Underground mining?

transitguard

workin' away.......
Just a question...

Has any content creator ever had the idea to make tunnels that looked like a mine and a transfer table that worked like Vulcan's helicopter lifts to be an elevator? Does anyone think this is even practical?

Yes it is possible and has been done. I have made some elevators that work too.

That's Nice!:udrool: Ever considered making some for larger rolling stock as would be used in a slightly more modern mine?

Underground Mining

NICE photo ! What type of Loco, Tunnel and Track is that in your screenshot ?

OOOOh, OOOOh...Tell us more about your mining elevators and other creations

The engine is by Shortline2. The tunnels in the above picture are only one variation of the tunnels. I have made lots of variations of them, some with planks by the rails, ties covered, ties showing a little, ties uncovered, and also a wide tunnel with all of the previous variations too. Then there is all of the mine cars, chutes to load the cars, and various other places to drop off supplies. I have a test map I will get some pics of the mining operations I have there.

Underground Mining

This is an extemely interesting thread...and I love the screenshots ! I take coal mine tours in PA, (3 I know of), and the rides on the trams are so much fun...Coal Mine tours RULE !

I really must have your track(s). I am looking for a dank/dark/wet-rock walled/timber framed-coal mine tunnel spline, with timber framed uprights and headers placed every 20' or so. Light bulbs on the walls, or hanging from the ceilings wolud be a great effect !

Can't wait for all your information and screenshots !

I was also going to try my hand at creating mine tunnels. I thought that it would be a good way to learn to make splines.
My idea was to make the mine entrance, with a dig-hole, then the gallery with side branches and the working face and gallery end all as separate pieces, then make the tunnels as splines to connect everything.
I was stopped by two problems. I don['t have time to work on it, and I don't have any idea what the inside of a coal mine looks like.
It's nice to see some one making the parts for a mining complex.

:cool:Claude

I would like a link to these tunnels, I made a mine setup using swiss tunnel, but this looks much better.

Also, I have to make an open top the the mine itself, hidden as best I could with trees. How can I set a closed top to this?

Where can all of these be found?:udrool: I've got the trammers and some little flatcars but I don't know where to find everything else.

Hi lilb,

I'm real pleased to hear you been able to chug along in the mining trade, and getting the shafts working really help makes the scene.

Any chance to see how you made the elevator part, a cage or a bucket?
I guess a cage so you can take ore cars or the Mancha down below. :)

I'm sorry I lost contact and creating feel - after all, I did my basic setup back in I guess 2003/2004 when TRS2004 came out and the availability to make a shaft work was introduced to Trainz. :)
So, I guess we both have proved it is possible in Trainz, just you done more with it then me - hope to see that one day, as I haven't totally forgot about Trainz yet (after all, I do read the forum from time to time  :p)

Best wishes

Linda

I have ridden all the coal mine tours that I can, and it is really cool (56F year round). The Landsford PA coal mine in is a wet walled, rough rock walled tunnel, with slanted rough timber uprights & top headers at a spacing of @ 20' apart. Here is an example photo of a static mine front that is on DLS, but it is not opperational. The wooden walls is an unprototypical detail, except in the tunnel enterances. Incandescent light bulds hang from the ceilings or from the walls. An electrical overhead "Juke" cable cantenary is the means of powering the locos outside of most mines, or the small squatty looking locos are battery powered down in the mines. A dark coal mine tunnel spline would be a really cool creation.

A little 3d panorama of a special junction I'm making.

I'll get some shots of the elevators and rest of the mine later.

Thanks lilb!

Had to install QuickTime as I didn't had it, but it was worth it to see how you have been able to move on with the mine tunnel concept - well done!

I noticed you don't have any rails in there, so I guess the ground it self acts as a track, as how else to you get around in the mine tunnels? ;)

Either way, it looked nice, very nice - as said before, you have great talent and your love for the mining theme is very welcomed!

Thanks for sharing this view.

Underground Mining

OHHH...that is so COOL....and Spooky ! ...like a virtual coal mine tour ! You have to develope this more...I am thrilled with the screenshots and track. It's like being there...except it is not full screen on my PC...trying to get fullscreen view !

You need to put a movie on Youtube of this, with a loco headlight on, inside the mine.

Show us lots more, and let us know where to get the tunnel spline(s).

Hi lilb,

Real great looking model work there!

Better texturing then my tunnel, that is for sure, as mine is just dark - other then that, it looks quite similar, so I guess it means my models wasn't that off (for someone that never been in a real mine tunnel like you have LOL).
Keep it up, you do good work!

Best wishes

Linda
