Ultramegaroute soon to be released

neil,

I just got back from Maimi and I was very happy to see that my CD had came. I just installed it. I must say that it looks nice Can you go through and change some of the parking spline. Like at the Oakwood Station instead of using the current spline use Parking bumper spline and Parking Stripe Spline It would more realistic . Also Any chance of you changing the crossing out to bnsf50's.

I've never noticed those parking splines - they do look pretty good - perhaps I'll go through and change some of them. That's a great idea.

As far as the switch machines go, I think I'm going to leave them the way they are - but if you feel like changing them for your self, feel free. Thanks again for the input!

A few more industry explanations:

CONTAINERS

You can pick up 40' containers at one of two facilities - 1 east of Gilby, and 1 just west of Oakwood. There are two major facilities - one at Ogden, and the pier near the Little Lake mine where the containers can be dropped off, as well as a couple of small facilities in Wallace and Halden.

There are lots of container flatcars on the dls.

STEEL COILS and I-BEAMS

Steel coils can be picked up at the container facility near Gilby as well as another facility west of Sherwood. They can be delivered to the big green factory in Palmer as well as a smaller facility in Halden.

I-beams can be picked up in Omarin, and delivered to the same big green factory in Palmer.

There are some awesome looking gondolas on the dls.

GRAINS

With the exception of the elevator at Omarin, all silos and elevators produce wheat which can be loaded and delivered to the piers at Lakeridge or Ogden. The Omarin elevator produces barley which can be delivered to the Bud-brewery in Gilby.

Also, a new industry that was recently added, was a sugar mill near the GHOO jct. You can pick up sugar there and deliver it to the distribution facility by the Lang pulp mill.

There are lots of covered hoppers on the dls.

More to come later.

CEMENT

There are two cement factories in Millbury - Use covered hoppers to transport the cement to the pier on the spur at Gilby.

DAIRY CATTLE

There are cattle transfer tracks at Carver, Millhurst, Monterrey, and Omarin. They can be picked up there and delivered to the drop-off tracks in Blainseville and Lakeridge.

There are some nice stock cars on the dls - search for 40ft stockcar.

GENERAL GOODS

Too many to mention - some warehouses/factories produce, and some consume - when in driver, right click on industry to see whether you can load or unload.

CHRYSLERS AND MERCs

There is an auto-plant in Caldwell - one track produces Mercedes, and the other produces Chryslers. The cars can be delivered to facilities in Sherwood, Ogden, and Halden.

Lots of autoracks on the dls.

PASSENGERS

All stations are interactive, and you can pick up or drop off people at all of them. They have not really been set up for a morning or evening rush hour, but I suppose they could be - just not something I was really all that interested in.

I think that's all of the industries, but if I think of any more, I'll add them later.

Remembered one more

PACKAGED LUMBER

At both of the lumber mills, there are tracks that produce CANFOR lumber products. These can be loaded onto centerbeam flats and delivered to transfer tracks in Millhurst and Gilby.

Hopefully that is all of them!

Thanks Neil, Looks like I have enough info to really get things going. If I have any questions, I'll send you a PM.

P.s. - my puter is getting use to your layout. It doesn't stutter anymore. LOL

Found a little glitch. Below is a shot at a crossing at Wallace just before the tunnel. The spline point makes the cars jump into the air. I tried to capture this, but i'm not that quick with the finger any more. LOL

Ok, back to work on my sessions. Later

There's actually a bigger problem with that crossing that I don't know how to fix. Cars going downhill towards the town don't stop at the crossing, but they do in the other direction. Not sure why this happens, but it also happens at the crossing in Millbury.

I'll look into the height thing - but if memory serves, there is a problem with some cars and certain roads, causing them to float above the road.

Not sure how much I can do about that, but good eye!

Thanks again

n

The cars are not floating, but jumping over a bump where the road meets the railway. Part of the road it pointing up about a 45 or more degrees. It looks like the road needs to be moved a tad away from the railroad. My guess. But, it's fun to watch them jump. LOL

Hey Jack

I just checked on my version - there didn't seem to be a problem, but I disconnected the road and re-laid it to connect to the crossing at both sides, and made sure all the spline points are the same height. The cars seem to go smoothly over the crossing, and I'm hoping that they won't blast through the crossing and through a train!

Wierd how it only did it in one direction - but if I have to, I guess I can live with that problem.

Thanks for the tip,

n

Neil,

I would like to suggest one thing in the area where you have passing siding Industry Tracks like in Gladstone. Instead of using the invisible spped signs would you consider using 'Invisible Speed-Signal v2 It will allow you to set the speeds through the junctions. It make it seem more realistic because you won't have trains going track through the switch at track speed till it hits the invisible Speed sign. Here is a little tuturial about how to set it up it is really easy to do. http://trains.0catch.com/Tut3-TrainSpdSwitch.htm

Thanks

Wow - I've never noticed that before - what a great idea!

Also, what a daunting task to start reprogramming! I'll have to look into it to see if it's plausible to do.

Thanks for the great tip!

I've added these invisible speed signals to some switches where there is a fair amount of deceleration required - these things are really cool - thanks again for the suggestion!

Hi Neil, did some Crude moving today.

Coal Meet Cude!

Turnarounds

The only request I might have at this point is at the Gasoline Refinery at Northshore. It is missing a turnaround at either end. No way to turn a loco and consist if it needs to return from which it came. I found out on a run. It entered the right way but went back in reverse to the crude loading area.

Jack:D

Hey Jack

Those are really nice shots - it looks like you figured out the industries! I'm glad to hear it.:)

I had thought about putting some sort of turnaround in there, but then I realized that I personally never really had any use for one there. I find that I'm usually just dropping some tankers there, and then continuing on up the line. There is a wye just over a bit at the Lakeridge pier, if necessary.

I really liked the shots - love to see some more!

Hi Neil, been busy on other stuff, More stuff.....

Screen_542.jpg

Waiting for the hourly Coal run....

Screen_501.jpg

Tried it like this, but couldn't get enough crude for 3 refineries. So, I broke up the Train into 3 runs of 10 cars each. That seems to work, but the last has to hold for 30 minutes for the Gilby crude 1 or 2 to restock.

More to follow....

Jack:D

i must say i havent done much with the route myself ive been busy with school. sorry about that Neil.

Just like your parents say - school is more important than trains! :D

And to Jack - glad to see you're using the industries! Me - I cheated a bit with the crude - I had a train ready that was already filled up, so I didn't have to wait.

A run I like to do is to take about 60 loaded tankers and drop them off at the three refineries as well as the two piers, and then later on, pick up the empties and take them back to the crude depot. That's a heavy train - I think it was something like 5000 tons!

BTW - Jack, those locos look really cool - what are they? From the distance, I can't recognize which company they're from.

Keep the shots coming! :)
