How much longer will JR support TS12?

Angry Trainz Nerd
Hello all, I have a question.

With some recent releases (such as the Legacy of the BN route) being T:ANE only, I have began to wonder when (or if) Jointed Rail will drop support for TS12 SP1HF4. Something else I noticed is that most (if not all) screenshots posted by JR staff are taken in T:ANE.

N3V's Life-Cycle Policy (http://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php/Trainz_Life-Cycle_Policy) shows that TS12 support will end this September.

Some content creators (such as CloakedGhost275) have gone T:ANE-only with their newest releases. This raises the question, will JR continue supporting TS12 after its September cutoff date, or do you plan to cut support before then?

Matt

Are T:ANE assets backdatable into 12, 10, 09, 06, 04 ... or does T:ANE ruin them ?

And all 12, 10, 09, 06, 04 assets that are upgraded to T:ANE standards, in the DLS Cleanup, are they unusable in 12, 10, 09, 06, 04 ?

Old assets that are updated to T:ANE standards cannot be used in older versions. Why do you think they could be? It's not a problem though.

Not a problem at all ... Unless T:ANE totally bombs out like a big fat dud ... then T:ANE totally screws everybody

Well, no. People carry on using the old assets and telling everybody we told you T:ANE was going to bomb. You really don't understand how Trainz assets work do you?

The moment JR stops supporting TS12 will be a sad day. At least they understand their customers unlike the clowns at N3V...

No. The rules are that
1. The asset version must be incremented. This means that the existing asset remains available for download and use in whatever version it currently works with.
2. The asset must work at the build number it is upgraded to. In most cases this is 3.5, so that means it is useable in 12 and T:ANE. In a very few cases it cannot be made to work in both 12 and T:ANE, or it already works OK in 12, so it is upgraded to 4.2 and therefore is only available for T:ANE.

So what you are telling me is that if the entire DLS was upgraded to T:ANE trainz-build numerals ... There is no turning back ... and every asset would be broken in 12, 10, 09, 06, 04 ?

This probably won't happen, but I wonder if N3V will pull a Microsoft, realize that most of the Trainz fanbase still prefers TS12, and postpone the cutoff?

I don't know who you are responding to, but what I am telling you is exactly the opposite.

If every asset on the DLS was upgraded with a new version number and build number, then the existing assets on the DLS that work with versions 04 through 12 would be completely unaffected.

The main reason I am still with TS12 is that there's so much stuff I've downloaded and installed and fixed for TS12 that it would take forever to get everything into T:ANE and working properly... For example, the Mojave Sub takes a ton of work to get working in T:ANE.

I believe that the question that should be asked is will NV3 always fully support TS 12 because as things stand at the moment I will not be using it to creat or add to be existing route which I have been working on for years.

N3V will end support for TS12 this September. That means no new updates will be provided, you won't get tech support from N3V, no new content for TS12 will be allowed on the DLS, and you will have to have a First Class Ticket to be able to use the DLS at all. You will still be able to use the game itself, just without the aforementioned features.

As I mentioned before, if there is still enough demand for it, N3V may extend support just a little longer, but it's not likely.

That will be fine if all of TS12 content including SnC has been moved ans all other items are usable in Tane.
