SR Route WIP: A beautiful spring day for a Standard 4!

I deal in reality, not Thomas the tank engine.

Mike.
The Reverend delt in reality too. Every single engine in the series was based on a real engine (give or take). Several real engines show up in the books, be them famous (Flying Scotsman, City of Truro) or not (many of the 'visiting diesels' had real numbers.)

Railway Preservation would, frankly, be nowhere near at the level it's at without the Railway Series and Thomas.

If Awdry didn't dramatize his own experiences on the Talyllyn as the happenings on the Skarloey, the former might not be around to this day.

The gatekeeping attitude of 'Thomas isn't for real train enthusiasts' is, frankly, bullcrap.

That might be his opinion on this stuff, which shouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. Not everyone has to like thomas, inspirations are one thing (as the case of the rev with creating his stories from his personal experiences), but maybe not have someone like isambardkingdombrunel's personal opinions on both thomas and persevered railways trigger you and maybe make the thomas community as a whole look bad, like hearing stuff like that is somehow the same as committing atrocities or something. I'm also a ttte fan to some extent (I personally prefer the classic model era stuff and maybe some RWS), but I do find that community to be annoying and repetative sometimes with some people's attitudes and crappy OCs and such

Would you mind pointing out where exactly I said such a thing?

Also I may be wrong here but I'm almost certain I'm not making anyone look bad. You two are fine making yourselves look bad all on your own.

some people's attitudes
To be frank there's some nasty attitudes in the Thomas fandom but no attitude is more toxic than 'railway preservation is a waste of time'.

1. I didn't mean that literally, but let's face it, some people will act like that when you might say/do something that is maybe a bit 'controversial' for some to hear/bear or tolerate, which some might take an offense like it's some kind of personal attack on them which honestly some ttte fans are and those individuals that might the minority (even if the loudest/obnoxious) does end up making the entire community look bad as a whole (at least to some normies/outsiders of the fandom) and the reputation of stuff like that doesn't exactly help. I'm not really saying that you are making anyone look bad, however your response to the other guy about his thoughts on thomas did came off a bit like you got slightly offended by it.

2. We're not making ourselves look bad on our own, we're just having our honest thoughts on this.

3. Did he really say that 'railway preservation is a waste of time'? Because I didn't see it as that, he might not be interesting in that personally, and mostly just associate them with thomas-ish type stuff from a regular non-thomas railway enthusiast point of view

My honest opinion boys, i did 20 years on BR (loco & dmu fitter). I have zero interest in preservation lines, i am sorry that my opinion upsets you LoustarJogger.
But i am in my 70's and i have found in all those years, that honest is always the best policy.
I'll get my coat.........................

Bailey Gate as it currently stands - some detail added and some buildings appearing in the background, such as the pub and some houses.

In the complex now, providing a good shot of the barrels. I think these contained whey but I'm not 100% sure - and yes, there really were that many in the photos I have!

View of the entrance to the dairy. The mainline sweeps through on a gentle curve and here disappears towards Blandford Forum, a mere 6 miles away.

With a lot of patience and a good deal of help from Surveyor 2.0!

I absolutely adore some of the tools in Surveyor 2.0 but can't wrap my head around it for normal use. I'll tend to flip back and forth between it and Classic while tweaking routes - the ability to adjust any object's roll is absolutely a lifesaver. And tweaking heights at miniscule amounts is so nice - I can use both to adjust cars with built-in shadows like jayholland's or kemplen's so those ground shadows are hidden within the road but the tires (tyres for you across the pond ;) ) don't clip. Absolutely phenominal.

A few more of Bailey Gate - work has been on the fields and trees recently so slowly getting there. Still quite a lot to do mind!

BR 4MT 76026 is seen at Bailey Gate with a train for Bournemouth West.

The same view but seen from the signal box veranda. There appears to be a train of tankers peeping through behind the barrels on the right.

The station viewed from the bridge showing the extent of the yard and dairy sidings. There's a single cattle pen in the middle of the yard and the dairy sidings can be seen in the background with the two sidings in the goods yard in the foreground.
BPfU57a.jpg

Looking around the yard we find ourselves tucked into the very corner looking back over the complex. The station entrance is to our right behind the concrete wall and the sidings with the vans on are the goods yard while the rest are the dairy - note how the two sidings on the left form a loop. We'll see the other end of this loop in a moment.
BPfS6WN.jpg

The other end of the loop, next to the running lines - the two lines converge on the left. For such a small station in the middle of nowhere Bailey Gate was surprisingly busy and the trackwork indicates just how complex it could be.
BPfSPsI.jpg

Back to the train now and departure time has arrived; 76026 draws out of the station and past the dairy loading platform, headed towards Broadstone, Poole and Bournemouth West.
BPfS7x2.jpg

Open countryside - this was a nice long, straight, level stretch of track where 70mph running was seen - pretty much the only chance you got on the entire line to reach the speed limit! Areas like this are what I have been spending my weekend doing - tedious, but it has to be done.

Spring 1957, 44090 is far from its Northeastern Region home. It has had an eventful past few weeks, even heading off to the-place-that-if-mentioned-will-cause-them-discordians-to-flood. Heading out of the Skipton MPD to haul goods bound for said island is 48093, an 8F. A recent ruffle over visiting the island has caused a crew division. (Don't tell anyone, but the driver today of the 8F has family on the island!)
The 44090 will be returning to her home that evening, her crew seem to be arguing over the island itself...
"Paul, if I must go to that dreadful island again I will-"
"Hush, now, Artie. The island's got scenics, I went last summer, my wife said when we retire there's this small town she'd adore to live in-"
"IF IT'S SUDRIAN, IT'S ONLY GOOD FOR SCRAP!!!"

Some drivers really will dip to extremes, huh?
