Australian screenshots

I will get these assets together tomorrow but the route which is Sydney to Gosford is not yet complete
Central Picture, all ramps and steps lead to underground areas

The lighting took me a few hours to make today, the Museum and ST James signs are builtin to the wall splines and the stairs are fixed sections matching the wall splines

This is not anywhere near as pretty as the very polished work I see here.... but this is the Bibra Lake Substation, and much of todays efforts.

Long way to go before it looks the part I guess!

Good start bluey. I suggest setting the track splines heights and then smoothening the track. That track looks bumpier than the Melbourne-Sydney line

Wonderful work. You blow me away with this fine detail mate. I can't wait to see what other 'goodies' you've got.

Cheers,
Roy

Im working on it. That track has a 20% grade at one point... its raw DEM for the most part, and things like tunnels and bridges are getting added. Ive read that smoothing will mess up the DEM elevations, and that I should tidy it up first along the whole line before smoothing. So thats about 20 miles of dual track to finesse, and several yards. Cant just easily flatten those, as they are all on a slope. Only track Ive seen bumpier is the abandoned tracks in the post apocalyptic game, Fallout New Vegas.

From my point of view there just as tall as me Pete, what is it your trying to say here leave us midgets alone Pete, only joking Pete hope you are well buddy
I think maybe the Green colouring on the wall might be a bit high which might make them look small on some computers

For a little relaxation, I took the V S301 out for a ride on Graemes 'Goulburn - Murray Lines' layout today. Here's a couple of screenshots I took. A great route - thanks Graeme.
Cheers,
Roy

G'day everyone. Great news Roy, since you completed the line before them they should let you on for free :D. I plan on having a good look around your new Sydney route tonight.
Great screenshots lately everyone! Oxford to Queens is looking awesome in TANE as does Cooma - Bombala. Can't wait to try them both out.

I thought Y175 was geared to run at 75mph?
So long ago, I forget. And its been scrapped, too, I think?
Just checked vicsig, doesn't say about it being the comissioners locomotive.
Pity some things get overlooked ....

Y175 was the commisioners engine from the day it was first run until the commisioners were sacked and a board of management took over. Y175 was at Traralgon for quite a while after that and never had the pulling power of other Y's. I understand it had T class gearing hence 60mph/100kmh ability. Fastest was the L class which would do over 110 mph, but was limited to 75. That trip was Traralgon to Morwell in 6 minutes, the loco had a broken speed recorder and the driver wanted to see what it could do. We had to relieve a breakdown on the Gippslander. One of the scarier rides I had as a fireman.
cheers

Hi Roy, glad you're enjoying the route. It looks like you are running the original route. V2 has the Katamatite branch and HD textures. Your Sydney route is awesome, but I think I will need a better PC to get the most out of it. My... laptop... doesnt... like... procedural... track. Loads track toooo sloooowly. :p
cheers

Is there a significant difference performance wise then, between the proc track and the old stuff? Ive thus far been using proc track for my route in progress...

There is. BUT. I suggest using it anyway :p It's the way forward. If it's detrimental for people's computers, they can change it to suit their needs. (One of the greatest features of Trainz IMO)

Also, where'd ya get the DEM of Perth from? I've always loved that city and how well planned it is. I reckon I could use the DEM to make a nice fictional US Route :hehe:

Well, you can download elevation data for the whole country from the geoscience australia portal, ELVIS. The DEM-S is IIRC, 1/3rd arcsec data. For Perth however, and most of the country near the coast, there exists LiDAR data at 5m resolution.

You can place download orders here: http://www.ga.gov.au/elvis/

The system will process the order automatically, and email you a download link. No registration or fee, and no human intervention required unlike the old portal.

I find most orders are done in about 5 minutes or less. Only hitch is to make sure you request the right coordinate format for TransDEM to be able to interpret - Ive found MGA94/GDA94 works well, provided you tell TransDEM its WGS84.

You are joking, right?

Nope, not at all :p Only in terms of the CBD is Melbourne better laid out than Perth. And your rail lines actually run along the freeway :udrool:
