So its not that different to the last one, but the thread has gone too many posts without pics :P

Nope, not at all :p Only in terms of the CBD is Melbourne better laid out than Perth. And your rail lines actually run along the freeway :udrool:

I will concede that two of our metro lines do run along the freeway.... but this does not make Perth well laid out. Only have to look at the freight line to the north quay rail terminal and wonder what they were thinking when they laid the track... or why Forrestfield has a long section of single track throughline... Still, I guess rail wise Perth is not TOO bad. Its all the other civil planning (or lack thereof) that has been the issue.

Well, you can download elevation data for the whole country from the geoscience australia portal, ELVIS. The DEM-S is IIRC, 1/3rd arcsec data. For Perth however, and most of the country near the coast, there exists LiDAR data at 5m resolution.

You can place download orders here: http://www.ga.gov.au/elvis/

The system will process the order automatically, and email you a download link. No registration or fee, and no human intervention required unlike the old portal.

I find most orders are done in about 5 minutes or less. Only hitch is to make sure you request the right coordinate format for TransDEM to be able to interpret - Ive found MGA94/GDA94 works well, provided you tell TransDEM its WGS84.
Interesting to know i use to rely on ASTERGDEM but the site closed for what ever reason, Thanks for the link.
Cheers Mick.

Hi Roy, glad you're enjoying the route. It looks like you are running the original route. V2 has the Katamatite branch and HD textures. Your Sydney route is awesome, but I think I will need a better PC to get the most out of it. My... laptop... doesnt... like... procedural... track. Loads track toooo sloooowly. :p
cheers
Graeme

Maybe I was running V1, so I'd better look for the upgrade, mate.

I know what you mean about the procedural track on my route,... well it's yours now Graeme and you are welcome to swap the track over as you choose.
In fact I've actually cloned my layout and I'm back-dating the era to 1950. So I immediately changed the track and removed catenary from certain parts, which were not electrified at the time. Hopefully, I should be running a few Red Rattlers, Rail Motors and some Steamers that have been brought out of retirement for the occasion.
Cheers,
Roy

Start of the North Quay Rail Terminal at the Inner Harbor, Fremantle.

It is supposed to be a little more impressive than that, but for some reason objects are only being drawn inside of 1km, so several cranes and ships are just outside the draw distance in that shot. :/

I cant seem to find the spot to change that setting, either.

Little closer, we can see the next set of cranes.

Great route Graeme, cheers,

Have a Squiz at Zec's ALX wagons Roy: the motorail MBKs that Dave (bearcat) did are only used on the southern Aurora and other pass trains :p

Thanks mate, I was aware of that. I'd previously had two MBKs coupled to a Southern Aurora consist earlier. I generally use long car carriers to watch for uneven track levels on test runs and just happened to take those shots.
Cheers,
Roy

Go to Main Menu / Settings / then first adjustment in Video Settings

Is there an online resource detailing different rolling stock used in Australia? Its easy enough to search for ALX wagons, for instance... but most of the time, Im not sure what I should be searching for.

G'day everyone, lots of great shots again, keep them coming.
Chiltern is almost complete and The Rock is coming along slowly, but still not quite happy with it.

Late afternoon in Chiltern sees X45 approaching the platform.
