TTC Discussion

Great, you will learn alot on the New look with that book! (i have that book too!:D) and accouple of other books are good like:
"welcome aboard the GM NEW LOOK BUS"
"City Transit buses of the 20th century"
"trolley buses around the world"
"Rapid Transit series (RTS) GM and be
"The TTC story"
all of those i have and some other train/transit maps of the world, are some of the books, i have that are very Good! You will lear alot about the New Look and the RTS with those books!:)

I will try to buy 'em later, can't right now...parents would disagree...don't mention another book please...:p

BTW; they did a farewell for the G1 and M1.:D

I can only think they did a farewell trip for the M1 because it was the first Canadian built subway car, so they would of did a farewell, but you never know thy might just do a H4 farewell trip;)

I hope so. But not only the H4's, but the H5's and H6's too. Sure, H6's are newer than the H5 and very similiar to the T1, but it's the designs of it that make it a member of the "Old subway car" family.

I can see them doing a H6 farewell trip, because it will be the last H series subways, and i can also see them doing a T1 farewell trip, because if they buy T2's and subways like that, were they are not seperate subway cars, the T1 would be the last of a seperated subway car, compared to the T2.

T1's deserve some respect too...they are the last cars with the railfan window and once they are retired we may never get the chance to look out the front or back window of a train ever again...:'(

The H5's also need a farewell trip...coz they were the first cars with the chopper controls...and chopper controls make a nice buzzing sound that I like to listen too. Unfortunately the beautiful buzz of the H5 has been partly destroyed. When I was at Union, and I filmed the H5 departing, I noticed that the first 5 seconds of its buzz have been totally destroyed due to a whooshing sound. The H4's should be the only cars with the whoosh, since it makes no unique sound, but the H5's have a very special sound...anyone know why the whooshing sound is there now? I remember very well that it wasn't there two weeks ago...why is it there now? :o

I think they would usally do a farewell trip, when it has something special to it (in the form of First subway train, First Canadian built subway) But it is possible they might do a farewell trip (maybe email the TTC and put in a suggestion for a H4-H5 farewell trip? (they would retire before the H6) and they should reply back (maybe a a couple of weeks if not less) and tell us what they say! :) ) And about the H5 buzzing sound, the one you were filming, was probably just the one that didn't have the buzzing sound, i have seen H5's resently and they all had the buzzing sound!:) But for some reason, every time i ride a subway, a T1 comes, but when i wanted a T1, H5's only came! So maybe i should want to ride a T1 so i can really ride a H5!:p

I will try emailing them. :)

I still heard the Buzz on the H5 at Union...only 5 seconds missing...and it wasn't on that particular train, it happened on every H5 I saw that day...:p

Oh, well then i guess since the H5's are almost 30 years old, some would have there buzzing sound "damaged".

Here's a question: Which buzz is better? The H5 buzz or the H6 buzz?

My answer: I can't really say. The H5's buzz is as good as the H6's buzz...but the H5 buzz was better without the whooshing sound...while the buzz of the H6 is quiet...dude you can bearly hear it. :p

Also, do you know the way the H6 doors close, did you know that M1 doors closed the same way? I read it here: http://transit.toronto.on.ca/subway/5502.shtml

The page said:

The M-1s had a characteristic hitch to their doors, closing fast 90% of the way, and then stopping suddenly, to glide more slowly together.

I wonder why the H6's have it.:p

Now here's a first! An H5 without the "wssssssssssshzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" (that being the whooshing sound and the "zzz" being the buzz") In this video, there's just an H5 with a "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2fG7GIjQi4
This particular car is seen around 7:06 in the video. :udrool:

I was on an H6 today! I went from Warden to Spadina. I got off and Spadina, looked at the streetcars, then went to the YUS platform. Only T1s though. :o I then went back to Warden with a T1.
