What commodity can be carried by which cars?

Is there a way to determine what cars can carry particular commodities? I am attempting to carry barley but am unable to get it to load on any vehicle. I have been trying this through a trial-and-error process but have yet to be successful while thinking there must be a better way to do this.

The industry is 151900:100037:1 (Barleyfactory). I am assuming the commodity is 151900:100039:2 (Barley)

Any help is appreciated!

Display the asset in Content Manager. Look at its dependencies (right-click, List Dependencies). That will list some other dependencies in addition to the products.

You can get descriptions of products available to be loaded in Surveyor if you open the Traincars tab, select the question-mark icon, and then select the traincar. But note that descriptions are not always unique.

If the traincar has been configured for bulk loads then any product in that category can be loaded (but I don't think that works properly).
 
The way I do it is similar, I find the Commodity in CM and then list "Dependants" then you can sort the list by category. of even modify the result set to only show a category of Train.
 
Asset 151900:100039:2 is listed as a dependency.

I did notice (with your help) that I can add a commodity to a given car via the properties interface. Is there any way to find out if there is a car type available to transport a commodity before manually configuring one. With my knowledge level I'd most likely configure a petrol tanker to haul the barley thinking it would add zest to the final product ;).

You can do the reverse of the dependencies of the traincar - List Dependants for the product (you will probably then want to sort or filter by Category to get traincars only)

Don't forget that you can have CM open at the same time as you are configuring things in Surveyor.

But be aware that it might not work for all freight cars. They do have to be correctly configured by the author and for visible bulk loads this includes the correct texture replacement entry in the config.txt file.

I do know a way to force commodity loads.

In T:ANE if you select the car with "?" and under loads, hit the plus sign and then you can select a specialized load for that car. and yet it does apply when you hit the "Copy to other cars" button too. Doing this I was able to load gondolas with iron pellets which by default they can't really load.
 
Majekear made '2 bay ACF Cov hoppers', most will load your barley.
Also 'Tdgs barley transport' by blue_sky_interactive

All of the above works fine. But if you bring the car to a portal, what comes out is not the same as what goes in! You may configure commodities in the standard menu, but after the portal, it goes back to the original settings. Only way around this is to go to config file of the particular car, locate all the KUID's that came with the asset and add the ones you need. Now you car has been modified and will come out of the portal with these assets. Still, there are some cars that will not accept certain commodities no matter what you do at the config file.
