GMax and 3DSMax (And any other modeling program) screenies/renders

Wellllll...

Just because I have to wait for the next batch of drawings for the Litra H2 there is absolutely no reason for laying idly by. This is the non-smoking compartment of a 1939 DSB Litra CL commuter wagon. Only some curtains missing before it is time for texture baking.

It will be released with petrama decides to release it.

Its doesnt really matter though, since you have no registered legal version of trainz.

Render in Blender 3D. Redesigned geometry model. It is planned to upgrade the old model for Trainz.

Hey Vold,

the texture is still breath taking!
But I'm curious, what have you been changing since the last update?
Will you use bumpmaps with alpha channel for detailed specular?

Cheers

Måtte korrigere en del farver, men nu er den ved at være tæt på. Mangler stadig en bunke småting, men de kommer. And for the benefit of the non-danish speakers: Finally by using Facebook I managed to get my grubby litle hands on a colour photograph depicting the inside of one of these coaches. I was not far off the mark it turned out, but there is always something...

Wow - that ex BR-132 Looks very great!!!
I wish I would have such experiences in using Blender as well. I am still using Gmax :-)

Yes, plan to use normalmaps with alpha channel for detailed specular.
Also redesigned geometry, this video can see

I believe that it is worth spending a few weeks to get used to Blender3D, the result will please you.

Hello again,

yes, I guess I would love the blender results. Unfortunately it is quite hard for me to explore such software stuff just for my own. I was looking for tutor-classes sometimes offered by some schools but did not find any around my hometown.

Therefore I have two questions:

  • Do you know some links to online tutorials for beginners (also showing how to export data to name.im files for trainz)?
  • Is there any chance to import gmax-source-files into Blender?

Thanks in advance.

Paul Hobbs has made some good tutorials for Blender from start to finish. They can be found HERE.

For importing the Gmax files, you would have to first import it into 3DS Max, then save it as a .max file, then import it into blender. The whole process can be found at these links: GMAX to 3DS Max - 3DS Max to Blender

1. There are books on google called Blender for Dummies. TEH members used this to start out. Its free to download.

2. There is a script for gmax called gmax2obj or something similar. Just export your models via .obj using that macro script and notepad then import to blender via .obj format

There is a lot of content (e.g. series of houses and buildings) I will probably continue using gmax for the moment. And may be it will never be necessary to move these mesh files from gmax to blender. But for the future work at locos and trainz cars it seems to me that blender could be the better choice :-)
And there are some loco and trainz car meshes I would like to take over :-)
Again - thank you for your help.
