Shed in a colour scheme of their choice, including the Auranian State Railways logo as seen in the Aurania thread into their design, which must be downloadable (or sent via e-mail) and compatible with TRS04. Out of these finalists a winner will be chosen and their loco will be seen in future screenshots of Aurania. They will also win a prize of a boxed, sealed and unused Ship Simulator 2006!

Knockout Round Rules

1. One screenshot per entrant of their own work.
2. Editing of posts is not allowed. Your original post is final.

Final Round Rules

1. One screenshot per entrant of the finished F7 in Surveyor.
2. Locomotive must carry the 'Auranian State Railways' logo
3. The finished F7 must be able to be downloaded by me and be compatible with TRS04.
4. Editing of posts is not allowed. Your original post is final.

Break these rules and it's game over chaps.

Knockout Round Closing Date

Wednesday 30th April

Entries submitted after this date will not be accepted. The five finalists will be chosen on Friday May 2nd, when the second round will commence.

Final Round Closing Date

Wednesday 14th May

Entries submitted after this date will not be accepted. The winner will be announced the following Friday.

Judging

I had planned to have a panel of judges, but it is hard to get several people to agree on the same things, so I will do the judging myself.

I now declare the competition

OPEN!!!
Good Luck to you all!!

Best wishes,
Padster

I am wondering if you realize that the number of entrants will stay very low because of the way you have organized this?

The screenshot round is okay in my opinion. Many people can participate but why would they bother, considering the restrictions of round two?

I am afraid that you will end up with one or two participants.

The thing that really annoys me personally is the number of topics you have already opened for this. Can I perhaps persuade you to stop doing that.

If I wanted your opinion, I would have asked for it. You see that thing at the end of your index finger? It is called a mouse button and you don't have to click it if certain things annoy you, let alone type a post.
Can I perhaps persuade you to stop doing that?

And I really can't understand how there are restrictions in round two. Surely everyone knows how to use Paint Shed by now, even a complete idiot such as myself.

Padster.

Nice one, Casey, you are very welcome. Just follow the rules at the top of this thread and then click on the link in my sig. Good luck!

Best wishes,
Padster

Everyone knows how to use it, but the restriction is the program its self.

Most skins will look the same, just different colours :/

Gangsta.

Thanks AJ for your help. I don't know why people are being so unfriendly. As I have said before, Paint Shed is the only way to guarantee a level playing field, otherwise some people who know how to reskin using other programs would have an unfair advantage. You don't have to take part if you don't wish to. I will be donating the prize, therefore, I have a right to say how the competition is run. Feel free to form an orderly 'I told you so' queue should the idea fail. I at least will have tried.

Best wishes,
Padster

Understandably that is a way to control the competition, but anyone who has upgraded TRS2006 to SP1 has lost the ability to use the program. Im sure there is an even number of people who can use it as those who cant (by use i mean open the program, not be incapable of actually using it). But perhaps you could make the rules to use Gimp, Paintshop, Photoshop, or Fireworks which most people that reskin have. Then you could see lots of variation and many many more people would enter. It would be a true competition of skill, instead of just filling in areas of the paint shed template .

Just my two cents, but its your competition and I respect that. Maybe you could take this as a suggestion for a future competition?

Cheers

Thanks Jeremy for your measured and constructive comments. I will keep them in mind for future competitions. Unfortunately, now that the competition has started I cannot go and change the rules unless all the entrants agree to it, in which case it would be OK because we haven't reached the 'repaint' stage anyway. Let's see what people think first.

Best wishes,
Padster
