Sao Miguel Island Portugal / Rodnye Prostory - SND / Y Tube Selections
Good Friday Morning All,
Been a busy week, weather has been Cold, but with Rains this set the Fruit on Trees this year, and things should be tasty in that respect. Colder the Winter the better tasting Fruit you'll have!
Now to Trainz, been busy fooling around with Sao Miguel DEM Route, have lots to discuss and share on this interesting DEM Rte. in upcoming posts.
Sao Miguel Island Dem Rte....Adding a Tunnel here, overhead view......Grade is high, so we had to cut some short tunnels here and there to make it work.
Using Wire Mode here to set my Grade more level, from 6% to 3.5%......
Looking again in Wire Mode, we have a nice transition in Grade from lower to higher Elevation......
Rodnye Prostory (Russian) below nice Electrification Assets shown.....Realistic
I like this older Route it is helping to learn about International Electrified Lines.....Very interesting to see how different it is among world wide RR's
Old Cars and Locos setting on the side, they do work......When needed.
One Red Light to the Rear? Not sure if other one is burned out....Need to open this Asset and inspect for Corona Missing or failure of some sort?
Pretty Cool inside this Cab. Lots of nice detail......Look at all the Switches to make this baby run.......!
Green Signal Lights shows upcoming Signals on Rails, and it does Work too!
Look out! Red Light coming up. prepare to stop short of the Signal.......!!!
This Route has Water Ocean areas very nice Route.........Fun to run on......
Blues Y Tube Pics of the week:Little of this and that........

Chesapeake and Ohio 2-6-6-2 #1309 is the largest operating steam locomotive on the East Coast of the USA. Several dozen patrons and I spent a somewhat chilly February 2023 day with Lerro Photography at the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, in Cumberland, MD, photographing the locomotive pulling a replicated "coal drag" up the grade from Cumberland to Frostburg, MD.

A Failed Defect Detector and the Train Derailment at East Palestine
Defect Detector had a bad day and gave multiple hot axle alerts.
Hear the defect messages and find out why the defect detector went haywire.
Also will give you my thoughts on the horrible Norfolk Southern train
derailment at East Palestine, Ohio. It is so very sad to see events
like this happen. It is not good for the community nor for the railroad
industry.

See how Thermite Field Welding is done on a railroad from start to finish.
Today's work is called a field weld (because it's being done in the field) and
when they set the weld off that is called shooting the weld.

VINTAGE ALCO RSD1 (OERM 1956) Startup and MORE at the Southern California Railway Museum
https://youtu.be/whFm0JiYM04
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to visit the Southern California Railway Museum (formerly the Orange Empire Railway Museum). Originally, interurban car PE 418 was supposed to run, but it was damaged in an unspecified accident weeks before and was still being repaired. The museum substituted it with OERM 1956, an ALCO RSD-1 from the early 1940s. See a 1939 EMC SW1 in action, a snapshot of Southern California transit history, and more! Watch the video to learn more about these pieces of living railroad history!
A bit more on the intriguing history of the ALCO RSD-1:
OERM 1956 was originally built in April of 1941 as an RS-1 for the Tennessee Coal and Iron Railroad Co. (TCI 601), but was never delivered in its intended configuration. It was the beginning of WWII and the U.S. was looking to aid the USSR in their battle to fend off Nazi Germany by strengthening supply chains to the Eastern Front. In other words, the U.S. was going to supply additional locomotives to help transport goods to and from the USSR. The U.S. Army Transportation Corps requisitioned the first 13 ALCO RS-1's ever built (this one included) and rebuilt them as RSD-1's by 1942. This meant swapping 2-axle trucks for 3-axle ones with better weight distribution and higher tractive effort for service on poorly maintained track through rugged terrain. Additionally, the cab walls were sloped inwards so the locomotives would fit through tighter European clearances.

St Croix Valley Railroad with SD45 Flair and a GP9 -Leslie RS5T horn- SCXY
eb 13, 2023
#diesel #train #railway The Saint Croix Valley Railroad is a short line in Minnesota, known for having its locomotives painted in Northern Pacific inspired colors, and running on the former NP main. In the past few years things have changed due to losing a key customer, and a drop in the sand business. Most of the moves are tied to propane and car storage, while serving a handful of customers. In this video, we'll chase a train south of Hinckley, following the line south to Rush City, and eventually to North Branch. Along the way, the drone will give us a unique views of the railroad, in places such as Mission Creek and Harris. The lead unit, 1326, has a VERY nice Leslie RS5T horn, which we'll hear a lot in this video. The latter half has their GP9 working, and making some nice noise as it pulls a mile long train to the end of the line.
Ok Folks, that's a wrap for today....Hope you enjoy.....
