Importing a track diagram as a track laying guide

For those of you interested, I was successful in getting update 3 to the DLS. I hope its in tomorrows batch.

Ive added trees, some roads, more industries, and fencing.

I found If I use vehicle roads with cars on them it really slows down my screen and makes it choppy. I replaced them all and its smooth again.
Theres been over 100 downloads so far. I dont know if that makes this route a popular one but I'm impressed there are that many. I hope all are enjoying it.

Have Fun.........

Bill

If your previous versions are anything to go by, something to look forward to. Are you following your prototype as far as scenery is concerned or adding what you think it should look like given time and budget?

Well as far as the scenery goes, the actual park is full of mesquite trees and Palo Verde bushes. I cant find any Palo verde and the only mesquite I can find are on the DLS but they are just bushes. Ours are full grown 15' - 25' full trees. So Ive used Oak and Olive trees due to their visual similarities. I'm trying to use items that come with the Trainz package so the route has as few additional assets as possible to make the DL faster.

Thanks for considering the download situation of people with slower connections as well as sourcing from the DLS to make locating they easier for everyone. By placing the same trees at various depths in the ground, you can get a different look without too much work.

I really hate to derail the thread (pun most of the way intended) but I'm glad to see the MLS club layout done in trainz, this route is near and dear to me, I did my eagle project (the Loco for reference Bill) there and have spent many hours out there playing with trains I'm still not a member >.> (20 years old and no money sucks with expensive hobbies) but I love going out there

Been having a look around your latest upload and quite an impressive one it is. One thing though, except for Adobe City, none of the other stations are stations in the sense that a train will recognize them as a place to drive to. You could replace them with passenger enabled stations but if you want to keep the existing buildings, add an invisible station under the visible building. If it's not important to actually load and unload passengers, add a trackmark with the same name on the track in front of each station. Then "drive to" or "drive via" or "navigate to" or "navigate via" commands can be given to the driver and the train will visit each one in turn.

Bump

I've brought this layout into T:ANE and it looks good. One nice feature is the ability to place random objects. By putting a selection of flora in the selection box and letting the program run for a while, I was able to populate the desert with some vegetation without having to place each one by hand. Sure is a time saver.

Hi Martin, I had a go at bringing this in to T:ane as well.
I have one unknown asset <kuid2:45324:253161:1>.
I think its something built in to TS12. I don't have TS12 installed any more.
I went in to the route in T:ane and there are lots of rails missing but the sleepers are there, so I assume that the missing kuid is the rails.
All of the turn tables have no rails leading away from them.
I'm wondering if I can do a "replace asset". (I have never done that before) but I can't work out how to replace it when its not there.
I'll play with this, it looks like it will be fun to work on and play around with.
Cheers,
Paul

The <kuid2:45324:253161:1>. is definitely a built-in asset from TS12 and the asset is by Jointed Rail.

<kuid2:45324:253161:1> : JR MS 3161

This is a Mojave Sub asset.

You can export it by opening the asset for edit. Copy the folder to another place

Run that copy through PEV's Images2TGA and then import it into T:ANE.

You can then revert the original back in TS12.

I hadn't noticed that one, must have already brought it into T:ANE for another route. Just goes to show how even with a relatively new install, everyone's asset set can be different, resulting in different faults and missing dependencies for the same route. Ah the fun in the freedom to have access to hundreds of thousands of assets.

Thanks for the reply to my post John.
I am pretty happy just playing in T:ane, so I wasn't really planning on reinstalling TS12.
I guess I should though because there will continue to be assets from there used in T:ane from time to time such as this case.
Thanks again for the helpful reply.
Cheers,
Paul

I was looking at the Maricopa Live Steamers web site and noticed that the vegetation I placed doesn't really match what is on the site.
Could someone post a list of flora that can be found on the DLS that would be representative of what is actually in the field? I'm not familiar enough with southern Arizona vegetation to make a good guess.

Meanwhile, I'm having fun with Maricopa in T:ANE. I've made a few modifications to make AI easier to control but other than that, it's A-OK.
