What is Trainz Simulator 12 ?

(quote taken from TS12 FAQ at http://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php5/TS12):

So does that mean that you should purchase Trainz 12 to join multiplayer, or Trainz 10 would be enough? Since there IS multiplayer in Trainz 10 (beta, but working), technically, Trainz 12 is NOT the first retail version with multiplayer.

TS2010MP is not available in retail, you have to have been accepted into the public beta, which at this point is no longer possible afaik. So no, they're correct in saying that it's the first retail version with MP.

It's also entirely possible that another SP could come out for TS2010 that doesn't have the MP features, now that MP is the domain of TS12+.

Just because special builds of TS2010 were used to develop and test multi-player, doesn't make multi-player a feature of TS2010, it's just a natural way of developing a new feature to build it into an existing product as a testbed :) To give a trains-y analogy - when BR class 86 #86244 was fitted with the experimental BR/Brecknell, Willis Highspeed pantograph, it didn't mean that the class 86 had that pantograph, just that it was being tested on that class.

Your comment re: the public beta may not be strictly true now, as Auran/N3V have removed the 'you have to register your serial by January 2011' requirement (see the Auran Announcements thread)

I disagree that they will get rid of it in trainz 2010 after beta testing it. It would make just make no sense to add something that is so cool to the game and then take it away after testing. This would be a bad move if they did remove it.

As for computer specs to run trainz 12 it will be most likely trainz 2010 specs only it going to need a stronger graphics card

From what Chris linked to ...................
Recommended
  • Windows Vista / Windows 7 (64 bit)
  • 2GB RAM
  • Core 2 Duo (or equivalent)
  • nVidia GeForce 8600 (or equivalent)
  • 15GB free hard drive space
Apart from running Windows XP, my machine meets or exceeds all the criterior, that now puts me in another quandry .............
Do I upgrade to 2010 in the next few months, or do I now wait for the std retail version of TS12 ?

I would wait and just buy trainz 12 I mean it has all the feature of trainz 2010 plus with better features in it. Really depends on if you can wait that long for it.

Well I've been holding out until the content updates got near to completion, Chris has stated that there isn't too much
more left, if it means waiting just a little longer & getting the added bonus of doppler, I think that's where I'll be heading. :D

There is no indication that the improvements include the doppler effect in TS2012. Actually, there is no list of any improvements of the core game software - a huge marketing error in my opinion.

Closed beta-testing of it occurred and an opinion of its participants exits. The opinion that doppler effect have been already introduced into Jet engine.

Hi guys,

It's early days yet, but you'll find some of your questions answered here.

kind regards,

chris

Thanks for the info but for me it raises some questions namely:

1. Is TS12 radically different to TS2010 or is it TS2010+extras, if it isn't so different why should/would I need or bother to purchase it?

2. Does the new quality content include any UK stock?

3. How much will N3V be asking for 'digital download only' when and if available?

Thanks,

Rob.

It is trainz 2010 with extra features like better graphics. Plus new trains but that is about it I see in it.

You just should have Trainz 2010 serial number registered to get access to MP features

It's also entirely possible that another SP could come out for TS2010 that doesn't have the MP features, now that MP is the domain of TS12+.

Disabling MP features for Trainz 2010 would be a very bad move.

No more hysteria

;) Harold, have you noticed much of this over here?...

Hysteria, in its colloquial use, describes unmanageable emotional excesses. People who are "hysterical" often lose self-control due to an overwhelming fear that may be caused by multiple events in one's past that involved some sort of severe conflict; the fear can be centered on a body part, or, most commonly, on an imagined problem with that body part. Disease is a common complaint; see also Body dysmorphic disorder and Hypochondriasis. Generally, modern medical professionals have given up the use of "hysteria" as a diagnostic category, replacing it with more precisely defined categories such as somatization disorder. In 1980, the American Psychiatric Association officially changed the diagnosis of "hysterical neurosis, conversion type" to "conversion disorder".

Me? :hehe: well, well, I could go by the category of...

Female hysteria was a once-common medical diagnosis, made exclusively in women, which is today no longer recognized by modern medical authorities as a medical disorder. Its diagnosis and treatment were routine for many hundreds of years in Western Europe.

  • The only new thing happened since the beginning of this thread was the not compulsory joining in of Chris W_W, to be thanked of course as all the rest of the posts here, to tell us what we already knew or foresaw. If that FAQ is something new, I'm the archbishop of Canterbury. :hehe: Maybe I am.
  • I remember the times when all forum software was presented as 'Discussion Forums", and that's what has been occurring on this thread, take some desirable digression in or out.

Hi Everybody.
Perhaps it is the fact that I am getting old but I find it difficult to get very excited about Trainz 2012 at all. All that has been announced is there is to be a 10th anniversary limited collectors edition named as Trainz 12. Those members who buy that may well be looking for something which is an investment long-term or very fervent trainz fans for who it would be a " Must Have" item.

For those who choose not to purchase the collectors edition or cannot get hold of it because of oversubscription (now there's a laugh) will no doubt have to wait until the normal download or disc version becomes available which doubtless will not be far behind.

it will then be a choice based on everyone's individual perception or needs. As an example, in my own case my current system meets all the requirements with the exception that it is running Vista 32. Therefore I would have to upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit which would cost me £100 (British sterling) plus the cost of Trainz 2012 which I would imagine would cost around £40 based on previous edition costs.

Therefore I will be looking at what improvements are in the new edition and will decide to buy or not based on the information given by Auran and postings on this forum. So until the time that the download or normal disc version is announce as available I do not see anything to get excited about

There will be many Trainzers I am sure who will be in the same position as myself with regard to upgrades to run 2012 and each will have to make his/her own decision based on their ability to do that and the advantage to be gained for their hobby.

Your Windows Vista 32 will be ok, no need to upgrade your op system if you don't want to .................

System Requirements

Minimum
  • Windows XP (with Service Pack 3)
  • 2GB RAM
  • Pentium D 3.4GHz (or equivalent)
  • nVidia GeForce 7200 / 128MB (or equivalent)
  • 15GB free hard drive space
Now if XP (SP3) will run it, Vista sure will. ;)

Another adage from a long ago gaming forum, I believe it had to do with "Quake" specs:

"Ya gotta pays the bucks to plays the game"

It is called progress
