hi,
can anyone help. i had a problem with my computer,had it fixed. re-installed trs2006 half way through the installation i recieved a pop up that informed me that world 2 was now redundent the pop up shows as this.
Feature: World 2
Component World 2
File E:\Install\data.cab.
ERROR Data error(cyclic redundancy check).
can this be rectfied or would it be best to purchase a new version of trs2006.
Please don't advise trs 2009 ihave tried it and i prefer trs2006

What the error basically means is that the disc has a problem with it that is affecting the file or component that is mentioned in the error message.

Unfortunately, apart from trying a disc repair kit or similar, there may not be much that can be done to rectify this problem (a cyclic redundancy error usually means it cannot read the disc properly or that part of the disc is scratched or otherwise damaged - I've had it happen to me before, so it does happen sometimes. It may be easier to buy a new copy of trs2006 unless you are lucky enough for a disc repair kit to do the job (most computer stores should sell them) but it does depend on how bad the damage is - it might just be some dirt or similar on the disc which can be wiped off.

Sometimes the cyclic redundancy error is the fault of the disc drive. Perhaps you have another installed, or you could borrow one to install?

Yep, CRC (cyclic redunancy check) usually means errors when reading the disk.

Try carefully cleaning the underneath of the disk. Wipe along radii from centre to circumference.

It might also be worth using a CD lens cleaning disk on the drive, especially if you're getting problems with other disks. However, check the manual as some manufacturers advise against using lens cleaners.

If it's an external drive then with the equipment switched off and unplugged from the mains supply, remove and reconnect the signal cable a few times at each end so as to clean the connectors. If you know what you're doing then you could also do this with an internal drive.

Hi,

I've had this occasionally - try copying the whole CD into a folder on a fixed disc (usually c:\).

Theny try again.
It appears that some DVD drives or drivers are not happy reading during installation...
The copy function appears to use different internal functions to the "open for read" function, so it often works...
