Underground mining?

Really nice work there, I like the stope and square set timbering. It would be cool if there was more equipment available for this aspect of trainz. Keep it up! Makes me feel like I live and work underground in Nevada again.

Does anyone know of a good 18in mine car on the DLS for loading gold ore into? I'm making a route for release and am trying to make a working mine section using the 18in mine tunnels and some multiple industry tracks to work with one of bendorsey's mines.

I'm currently using sssjung's "Kipplore" (Gerd's desn't support gold ore) with the 18in bogeys but going down the tunnels the wagon is too big really. :(

If not, is there a full 24in set of the mining tunnels, junctions, etc?

Thanks :)

Edit: I can find 24in tunnels, but I there seems to be no "end" or junctions. I'd prefer to find a good 18in mine car though as I like the 18in Mancha loco. :D

This thread really inspires me: http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?38413-Underground-mining&p=414109#post414109

I just had to bump this thread ... I had a brainstorm !

I have limited myself to 3 routes, as any more would be too much to complete in a lifetime.

PRR Mount Union To Johnstown
The East Broad Top RR
An 8700 railcar Hump Classification Yard

My plan is it add just one more route, or add it on to the EBT RR route ... an underground mining twisting maze ... that never ends ... it just goes on ... and on ... and on downward ... until it reaches molten magma ... sort of like a run away mine train at Disney World, complete with scary sound effects noises, skeletons, dinosaurs and other spooky stuff.

yes because i'm absolutely positive that the EBT had a mine with scary noises skeletons dinosaurs and molten magma.....

Hi all,

I already posted this at another thread, but in case someone is not reading that but this, here is the main part repeated as I am sort of proud I made it.. :)

Due to a PM last week - sorry to that sender, not replied yet per say, but you see I made a response to it a different way  - I've spent my week with an old model back from 2007/2008 and when I decided to try to see if I was able to upload a build 2009 to the DLS, I found was able, so, for those lucky few that are able to play with badly textured and modeled small 18inch narrow gauge mining themed models, you are now able to add a ore car to your small collection! :)

Look it up on the DLS as 18inch ore car w/side dump (1 side) <KUID2:77573:102:1>

In addition you need the wheels: Wheels for 18inch orecar w/side dump <KUID2:77573:1020:1>

and I also added a interior view: Interior for 18inch orecar w/side dump <KUID2:77573:10201:1>

Anyway, inside the car and wheel models there are my old basic TRS2004 config, no guaranties it will work straight out of the box in versions before TS2010 though as I only test ran it in TS12 and checked the config in TS2010 but has ran the car for years before that with no wheels turning and so on...

The Interior was a last minute add on, took me hours to work as I had forgot the attachment point a.cabfront in my models... I also had some issues with the texture being way to bluish on the Interior model, faked it better by playing with the texture, not great looking, but don't look down when in the car, and it all looks way better.. :hehe:

I hope it is just not me that love it, as I been spending so much time with it, I has to love it... :p

Hopefully it has no great big errors that will show up at other peoples computers, and I hope it will be of use to those crazy enough to dive into the great blue underworld of Trainz! :D

I am testing them out in TRS2006

Ever since I rode 3 coal mine tours, down into old coal mines in Pennsylvania, I was in love with mines.

A constant 56F year round, it is refreshing in the summertime.

Thank You x 1,000,000 times :D

I plan on making a underground mining route for Halloween, complete with spooky noises, ghouls, ghosts and goblins down in your great mine tunnels

I agree...! Thank you, Linda for the great work.

I too did this last year (2013) during the hottest week in August. Frank Bartus and I visited the No. 9 Coal Mine, now a museum, up in Coaldale just outside of Lansford, PA. This was the last operating mine run by the "New Company" which was the reorganization of the Lehigh Valley Coal and Navigation, a former subsidiary of the CNJ.

Hi all:

Just in case you were unaware of it a transfer table can be made to work in the vertical mode. Multiple stopping points too. Little trickier to set up the a normal one butt can be done if you are wondering how to get ore trams out of the mine other then in the normal way

Ben

Which transfer table is that you speak of (Name/Kuid) ?

I am really "digging it" as the couple inch's of slack action is fantastic !

I Think Ben is talking about making one from scratch...

I did one many, many years ago, when it was first possible, might been back at TRS2004 days, but, as with most of my projects, it was more a proof of concept then a fully working model...

Mine is made as a head frame, and one of the troubles I had was as it got deeper, attaching tracks to it became very, very hard inside of Trainz... And being a lone miner back then, I sort of put it aside, waiting for better days, and more knowledge and so on...

I've used the same Principle to build an incline track, using a turntable control item to make it work better, also a work in slow progress (WISP) In that incline there is some problems with the tracks meeting up, and I build my stuff by using X, Y, Z coordinates and 4 decimals behind the meter so taking in real down into tenth of a millimeter, so, there should be no problems with my model so it is a Trainz visual problem...

The mining Scene in Trainz been real low in interest for most people, the best I seen has been some stuff by lilb and I know some German larger coal mining stuff, so the extra puff behind (or kick... :p) is not normally there either. :)

I got some last week, burned out on that ore car and now we're suppose to travel across Norway this week so all things are on hold on my end, again.

But, this thread is a good way to attract some attention and maybe more models pop up along the way... I can share the coordinates of my tunnels for those needing to match those for instance...

I suspect that with the New Era coming, things will change and unless they really mess it up, maybe it will be easier to make mining stuff also, next year will show I guess. :)

I just wish they could make a 5 meter Dig Hole work and not continue us to just keep the 10m hole, I hated that comment back when 5 meter grid was introduce that making a 5m Dig Hole would render all the 10 meter Dig Holes either useless or it would confuse people so they rather not doing it - as a comment from the Powers over Trainz said on the TS2009 Forum long gone...

Doing mining scenes, and a 10 meter hole is darn annoying to cover up and make good...

Anyway, back to the regular show, I'm of to bed at 0059 in the morning...!

Hi Linda:

Yup - was talking about items from scratch. I've made 3 or 4 total and as I said a bit trickier then a normal transfer table but they can be made.

Even stranger I think one can be made to move in 2 axis at the same time since positioning is done in the config file by keyframes. They don't care how far apart the values are or in which direction(s). Admittedly I've never tried it but if you need one bad enough its worth a try.

A transfer table can be made to work in the direction of the track too (not sideways). I made what is known as a Transporter Bridge over the Kiel Canal in Germany that way and it worked.

Give ya'll something to think about, lol.

I'm not sure if anyone else remembers, but I have a copy of the CTC network that someone was working on, I think it might have been for 2006, though. It has vertical elevators, etc.

In the Landsford No9 Coal Mine there is a vertical elevator mine shaft, with a snapped cable, and the elevator cabin sits down a water filled mine shat hole that is 300' deep !

They have many connecting tunnels between separate levels, just wide enough for the mules (who went blind from lack of sunlight), and they would slap an ass (mule) and it would complacently trod up to the next level for a carrot from a mule tender boy in the mine.

I forgot about that! :) There is a coal car on a very rusty lift right in the first gallery. It was quite interesting to see the trapwork and everything else.

The tour guide had us stand around in the dark to experience the darkness of the mine. It was pretty scary because you really can't see a thing. Period! He also had kids volunteer as "workers" and they had to work in the mine. Imagine working in that environment, and there were many, many other mine shafts all over that area.

Mr. Bartus and I also visited the St. Nicholas Breaker, just outside of Mahanoy City. This was one of the largest breakers and last breakers in operation in the 1970s. There was once a big train yard there and an interesting operation switch operation and dump house. A couple of the buildings still exist, sadly vandalized, but everything has been frozen in time. There is currently a coal operation going on up there, albeit by truck, and the coal is hauled to a new load out just up the road. The yard area has been ripped up in places and there are dangerous piles of dirt and coal all over the place. Frank and I were given permission to explore around the new operation and take pictures. We stayed on the driveway and took pics. There was an abandoned shaft up there too still with tracks that went vertically down the shaft. Apparently, this was cable hauled out.

Almost 6 years gone since the last post.
Is there any development for underground mining since then?
Shortline2 did do some nice pioneer work and I wish I could get some of lilb content,
but all links are dead.
What I have in mind is an underground mining system with lift or vertical transfer table,
just like the Chicago Tunnel Company.

Does anybody have suggestions or ideas?
