Clear Lake Logging Classic Primer

UPDATE: Nothing new creation-wise since 19 DEC. The route is in beta test now from various kind souls. I have taken somewhat of a Trainz hiatus however due to real model railroading projects. Am planning to get back to work on this project next week. Updates to follow. Thanks to all for hanging in there.

Oh goody. I can't wait to get my hands on this layout when it's available :mop::udrool::mop:. I have not used Trainz (and especially Trainz logging stuff) at all recently myself, but the Clear Lake V3 might just be the thing to get me back into the Trainz spirit ;). Nice going Rich, it looks beautiful.

Regards.

Hopefully this will still be TRS04/06 compatible. I have '09 as well, but I dread re-installing it due to the abysmal patching time and the fact that my favorite engines don't work in cab mode without some major tweaking.

Keep up the good work,
[CKT]

hwtidd, He dosen't even have TRS2010.

Slugsmasher, Is there any more updates to this wonderful logging/mining railroad? Some screenshots would be awsome!:) And one more thing how many baseboards does this route take up? (Just wondering, it seems alot to fit on one baseboard, like all your other ones you have released except the Sandy River route.)

Thanks,

Ethan

Sorry no updates, I'm on my annual Trainz sabbatical during mountain bike and kayak season.

The route is three baseboards and as far as screenshots there are plenty in this thread that cover nearly every area of the route. Thanks for your continued interest.

Three years of vaporware!!!

This month marks the three year (or is that four???) anniversary of this thread and no I'm not finished with the route yet. In fact, I haven't touched it since last January 2010. A few beta testers have tried it out and provided some good feedback. The route is in reality near completion but it's that last 10% that seems to be the hardest. I find it hard to stay motivated with all the changes that have happened to Trainz in the last 5 years. I have probably 200 pieces of content that would need to be updated in order for this route to work in 2009 and up. Not fun. I have probably forgot more than most people know about content creation so the task is daunting to say the least.

Anyway, here are some random screenshots I took today of nothing in particular. If you really want to see this route completed, I will need lots of encouragement as there are still several custom content items to make and then there is all the session work...ugg. Thanks for all the support and patience.

Hi Slugsmasher
First, happy New Year to you. Would this year be the new Clear Lake one.

As a European your map has always been for me the wild wild west dream come through:)

I spent hours gathering logs at camps and bring them back to the dump. I even modified your map adding some portals to have passing trough operation.

When I read that you were working on an update of your map I subscribed to this thread in order to follow your progress. What I see today is amazing and beyond my expectations. You are so closed, please don’t give up.

Thierry

I say go go go...
Not only is it a cool route, but your model creations are also great. I still get the narrow gauge bug from time to time, and everything you have made really comes in handy.

I hope that is somewhat encouraging.

Well, when the trainz bug hit around five years ago with trs2006, I of course first explored the build in routes and ended up doing most of my time in Northbay County. Soon I started to look around for more narrow gauge routes and one of the first downloaded ones was your Clear Lake v.2 that notably stood out in its eye for detail and decoration of the landscape. Needles to say I spend hours virtually logging, chopping, sawing and shunting along its tracks. :hehe:

So when you started this thread three years ago I immediately, as Thierry, subscribed to follow your progress in creating a newer version of this little loggers heaven. The shots you've provided over the years do promise another atmospheric highlight of what we now see as a past times romantic view of what would have been a quite harsh industry at the time.

<encouragement mode ON>
I sincerely hope you'll bite the bullit to take that ten percent to be done still in your stride and make our narrow gauge enthousiasts day.
<encouragement mode OFF>

Happy New Year from Amsterdam,

Jan

I greatly enjoyed the first versions of this route. Something about shays always brings a smile to my face.

<whine on>
So is it in the plan to update this to 2009 standards? It would be unfortunate for those of us that don't have 2009 or up to lose such a wonderful route
<whine off>

Hang in there man

Hey Slug --

I bought TS2004 soon after it was released and one of the first routes I downloaded was your Clear Lake. From time to time I fire up '04 and find that Clear Lake still has the appeal and charm that I remember when I first discovered it.

So hang in there man. There are a goodly number of us who are looking forward to the next iteration of this great route.

Phil

Rich

I hear you there. I have a lot of unfinished stuff and I too have had a hard time getting motivated to work and finish them.

The screenshots look great. The old buildings are superpurb. Keep up the good work and Happy New Year

Regards
Shane

PM me when you have a minute. I have a few old builings maybe you could use and an animated working 1880s saw mill (about 90% complete) you might be interested in.

Great layout, Rich!

Hello everyone, and great work, Rich! :D

I have not been active in Trainz much at all (and especially these forums) for many moons, but there is a possibility that that could change very soon as I plan on a project I have thought up. ;)

I would bet that the session work would be a bit tedious, but I speak as one who is lazy to the point of not even wanting to get around to taking pictures of my collection and posting it up on the Antiquesockets.com forums, which is where I spend a fair amount of time lurking these days, and who certainly has a huge backlog of Trainz content that needs updating/finishing and releasing (but not on the DLS anymore, now that Auran has outlawed us devoted TRS2004 users off of there, likely partially because they want us to upgrade to the newest version of Trainz, but they ain't gonna eat my money! :hehe:). ;) :hehe:

I would suggest that you release the layout before you start bashing your head against the task of making sessions, as some of us (such as I) would probably like to make our own sessions, just to be able to enjoy your wonderful layout, ;) as well as the fact that your layout is a gold mine just because of the great high-quality scenery items and other assets that it uses, as those items would be invaluable to some layout-builders (like me for some of my "personal" layouts :hehe:.

Anyway, keep up the great work Rich, and I and many others are really looking forward to getting our hand on your masterpiece! ;)

Regards.

Operations are alive and well on the Clear Lake Logging route. Been a little bit since an update. The weather is turning crappy now so time to hibernate and hit some Trainz action.

Not done yet but certainly a lot closer to done than not done if that helps. Every day is one day closer to completion.

Can I kindly ask how your progress on this shay is coming.
I can wait for it.

And I have been thinking about bumping up this thread myself. :D :p ;)

I would like to know how the Clear Lake V3 layout is coming along, Rich. I am still waiting for it! :udrool: :D ;)

Thanks and regards.
