Sydney Central & City Circle

ROUTE: SYDNEY CENTRAL & CITY CIRCLE V.1

I've gone about as far as I can go with this layout, so it's time to make it available for any Trainzers who are interested in the Sydney CBD area. To get your personal route, you will need to PM me with your contact email address. (Please DO NOT quote your email address on this Forum.)

Please Note:
My route was created in T:ANE CE SP1 and may not work in TS12 or any earlier Trainz versions.

All the City Circle stations have been scratch-built from miscellaneous assets found on the DLS. The route has been limited to the Sydney CBD but does include Milsons Point and North Sydney stations. The track layout in and around Central Station is not historically accurate and has been modified to accommodate the models used.

I have designed the route to allow for expansion and so, you are welcome to use the route personally, modify, extend or change it, but are not permitted to upload same to the DLS at any later date without seeking permission from me. This is due to copyright on various assets used. If you do improve on it, kindly send me a copy.

You will find that the Session includes some minor additions, which may not appear on the route. This was to allow for the use of the route for a by-gone era. (Originally I started the layout as a diorama and purely for screenshots or videos, but I got carried away, so now it is fully functional)

I also take this opportunity to give credit and thanks to all the creators of the many assets which I used to bring my route to this point in time, but in particular, to Steve123 who provided the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Central Station models. Steve gave me inspiration and has given permission for me to include the cdp's for these particular files.

Private Models used:
Central Station, Sydney Harbour Bridge and NSW Tunnels provided by steve123
Sydney Opera House provided by H222
NSWGR Rolling-stock: Created by davido; memeboy; vinnybarb; nswgr_46class. WARNING: Some of these items are Payware, so if you have not purchased said items, then it will be necessary to make changes to the rolling-stock located under 'Central Portal Control' to your particular choice.

Hey Ozzmo, Where did you get that VR 'B' Class?

Hi UncleBuck. Not sure who the original creator was but I got it from victrainz storage site listed under JD/. There is a few V/line items as well and I think they may have been re-textured or weathered by Jamie (H222). No doubt he will be able to tell us.
Cheers,
Baz

If you look carefully at your VR B class screenshot you will see that all the waiting cars appear to have been shifted sideways away from the camera. Is this an optical effect or is the error in the screenshot process. If you are using T:ane then it would be worthwhile reporting this as a bug.

Apart from that, which is not your error, a lovely evocative scene. Typical Victorian country scene.

Hi Peter, thank you for the compliment and you have a very good eye. I hadn't noticed that until you brought it to my attention. I'll try some other shots and see what the outcome is. It might even be a height issue which will give you that optical effect. If not i'll report it, as the shot was taken in T:ane. Thanks mate.
Cheers,
Baz.

Very pretty! Can I ask what asset that is for the dual gauge? Is that SG/BG or NG/SG? Im looking for a DG track to use for Perth...

EDIT: also somewhat related, does anyone here know where the GSR provisioning is in Kewdale for the Indian Pacific?

It's S301's track kit. BG/SG I'm afraid. No 3'6 here :p

As for Kewdale, I have no idea. Try having a stalk on google Earth (make sure you fly over your ex's house first)

Cheers. Ive spent a fair bit of time on GE looking at Kewdale, probably around 30 or 40 hours in the last couple years - about 10 to 15 of it in the last couple weeks. Problem is GE shows the track layout quite well, but not so much identifying specific areas. Found some maps that clearly explain most of the buildings in the yard... but none of them are identified as being specifically GSR. So I guess they probably share with someone else, mebbe the TransPerth provisioning for the Prospector, near the BP Depot. Was hoping someone might be able to confirm/deny that.

Guess Ill have to keep hunting around for appropriate DG or make my own. Does that use an offset invisible track spline for the SG portion?

Also, road bridges. Perth uses concrete sloped embankments for earthworks to support bridges. All the closest ones Ive found so far on the DLS have been sheer vertical walls - more convenient, less prototypical. Anything to recommend?

Im hoping that one day Ill be able to post screenshots that look nearly as good as the ones I see here.

Sadly the 3-rail 3'6"/4'8.5" dual gauge track we have here in WA doesn't seem to exist in Trainz - the only dual narrow/standard gauge track I've seen on the DLS is actually 4-rail track that is known as 'gauntlet track' which Westrail only used in a few very specific places. So other than overlaying standard and narrow gauge track there isn't really an alternative to the gauntlet track (for my Transperth suburban route I just went with the gauntlet track for now to represent the dual guage Midland line, the freight line under the Armadale line at Kenwick and the short section of the Fremantle line across the Swan River between Fremantle and Leighton).

Bridges I used whatever I could find that were reasonably close to prototype - one thing about Trainz I learned a long time ago was if you're not really adept at 3D modelling like I am sadly if you're into a more obscure or less-popular prototype (like WA rail) then you have to be more open to substituting things that are close enough to the prototype - luckily I'm not as much as a rivet counter as I used to be so as long as it looks the part then that's what matters to me. :D

Either way, good luck with your route! (I think I might have a sort-of schematic diagram for Kewdale, but it's around cira 2002 and probably is no longer relevant - not to mention it's very small, as it was part of a promotional ARG image showing their various yards and depots in WA, including Forrestfield and Kewdale. But if it can help you out I'll be happy to email it to you.). :)

Some progress on our XPT.

Fun fact, when XBR2157 was an XD sitting car, it was the car Lady Diana traveled in Gosford to Sydney.

Buffet car 2157. This car was originally an XD sitting car and was converted to a buffet car. They simply blanked out the required windows, the outside remained the same otherwise.

Work on the undercarrriage and sitting on new ComEng bogies.

Some work on the vents.

Some work on the nose.

Nice screenshots there Aaron & looks like a lot of work has been put into it you got any idea of a ETA when the New XPT will be released ..??

Looks like the XPT is coming along well, the weathering is a nice touch.
Looking forward to driving Roy's new route, should be a beauty.
Great shots Jamie and Patchy.
Just a few from me while upgrading the merged up eastern half of the route.

Looking good Graeme and Patchy, nice one guys.
Just a couple from me. The cars are sitting ok in the photo taken from a different angle, so maybe the issue was just the way the shot was taken.
Take care all, cheers,
Baz.

Sorry mate but I have to do the cliche thing and say, "no there is a lot of work still to do". Memeboy and I work on it when we have spare time but i can say it will be WELL worth the wait. :)

Thanks Graeme, I think we will have a clean version as well. The route is looking great mate!
