Also, out of curiosity, why are so many freeware assets not on the download station? Seems like DS would make it 100x easier to make sure you have everything needed for a route - but only if all of the freeware stuff is in the library to begin with.
Ahhhhh, now, this is an old chestnut that a newbie probably doesn't know about, just yet, so let us enlighten you.
Andy (Dermmy) being the fabulous creator that he is has already given you one reason, the other major reasons are that, particularly for the foreign creators - Chinese, European, Russia, etc, these guys started out making stuff in MSTS, 10 years or so ago, they set up their own websites to hold whatever content they purposely built for their communities, of course, many of them have now moved on to generating content for Trainz and Rail Simulator, however, they decided to include that content on their own websites, setting up new download areas and pages accordingly, instead of putting it on the DLS.
Also, for many of them, English is not their mother tongue and therefore they put their stuff onto their own websites so that folks from their countries could obtain it easily with no language barrier problems, for them to translate all of that content and transfer it across to the Download Station would be much too time consuming and as Dermmy stated, that as soon as it gets on there, NV3 has access to it for their own built in default routes for the future, which is probably not what these creators want their assets to be used for.
There are a lot of posts on the forum from fans who have expressed their concern about having to go 'hunt the kuid', but, it's a good game, :hehe: and if you have any queries regarding missing assets, if you go into the search facility above, just type in the kuid number, for example, 12345:56789 it may give out a post of where this item can be located, if not, then Google search the kuid number, and that may give you some success.
I can heartily recommend many of the routes and content from our Trainzy friends from across Europe, Russia, China, etc, that's why they've now included some of this material in the TS2012 version as default, 'cos it's so damn good......:hehe:
These communities seem to have catered for most versions of Trainz from TRS2004 right up to the present day, however, much of the older content possibly won't work in TS2012 without a lot of tweaking which may not have the desired effect, it's a bit of trial and error, which is a huge shame as much of the content built was absolutely fabulous and certainly worth playing with.
