Trainz Update Announcement (SP5)

Frankly I don't think anyone thinks about the fact that they have so many opinions on how N3V messes up Trainz, but don't really think about how THEY would do trying to develop a game on THEIR OWN GAME ENGINE, with 80% of the content graciously made by THE COMMUNITY. If you want to trash the devs, then go create a better game engine and train simulator, and ho boy, you better make every update perfect for EVERY opinionated player that owns your game!
If you don't like Trainz, don't play it, and don't make flame messages to the devs who did all the work to make the game.

I’ll have no problem never touching the game again. Please reread the last line of my previous post. Thanks!

I think this company spitted its community in the face so many times during the years . Just ask the content creators ( for example Sirgibby ) how many times they have had to start over a route / session update , because the company released a patch / service pack or even a new version of the game that made years of work obsolete because of compatibility issues .

I know what they say about arguing with idiots but......

It seems to me that the logical conclusion of the more hysterical posts so far is that N3V should never try to improve the game (which they clearly have over the years) and therefore we should all still be playing Trainz CE?

Updates break stuff, and my experience so far (20+ years) is that it gets fixed.

As for compatibility, as I type I'm testing some new steam physics on a route first built in TRS2004; how many other games/sims can you do that in?

Quite true. Updates are a part of improving games and in some cases just keeping them plain usable due to OS restrictions or compatibility for example. Plus, if you don't want the updates N3V does not force them (like online multiplayer games or Windows do for example), and you can choose which build you want to some extent. In the end, no game with continuous development (Trainz Plus, Fortnite, Halo Infinite, etc.) ever stops getting updates, for better or worse. Epic rolls out mandatory updates for Fortnite every month or so! We in the Trainz community should be thankful that N3V doesn't force every service patch on users so that they get stuck with something they don't prefer.

It's been 10 days since my last post in this thread and all is still running great with Mac version 128490. Haven't seen a single "Pop Under" error/info message. Picked up some tips on a thing or two from posts, otherwise, I did run a DBR just to see if anything would break, nothing alarming or out of the norm. Flying around 22,000MB/s with new OWC Accelsior 8M2 setup across PCIe Gen 4 x16, so Trainz is happy. Great job Devs.

After the fix provided by @JCitron my build 128486 (Trainz Plus) and build 128487 (TRS22PE) are both running perfectly. I am currently exploring (and documenting) the Dispatch Manager feature of Trainz Plus.

well golly gee, my game has been working stable as ever since this update released! no issues with the trackside objects being placed, no issues with a sticky camera snapping to random angles, and definitely no issues with loading multiple queues with the same commodity in a single car.

... then again, I also haven't patched and am still running build 123794. Good luck everybody else! So happy to pay into the software as a service ideology for this kind of stuff!

Thanks for making me laugh .
I think posts #232 and 233 speak to @2995Valliant's and my opinion. While updates can have bugs overall they are still there to improve, and those cases where they do break the game is not necessarily the fault of the devs or patch but user error or a fault in the installation. Either way it's the exception, not the norm.

The game doesnt have to be perfect but I expect key features of the game to work after I update. It feels like the devs of trainz don't even play the game.

I agree!

They do not use the game. Their lead programmer, Windwalkr (Chris Bergemann) said so. In the early days of Trainz, this was a requirement by Greg Lane. The route or whatever they used for testing didn't have to be perfect but it was something to see what issues people were having.
