Good Thursday Night all,
Been an interesting week, found some more shoddy Roofing on the house, it just defies logic how people I trusted either are lazy, uncaring, or like to take Short cuts to finish a job. Fortunately for me, other than being older and slower these days, I can effect the appropriate remediation repairs.
Tonight Pics will be a little of this n that.
Windows performed another update after the Features update 2 weeks ago. Look on my Programs here, what occurred on Updates is shown by 10-12-22 changes.
This Route if I recall is Freelance NG30, it has beautiful colors, I really like how they are colored.
This one has bit of a Steeple pointy peak. just need to round it off a little for my tastes.
One issue here, Bridge is not tall enough for deep Canon here, solution? Raise the bottom enough to touch the Bridge...And all is better visually.
Beautiful lat afternoon Sunset.
Long string of cars headed up the Gorge, with 2 Helpers on rear. Look across the back mountain, you can see the Smoke Trail in back.
It's a long way down from up here, Hope we never derail.
Pretty grade here, I think 5% maybe. maybe later will have MOW have a look and see if we change some elevations here and there? Or just leave things as they are.....Diesel Locomotives are on the horizon.

Today, these early 20th century artifacts are proudly displayed at the Museum, representing the railroad’s role in helping to transport Colorado’s coal, feed its steel blast furnaces, and build early natural gas pipelines serving the Southwest.

It connected with the Midland Terminal which served the legendary Cripple Creek mining district. Hundreds of historic photos enliven the history of both railroads. The video climaxes with motion pictures of the Midland Terminal—about 3 minutes of a 1930's passenger train, and 13 full-color minutes of ore and passenger trains in 1948-49. Listen to interviews with the crew on the very last train run by the railroad. Sadly, watch motion pictures of the scrapper lifting the rails.

Good Thursday Night All,
My gosh it has been a busy week for us, we are having our Pool, over 50 yr old pipes, equipment and new plaster installed. Waited a 15 years to do this. I can say one thing it isn't Cheap, and with rising prices for Construction and everything else, we had to get this done.
Only hard thing, is all the new building codes, like Pool Alarms everywhere including Floating/or attached Pool Side Alarm if Small Child or Baby were to fall in. Of course we'll not complain, it is a good security net to keep little ones safe from potential drowning. As well, we had to put Smoke and CO2 Alarms all over the house too.
Hopefully in another Month, our house will be back to normal, after hosing down all the Construction Dust, the very good thing, we have excellent contractors doing the Job.
Over to trainz, been working on Freelance NG Route. Been working on fixing the Ground under too short Trestle Bridges Etc.
Picture of Route as it looks now, I have two other NG Routes below that will be added with connecting tiles once I finish the Main Route on Top.

Returning Empty Ore Cars back to Work location
Something when your Train is so long, you can see the end of it! Mind our Speed and Braking, don't won't a runaway on these Steep Gorges.
Our destination is Gravel and Cement Yards here for fill up. Then things get interesting, and we take it slow and careful downhill with Ore/Gravel/Sand Loads.All these areas are far from complete, WIP.
Looking across the empty space here, I putting up some Background Boards to hide the open Tile less area. And with the right style Boards it gives a great finishing touch. I have several laid out, so I can view them at a distance to see which looks the best.
I need to add some more Cactus and other high desert Flora in all over the place. But that is for another day. Am also thinking of adding some Semaphore Signals spaced out for basic traffic control where there is Single Mainline operations. No Cornfield Meets, it could be Deadly in these areas. At the moment we are using Paper Schedules and Times. Shoot, I just thought about it, we don't even have Telegraph Poles anywhere....I think we are in big trouble.

In mid-2018, Progressive Rail Inc. reached an agreement with the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission to serve as the freight carrier on the Santa Cruz Branch Line. PGR formed the St. Paul & Pacific. The new entity was confined to switching in Watsonville. Citing losses, PGR handed daily operations over to the Santa Cruz, Big Trees & Pacific Railway in spring 2021.
The following video clips were filmed in March 2021, featuring the St. Paul & Pacific bringing an empty center beam from Big Creek Lumber to the Union Pacific interchange at Watsonville Jct.

Maybe those 2 cars that sped out in front of the Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad freight train made this SD40 (ELS 503) slow down and fail the first time, the second time they just couldn't get the speed up to climb that steep grade here in northern Wisconsin. They had to disconnect from the train and go ahead sanding the rails before trying again.

2 Loud Mid Train Locomotives Shoving Steel Coil Cars & Green Heritage Unit Roars By On Fast Freight! CSX and Norfolk Southern trains in the sun. Trains with DPU's and maintenance of way equipment on the CSX & Norfolk Southern main lines in Walton, Kentucky. One railroad crossing has gates, bells and flashing lights while the other crossing on the same road only has cross bucks. The Norfolk Southern track gets about twice as many trains as the CSX track and that is probably why it has the electrical units. I was between both crossings and got two CSX trains and one NS train in a little over 3 hours. That includes my stop at the last railroad crossing in Florence, Kentucky where a high rail truck and a couple of maintenance of way equipment units passed by.

The days are getting shorter, the temps are getting colder, and with winter around the corner fall colors are slowly giving way to bare trees. On this overcast and cold mid-October morning, the Arcade & Attica Railroad pulled out two of their GE center cabs for the revenue freight run from Arcade, NY to North Java, where they would drop the five hoppers and two tankers at the Reisdorf Brothers feed mill located at the end of the line!

On July 16th, 2017 my Dad and I took a cab ride in the only operating steam locomotive in New York State. The Arcade & Attica RR #18. Engine #18 is a 2-8-0 built in 1920 by the American Locomotive Works. Enjoy the sights and sounds of this beautiful machine as we travel through the hills of Western New York. It was truly an experience I will always remember with my Father. Thanks to everyone who made it a possibility for us to do this!

Union Pacific Railroad detour on the normally out-of-service ex-M&I Mosher Branch in Missouri, 2017 https://youtu.be/WyD1lPC6ST0
In May 2017, major flooding in Missouri caused BNSF Railway to shut down its River Subdivision between St. Louis and Memphis. Normally, at Ste. Genevieve, MO, Union Pacific's local moves traffic for its customer, Mississippi Lime, using trackage rights over the BNSF River Sub from here on north for approximately 10 miles to access its own line in Crystal City, MO. At Crystal City, the lime cars are then forwarded on to another UP local (LSE-57) which takes them to St. Louis over UP's De Soto Sub.
However, when the BN River Sub closes due to flooding, derailments, or other calamities, Union Pacific has to re-open the normally out-of-service Mosher Branch of the former Missouri & Illinois (M&I) Railway between Ste. Genevieve and Derby Jct. in Park Hills, MO, in order for Mississippi Lime's traffic to access the De Soto Sub. At Derby, the line joins in with a regularly-used UP branch to reach the De Soto Sub main line at Bismarck.
OK Folks, another several days of Construction going on, early day tomorrow.

In May 2017, major flooding in Missouri caused BNSF Railway to shut down its River Subdivision between St. Louis and Memphis. Normally, at Ste. Genevieve, MO, Union Pacific's local moves traffic for its customer, Mississippi Lime, using trackage rights over the BNSF River Sub from here on north for approximately 10 miles to access its own line in Crystal City, MO. At Crystal City, the lime cars are then forwarded on to another UP local (LSE-57) which takes them to St. Louis over UP's De Soto Sub.
However, when the BN River Sub closes due to flooding, derailments, or other calamities, Union Pacific has to re-open the normally out-of-service Mosher Branch of the former Missouri & Illinois (M&I) Railway between Ste. Genevieve and Derby Jct. in Park Hills, MO, in order for Mississippi Lime's traffic to access the De Soto Sub. At Derby, the line joins in with a regularly-used UP branch to reach the De Soto Sub main line at Bismarck.

Authors Notes:This route is based on the UK narrow gauge Lynton & Barnstaple railway. The actual railway closed in 1935, although a small section was reopened in the early 2000's.
Whilst there may be some scenes on this railway that represent some of the original route, I have deliberately used alternative names to avoid making it an exact copy.
This railway is based in the late 1960's, there is a main line connection at Barnstaple North (AI trains run in addition to a couple kept off scene), but other than that the railway is self contained.
It is assumed that the railway kept operating after 1935 and in recent years BR has repainted all the stock in heritage livery. Part of the original line in 1935 ended up covered by a reservoir, hence the very large lake mid-way-ish with the railway this time running on viaducts and a series of islets.
Trains over four coaches require two locomotives (unless using the Garret).
Garrat! Well, the railway uses visiting locos from other UK routes.
I hope you enjoy the route, and of course feel free to make your own edits.

With Indian Summer sweeping across the Western New York region for the past few days, the crew of Depew, Lancaster & Western Railroad's BT-1 spends a typical morning sorting cars at the CSX interchange before heading towards downtown Batavia, NY to work customers around town! In the 1960s, the Southern Pacific Railroad was shopping for the most powerful locomotives it could find, with no domestic offerings suiting their wants. One company over in Germany offered a solution with some unconventional means, which lead to some interesting results.

Just like any other kind of infrastructure, railroad track is ultimately an expendable resource, requiring periodic reconstruction or rehabilitation to remain in top operational form.
While the large steel rails of today’s railroads are hardy and can last for decades, over time they are surface worn by passing trains, and are subjected to stress and strain which precipitates in the formation of metal fatigue and internal cracking. While rail grinding does extend the life of the rail, eventually it becomes more cost effective to swap it out for new steel.
Special thanks to this crew for graciously allowing me to film their work and be good sports about it. It isn’t always easy working in front of an unknown camera lens, but I think this process is so neat and worth sharing with others. I hope that after watching this video you have also come to appreciate the process and honest work these guys do to keep trains rolling.

The S&NY was a short-line railroad connecting the Lehigh Valley Railroad at Towanda, Pennsylvania with the Pennsylvania Railroad at Marsh Hill Junction. The railroad carried freight and passengers between Williamsport and Towanda.

I had to split this Huge Route into 2 Pieces if I recall, it is over 100 some miles or more long.......
Just looking down from here, one can see this is lengthy Route. Very enjoyable.
Tracks and Signaling are superb.
Well Dressed Business travelers too.
Switching Routes from one city to another as I learn this Route.
End of one of 5 Points.......We switch train direction very easily, no Round Table needed......
Nicely Textured and Plants, Trees etc very well done through out.

Two movements of the South Buffalo Railway on two days are featured, including first a light power move of a pair of SW1500s after a crew delivered loaded gondolas to South Side Precast Products in the Port of Buffalo, the former Bethlehem Steel site! Two days later, the transfer train with the Buffalo & Pittsburgh departs Buffalo Creek Yard and heads back to PS Yard with an unexpected sight: B&P's GP18 providing extra power for the long and heavy train to get up the hill and over Long Bridge!

The S&NY was a short-line railroad connecting the Lehigh Valley Railroad at Towanda, Pennsylvania with the Pennsylvania Railroad at Marsh Hill Junction. The railroad carried freight and passengers between Williamsport and Towanda.

I had to split this Huge Route into 2 Pieces if I recall, it is over 100 some miles or more long.......
Just looking down from here, one can see this is lengthy Route. Very enjoyable.
Tracks and Signaling are superb.
Well Dressed Business travelers too.
Switching Routes from one city to another as I learn this Route.
End of one of 5 Points.......We switch train direction very easily, no Round Table needed......

Two days later, the transfer train with the Buffalo & Pittsburgh departs Buffalo Creek Yard and heads back to PS Yard with an unexpected sight: B&P's GP18 providing extra power for the long and heavy train to get up the hill and over Long Bridge!

Good Rainy Monday to all, Mother Nature has assured me of 3-4 inches of Rain n Snow, which we welcome to our dusty dry ground. I let her know, we could use as much as she can bring. Ironically I just finished repairing Roof Tiles and new 30LB Felt, only 4 more sections of Roof to rip out, and repair, laborious but it will get done. So Blue was bad and saw some more Routes that looked interesting, Very Large to small one Tile ones elegantly made. Added them to my collection. Illawarra South Coast NSW Australia Gloucester Terminal Railroad ---- Electric -- V3.5 Model Trainz - DRGW San Miguel Branch TRS19 Rockmount, PA 001 Scenic & Relaxed The last one, I decided to run some dedicated Conrail Equip, was thinking about using Southern Pacific, but in hind site, I have never ran with Conrail, so why not now. And I am happy to say, no faulty Assets or Routes. The only thing, I need to fix is some uniform Color Errors, and Missing Thumb Photos. On another Note Bob MSGSapper, has just crossed the 4000 Asset made in Trainz, he is an amazing Developer, Fixer Upper, Imagine er Disney Style. A warm thank you Bob for Attention to detail, and for making Trainz ever more interesting and Fun to play with. I would be remiss here not to include, Bob is a heck of Teacher too, especially when you see all the cogent Documentation he provides with details particular to resolved issues and/or improvements. First up is Reading & Northern's RDC (Budd Cars). I've previously rode in them, but this will be my first time catching them in action as a rail-fan. Second up is Reading & Northern's #425 Steam Locomotive, the Blue beauty. This was reported to be her Final run as she's set to undergo her 1,472 day inspection which will take her out of service for 5 years. With 3 cameras and a great location, this was the start to a fantastic day of train action with @RJ78 Productions. Sadly, things took an unexpected turn for the worse. After leaving this location, I was involved in a car accident which put an end to my day. Thankfully, no one got seriously hurt, but it did shake me up and put a damper on things. On the bright side, later on in the day I learned that #425 will run 4 more times in the month of December, so I have a chance to see her in action again =================================================================================== Abandoned railroad being restored - Taunton, MA - 11/5/2022 https://youtu.be/6boamU_JFZs I once again visited the Myles Standish Industrial Park to check on the restoration of 2000 feet of track to an apparent new customer. Some of the track has not been used in 30 or so years so some of it is getting a complete replacement. This video shows some of the old track removed as well as materials stockpiled ready to be installed once the time comes. New ties, switch packages, and I believe relay rail are among the supplies. It also appears that a number of ties were installed in the run around. Norfolk Southern 3036, 720, 3041, & 721 were assigned to move derailed UP 5594, NS 8402 & UP 3780 back to Conway Yard following derailment @ Sewickley, PA.
The UP had come off the rails again requiring re railing @ leetsdale. Crews walked alongside train all the way back to Conway. At 10 mph that was a long walk back for its now dusk

Wisconsin & Southern Railroad Wheel Changeout
Steel wheels on steel rails is a great way to move a lot of freight, but those wheels better be circular! From time to time, wheels must be changed out due to defects, particularity for flat spots. Usually the result of the car being dragged with the brakes still applied, the spots are cause for concern as they can do damage to track and lead to wheel failures.
For this two-bay covered hopper, a wheel impact detector, a high-tech piece of wayside defect detection, caught it leaving Chicago thumping along. So when the car arrived at the Wisconsin & Southern's Janesville yard, it was kicked to the repair track for a new set of wheels.
Watch as the carmen show off the wheel replacement process to the next generation of railroaders from Michigan Technological University's Railroad Engineering and Activities Club (REAC).
How are railcar trucks connected to the cars? What parts make up a truck? How do they swap out wheels? All of those questions and more in this 504th episode of the Thornapple River Rail Series.

Norfolk Southern 3036, 720, 3041, & 721 were assigned to move derailed UP 5594, NS 8402 & UP 3780 back to Conway Yard following derailment @ Sewickley, PA.
The UP had come off the rails again requiring re railing @ leetsdale. Crews walked alongside train all the way back to Conway. At 10 mph that was a long walk back for its now dusk

Wisconsin & Southern Railroad Wheel Changeout
Steel wheels on steel rails is a great way to move a lot of freight, but those wheels better be circular! From time to time, wheels must be changed out due to defects, particularity for flat spots. Usually the result of the car being dragged with the brakes still applied, the spots are cause for concern as they can do damage to track and lead to wheel failures.
For this two-bay covered hopper, a wheel impact detector, a high-tech piece of wayside defect detection, caught it leaving Chicago thumping along. So when the car arrived at the Wisconsin & Southern's Janesville yard, it was kicked to the repair track for a new set of wheels.
Watch as the carmen show off the wheel replacement process to the next generation of railroaders from Michigan Technological University's Railroad Engineering and Activities Club (REAC).
How are railcar trucks connected to the cars? What parts make up a truck? How do they swap out wheels? All of those questions and more in this 504th episode of the Thornapple River Rail Series.

A Blessed Friday to all,
Well this was a week I wont forget, one of my Teeth was causing a lot of pain, so Monday, I went to my Dentist, he X-Ray, and told me not one but 2 teeth would be pulled. I blinked, and said what? Oh yeah, you getting a double header, I said when, he said now, not tomorrow! So after all was said and done, it was very good thing he pulled them, one was starting infection. I was very lucky, he told me, in 1-2 days it would have been critical to Abscess. Funny thing was, usually it hurts more after the surgery, this time, I have less pain, than the Tooth Pain I suffered over the weekend......
Now over to the fun stuff.
During my free time at night, I took several small Routes 1-15 tiles and merged them together, unfortunately, some of them probably do to PBR stuff would only merge Rails Roads, no buildings, no tiles, and so flat elevation.
Solution, add tiles underneath, re-texture and rebuild the hills and Valleys from Pictures. And I going to use PBR Textures too. They'll look really good.

Going up this way from Gravel Pit, 2 Pushers are needed as the Grade is much heavier.
2 Separate Mining Loading Operations here to keep it lively. Miners live right on top the hill here. Work is 2 minutes from home, if you don't trip going down the hill side.
2 Trains are busy getting there daily Loads ready for the Cities.
Slow and steady is the name of the game.
Another area behind the Green here is Sand and Gravel, Cement Plants going into production. That was why these tracks got extended around the mountain here. Before this it was just 2 Stub Tracks from the Mining facilities here. Now we have dedicated Branch Lines into the Gravel Pit area.

Then between that day and the following day I decided to document relics and current power of the old shoreline, including Alco S2s left to the elements, an SW1 still in use on the former Bethlehem Steel site, and much to my surprise, a pair of automated and electric QNS&L SW1200MGs sitting in the railroad's main PS Yard!

Good Evening all,
Just got back from a Honolulu HA, it's been about 10 yrs or so since I last visited this beautiful Island. One thing I do not miss, unfortunately, is 87% Humidity, reminds me of some of my trips to Louisiana and Texas back in the day, take a Shower, clean up, and then its stiff-ling hot......Time to Drink a Blue Hawaiian drink.
Apart from that, enjoyed some good time with out of town Family members from the East Coast side. They were most happy to get away from 20-40 Degree Days with Snow.

Deep in the Canyon with good weather.
Coming thru a somewhat enchanted Forest.
About a 2.5% grade to climb here. Not a problem, our Locomotive has enough Horses.
We cross deep Gorges here, Late Summer Snow on top the Mountains.
As we pass over these Fast moving waters, one pauses to think, how about White Water River Rafting.
Better have a good insurance policy, these waters are way to dangerous, and those things in the way down, there Boulders as big as Cars.
High, High above very steep cliffs, so far no Avalanche issues, but if enough Snow accumulates it could cause closing of this Line if Snow abatement doesn't handle issue. Just something to be aware of as a very Cold Winter approaches in this part of the Country.
Earlier in the Year, warm summers as CSX Units bring some Freight thru.
This Canyon behind us has numerous Crossover Bridges and if one doesn't know the Routes, you can end up lost in one of the Forests. Fortunately the Rails have unique Mile Markers, as Engineer, you best have a set of Track Plans with you in the Cab to figure where you at, and where your supposed to be going, oh I forgot, there are some Tunnels with single Track lines.

Excel Recycling, a scrap metal company, recently started to load rail cars in Freetown, MA this past July. Usually empty cars come in and then loads go out. Interestingly enough three loaded gondolas of slag (a byproduct of smelting) showed up this month for the customer. These are the first incoming loads to the company since they started to use rail this year. This video shows them en-route to the customer both on CSX and Mass Coastal but no footage at the customer's siding due to it being dark (no light for video). The MC footage shows it on MC-4 en route to the customer the day of delivery which was also the same day speeds went up. Check the end screen of the video for more footage of trains moving cars to/from Excel Recycling earlier this year.

Back in 2010, things track side were more colorful and interesting railfan wise. In this throwback Thursday video, we'll see a matching pair of Southern Pacific AC44 units leading a Canadian Pacific oil train over the Paynesville Sub, and part of the BNSF. Since this was shot, the lead unit has been repainted into Union Pacific colors.
The video starts off in Loretto as the train gets a route after meeting a CP WB. After this, we'll hear its horn again, and see them doing track speed as they race through Medina on a brisk winter morning. We will see it one last time as it pounds the diamonds at Park Jct before calling it a day. At this time, CP trains still took the BNSF Saint Paul Sub for nearly all of their EB and WB trains. A rare MLW RS23, built in 1959, is used by the Minnesota Commercial, and stationed at CTM in Fridley, MN. Each time this old locomotive throttles up, it puts on a nice smoke show. The former Canadian Pacific unit is one of the few RS23s that are still around, and in daily service.
We'll start off seeing the RS23 setting out a cut of cars in New Brighton, before tacking onto a cut of loaded coil cars. The veteran locomotive made easy work of these, and sounded great as it tackled the short, yet stiff grade back to CTM. After some switching moves, and cutting away from its train, the crew of MNNR 80 tied down, and called it a day. It was a surprise to see this old school locomotive out and about!

What was once the Grand Trunk Western's mainline into downtown Detroit is now a 2.5 mile spur operated by the Adrian and Blissfield Railroad. The operation runs as-needed, and was photographed in October of 2022. Power on the line consists of DCON #4, a 65tonner, and ADBF #836, a SW900. This video depicts the stone train at Sabattis. Paul Mitchell of Tupper Lake NY had a fleet of 40-ton trucks, most days 3 of 40-ton trucks would each make three round-trips between Tahawus Mine and Sabattis NY. Each round trip was slightly more than 90 miles in length. Additionally, each night the stone trucks returned to their home base on Route 3 in Tupper Lake for fueling and servicing, and in the morning would depart from Tupper Lake to Tahawus Mine, from which they would depart to Sabattis to begin their 3 daily round trips. The quality of stone ballast from Tahawus Mine was considered to be of the highest possible quality. Daily, Monday thru Friday 3 40-ton trucks would make 3 round trips daily; so 3 (trucks) multiplied by 3 (each truck made 3 round trips daily) multiplied by 5 (working days per week). Hence, in the average week 45 round trips would be made and each trip carried 40 tons of ballast stone. In an average week 1800 tons of high-quality ballast stone would be delivered from Tahawus Mine to Sabattis NY, where at the exact location of the former Sabattis Station a huge stone pile would be formed, the height of which would easily exceed the top of the locomotives by many feet. While Mitchell's trucks were the supply side, the stone train was the distribution side. There were 8 specially built stone distributing cars in the train, each car could carry a maximum of 100 tons of stone, or one train could carry a maximum of 800 tons of stone. A train carrying 800 tons of ballast stone would be able to cover anywhere from 1/2 to 3/4 mile of railroad track with sufficient ballast stone. Each car in the train had chutes arranged along the bottom of the car controlled from controls mounded on the base of the car on either side of the car, and these regulated the rate of stone distribution, as determined by the 2 operators who were each walked along either side of the train. The average speed of the train during stone distribution was walking speed, i.e., 1 - 1 1/2 miles per hour. The chutes under the ballast cars; the speed of distribution of stone was controlled by the 2 operators walking on either side of the train. Hence stone was disturbed in 4 directions simultaneously (2 chutes per direction) normally, but flow of stone to each of the 8 chutes was independently controlled. Hence, when track turnouts (switches) were encountered appropriate adjustment of the rate of stone flow to the inner two chutes could easily be controlled.
The locomotive engineer on this particular stone train was Mike Waterman, and the conductor Bill Moll (seen riding atop of one of the stone cars).

Just got back from a Honolulu HA, it's been about 10 yrs or so since I last visited this beautiful Island. One thing I do not miss, unfortunately, is 87% Humidity, reminds me of some of my trips to Louisiana and Texas back in the day, take a Shower, clean up, and then its stiff-ling hot......Time to Drink a Blue Hawaiian drink.
Apart from that, enjoyed some good time with out of town Family members from the East Coast side. They were most happy to get away from 20-40 Degree Days with Snow.

Coming thru a somewhat enchanted Forest.
About a 2.5% grade to climb here. Not a problem, our Locomotive has enough Horses.
We cross deep Gorges here, Late Summer Snow on top the Mountains.
As we pass over these Fast moving waters, one pauses to think, how about White Water River Rafting.
Better have a good insurance policy, these waters are way to dangerous, and those things in the way down, there Boulders as big as Cars.
High, High above very steep cliffs, so far no Avalanche issues, but if enough Snow accumulates it could cause closing of this Line if Snow abatement doesn't handle issue. Just something to be aware of as a very Cold Winter approaches in this part of the Country.
Earlier in the Year, warm summers as CSX Units bring some Freight thru.
This Canyon behind us has numerous Crossover Bridges and if one doesn't know the Routes, you can end up lost in one of the Forests. Fortunately the Rails have unique Mile Markers, as Engineer, you best have a set of Track Plans with you in the Cab to figure where you at, and where your supposed to be going, oh I forgot, there are some Tunnels with single Track lines.

Excel Recycling, a scrap metal company, recently started to load rail cars in Freetown, MA this past July. Usually empty cars come in and then loads go out. Interestingly enough three loaded gondolas of slag (a byproduct of smelting) showed up this month for the customer. These are the first incoming loads to the company since they started to use rail this year. This video shows them en-route to the customer both on CSX and Mass Coastal but no footage at the customer's siding due to it being dark (no light for video). The MC footage shows it on MC-4 en route to the customer the day of delivery which was also the same day speeds went up. Check the end screen of the video for more footage of trains moving cars to/from Excel Recycling earlier this year.

Back in 2010, things track side were more colorful and interesting railfan wise. In this throwback Thursday video, we'll see a matching pair of Southern Pacific AC44 units leading a Canadian Pacific oil train over the Paynesville Sub, and part of the BNSF. Since this was shot, the lead unit has been repainted into Union Pacific colors.
The video starts off in Loretto as the train gets a route after meeting a CP WB. After this, we'll hear its horn again, and see them doing track speed as they race through Medina on a brisk winter morning. We will see it one last time as it pounds the diamonds at Park Jct before calling it a day. At this time, CP trains still took the BNSF Saint Paul Sub for nearly all of their EB and WB trains. A rare MLW RS23, built in 1959, is used by the Minnesota Commercial, and stationed at CTM in Fridley, MN. Each time this old locomotive throttles up, it puts on a nice smoke show. The former Canadian Pacific unit is one of the few RS23s that are still around, and in daily service.
We'll start off seeing the RS23 setting out a cut of cars in New Brighton, before tacking onto a cut of loaded coil cars. The veteran locomotive made easy work of these, and sounded great as it tackled the short, yet stiff grade back to CTM. After some switching moves, and cutting away from its train, the crew of MNNR 80 tied down, and called it a day. It was a surprise to see this old school locomotive out and about!

Beautiful Tanker and he has lots of waiting customers for Trans load to international destinations.
Local Shrimpers and other Fisherman can't believe their eyes when they see this Giant Tanker slivering thru the Waters here, making sure not to to close to shallow waters and Sandy Bogs.........

New England Rte/Rte Region renaming/YTube Pics of the week
Good Thursday Evening all,
Been busy fixing things around the house, and decorating for Xmas, which is most likely going to get here sooner than I'll expect.....LOL
On to trainz, I learned something this week, while going thru my Routes looking for certain ones from France and Romania, Poland etc, been messing around with some small Routes that peeked my interest, during my review of the several Routes, I noticed, and had seen this before, that Region descriptions were vague, such as "Generic" "Custom" so that didn't suit my needs for more orderly arrangement of Routes from different countries. I found out renaming Country-Region with specific Abbreviations such as FR for France etc, so now I am setting up to get all my Routes renamed to specific Regions, when I do a Search in Surveyor by Country, all those Routes will show up properly to what I am looking for. Of course it OK for some of them to be Custom, or Generic for other purposes.
Tonight's pictures will be from a New England Route that I added out some areas for heavy industrial operations.
Overhead shot of new Gravel and Rock yard operation, I use a lot of overhead shots to see how my Switching Puzzles look, if I have to make some changes for smoother, more efficient operation methods.
Some Mountains and Waterways.
Nothing like a wide open Waterway to enhance the view from different areas of the Route.
New Industrial areas added, and cutting in a new mainline Bridge connection across the River.
Light Power is headed to do some switching in the Beer Warehouses.
Power Plant gets a Coal Load once a week.
Light Power move, when shunting is complete with Loaded Beer cars etc, along with a Potash load, they'll haul them to Warehouses and Retail spots for distribution.

Fallen Flags: Maine Central Railroad - Calais (ghost) Branch. Part 1

Click on "HQ" at the lower right (below the video box) for best results. Thanks Guilford, especially Mr. Mellon for allowing a once thriving, & vital branch line to go to shambles. This line was heavily used for freight operations up to the mid 1980's, & is/was part of the oldest railroad in Maine (dating back to the 1800's). The pictures of most of the engines (565, & 571) were taken during the final 10 years of operation on the line before Guilford ran it into the ground.
This burns me up what Guilford, & the politicians did/let happen that caused this line to go out of business for good. Lack of proper maintenance finally killed it in 1987, when it became too un-safe to run trains on it reliably anymore. I remember when the very engines in the pictures on this video ran the line, & my grandfather, & I would chase/watch them as they went through Moosehorn out the Charlotte Rd.
Farewell old friend.... The only thing left is the Woodland spur, & the DSRR portion in Ellsworth.

For the first time in 39 years, ex-Kennecott Baldwin VO-1000 #801 is fired up. After replacing the batteries and thoroughly inspecting every part of the locomotive, it was determined that there should have been nothing preventing it from running. July 1, 2022 was selected as the start up day and with the go ahead from Master Mechanic John Henry, Con Trumbull brought the locomotive back to life. Less than a minute later, the old Baldwin settled into a nice idle while several shop workers finished up some smaller tasks. At 9:18am, Con opened the throttle and 801 once again moved under its own power and the crew ran her through the East Ely yard looking for and correcting any bugs that may still be lurking. Con and long time volunteer of the Nevada Northern Railway Museum, Ron Taylor, spearheaded this project. Now that the locomotive is officially operational, the shop crew will go through and fine tune everything, clean and possibly repaint the body and then add the historic diesel to the active roster of the Nevada Northern Railway Museum.
The locomotive was built in December 1942 for the Bingham and Garfield Railway in Utah as their #.801 In 1949, Kennecott transferred the locomotive to their New Mexico Chino Mines Division and was renumbered 80. In September 1963, it was transferred to Ely, Nevada to Kennecott's Nevada Mines Division where its original number, 801, was restored. When the Nevada Northern Railway closed in 1983, the locomotive was stored in operating condition, and subsequently donated to the Nevada Northern Railway Museum when it was founded in 1987.

Railway Mechanical Engineer The K4 chassis:- Strange (to British eyes) are the American fabricated "bar frames". Virtually all British steam locos had heavy duty solid Plate frames. (Basically two complete sheets of metal side by side, with slots for the axle boxes to slide up & down in. With cylinders bolted to the frames.) This style of frame required very high quality track however, as plate frames have virtually no flex in them.
US "Bar frames" as seen in the programmed, became the norm in the US, due to the problems of obtaining very high precision quality in track laying & maintenance in the vast expanses of the USA. In Britain you were never more than 10 miles from a town or village, so track workers were always available to "walk the length" daily.
OK Folks, this will about do it........Take care and stay healthy.

@Javier back at you with the Hugs, you made my day.......I've been busy fooling around with couple of Romanian Routes, I think I might chronicle one in particular, because of things I found out about it.
Enjoy your weekend my friend, We have some great Pacific Rain Storms hitting all the Pacific Coast States with some much needed Rain and Snow. Ours should arrive on Monday. Can't hardly wait for the Rains here and Local Snow in our Mountains to come. What a blessing from high up... :wave:

Hope all are well, as Xmas is 12 days away, whew! Not long now. We got some good Rain Showers and our Xmas Tree was nice and Green. Thank you to the Growers and Mother Nature.
Downloaded a couple of Rte's below, was curious on Buildings and Shrubbery and possible merges with other similar Routes.

I also tripped across this: https://www.lynton-rail.org.uk/railway/news?page=6 Lynton & Barnstaple) which is a small few tiled Route which was opened in 1930's and has an interesting Story behind it, locals are resurrecting it, little by little, it is Narrow Gauge Route.

More than eighty years after its closure in 1935, you can once more board a train of original L&B carriages at England's highest narrow-gauge railway station - the delightfully named Woody Bay Station - 1,000 feet up on wild Exmoor. Operated almost entirely by volunteers, we are a "non-profit" organization owned by its members with the mission to fully restore the legendary Lynton & Barnstaple Railway.
The original Lynton & Barnstaple railway winded its way through the scenic hills of Exmoor, North Devon, until its closure in 1935. However, the line is being resurrected, and enthusiasts have already restored a one-mile long section from Woody Bay to Killington Lane Halt. This route depicts this section, although it may not be totally accurate I hope it gives a good feel of the real thing.

Members of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Thames Valley Group were invited to take their Exhibition and Sales stand to the Watercress Line for the recent Mid-Hants Railway Autumn Steam Gala.
As can be seen from the pictures below, the L&B group were given full use of the viewing gallery in the Carriage Shed at Ropley. Fran Lovelock managed to grab the opportunity to take some photos while there were comparatively few people in the gallery but at other periods the room was crowded with visitors!
It was good to discover just how many of the visitors to the gallery had been to Woody Bay in recent months. They were all very enthusiastic about their train ride and wish the L&B well as it seeks to expand. Several of the visitors said that when they got home they would certainly become an L&B member, either via this page on the L&B website or by making use of the printed application form they had been given.
The L&B team also had lengthy conversations with many visitors to the stand who had little or even no knowledge of the delights of the L&B. It was fascinating to watch the expression on the faces of those people as they heard of all the hard work which has already been put in by so many people during the past 43 years. Many said they admired the perseverance and, above all, the patience of those hundreds of L&B members and supporters and wish the members well as they await the permission to extend.
Thanks are due to L&B members Roger Beazer, Fran Lovelock, John Jones and Brian Johnson for all their hard work during the three days spent at Ropley. Thanks also to the Watercress Line for providing the opportunity to TVG to spread the word of the L&B.

This is what happens when your Highway doesn't have a Boats Traffic Stopper Device or similar! LOL
Got some missing Assets or Signals maybe I have find some Semaphores for this Route.
Nice large Rail Yard to play with.
Passenger Train is a flying thru this lovely country side, nicely detail Shrub and Trees.
Nice day for a train ride thru the Country Side, now all I need is good spot of Tea.
Over hill, over Dale a Marching, oops, a riding we will go.
Few Cows in the green a enjoying some nice green pasture grass.
At a station stop to pick up/ drop off Passengers.
Gosford Hanksbury I think is the name of this particular Route.
Got run, we have a little bit more Concrete Demo to be done today, as we add a few more Paver Tiles in a small area, Cement has gotten so cracked from Earth Quakes and heaving of Soil, Pavers will work out much better.......
I'll try and post some Y Tube picks tomorrow.......
