Which is your preferred version

DRM (Digital Rights Management), is where N3V DRM Server controls your DLC (DownLoaded Content), and N3V shuts this content off, if you do not connect to the N3V servers every 30 days ... if the Company N3V ever ceases to exist, your paid for DLC will be terminated, If and when the N3V Company ever ceases to exist (as N3V DRM server controls these DLC assets) ... the "Disable Offline Feature" tick box on DRM Free versions, is essentially like unplugging your Eithernet cable to N3V DRM servers. You must connect to N3V DRM servers every 30 days, or your online feature DLC assets will be turned off, until you do connect online to N3V servers. Should you be unable to connect to N3V DRM Servers, your DLC will be turned off

RRSignal,

What are the implications of this? Have no idea what it means.

The problem now would be finding a copy of TS12 without the SP1 patch pre-installed these days, which locks down DLC and other content.

Geoff

Without SP1 - aka 3.6 or 49922 - is the last version of Trainz that does not have N3V's nonsense DLC-cum-adware+DRM system. It's more resilient to problems with the database caused by issues with N3V's online services because they can't be bothered to find a better host. But for the most part and if you're starting fresh, SP1HF4 is perfectly fine at least for the next 10 months anyway, upon which N3V might find another new way to rip us all a new one.

Many thanks to all who contributed. Score seems to be TS12 defeated TANE 8 votes to 2.
Will happily now head down path thru TS2010 to TS12 then, maybe TANE, if N3V holds it together.

Geoff

I'm still enjoying TS2010. I've started using TS2012 - build 49922 (ver3.6) a little bit more lately. (No DRM, still has "compatibility" mode, & all brought DLC still works).

Whilst I have TS2012 SP1 HF4 & TANE installed, I'm finding when using them, my frame rates on large, detailed routes is a bit low/choppy even with most setting on "medium" with my Nvidia 660ti.

I plan on replacing my current video card with a Nvidia 980ti "when N3V finally sort's out Tane". :hehe: (The 980ti should give me much better frame rates in TS2012 SP1 HF4 & Tane)...

Looking forward to Tane SP1 HF2 as I believe TANE is still the right way forward for Trainz. Pleased I supported Kick-starter, but like some other Traizers, I'm still a little frustrated and disappointed that it's taking N3V so long to get Tane right. (Still hanging in there like the rest of you tho)!!!

Hopefully in six months time, I can look back and say; "boy, it was all worth the wait"...

Happy trainzing,

Cheers, Mac...

I may be old-fashioned now, but my preferred Trainz is 2009 SP2. I am currently building / running a 700+ mile route in it. About 250 miles is finished, the rest is just track so far. It's mainly judder-free and frame rates are quite good (between 25 to 53fps depending on scenery). This is all on a brand-new 64bit machine with GTX750ti graphics. I use SP2 mainly because it has the grid built-in for wiping out errors in textures, most useful for me. I upgraded to SP3/4 and have TS12, both 49922 and 61388. These were only to check out my assets which I no longer make.
