Trainz Update Announcement (SP4)

OK I'll take any help I can get, thanks.

It's a MSI Pulse GL76 12UEK-052 https://us.msi.com/Laptop/Pulse-GL76-12UX/Specification

The important part is that everything worked fine until the SP4 update. So if something got borked in my video settings, it was the update that did it.

Since then, when I start Trainz I get nothing, it tries to launch from Steam and dies with no error, no indication of any Trainz process getting started.

I have unplugged the USB monitor adaptor. I've uninstalled and reinstalled. Rebooted. Booted into safe mode but I can't get safe mode to work with networking, so it won't run there either.
Check everywhere for logs, I can't believe that Trainz doesn't have any logs to check. If they do, I'm on round 4 with support and they haven't suggested it after I asked.

I'm not trying to brag but I'm 56, I've been using computers since I was 11, have a MSCS, etc. Trust me, I've exhausted basic troubleshooting.

I have checked several places and everything says my Nvidia card is active and is the chosen card for Trainz

Here's images I have sent in to support:

Thanks for any help. I suspect no amount of help here is going to fix this, I suspect there is something borked in their SP4 update.

FWIW I'm not the only person who's saying Trainz won't run after the update.

There are signs of life in Windows Process Explorer, Trainz 2022 shows up for a couple seconds while Steam tries to launch it, then it disappears.

I'm just not a Windows guy, without the code I wouldn't know how to debug this.

Is there a debug mode, some arguments to pass to the program to turn on error reporting?

Folks, I need some help with TRS22 SP2 updating to SP3 so that I can update to SP4 and purchase the new version of the Pennsylvania & Berwind V2.0. I keep getting the same error when patching:
Failed to download installation data. Details: Result: -12. Path: 'C:/Program Files/N3V Games/patch.bin'. URL: 'http://dl1.n3vgames.com/Patch/STREAMS/trs23_q1/540/4ed946bf3386df611b1774dbc776b5ca.bin'.
I've clicked 'Retry' several times and I get the same error over and over. I've already posted in the discord about this and am asking for help here.

Hi Jordon. Which version of 22 do you have? Have you checked to make sure you are on the correct patch stream? I had to change mine from TRS22 to TRS22PE. I think I was getting a similar error.

I'm running TS22 PE but the only patch stream that shows is TS22 or TS22 beta.

Thoughts?

Thanks John

Just curious if you checked the systems Events in Event Viewer like I mentioned in this post, or have you tried running as administrator?

Hi, yes, I have tried this, thank you.

Just lost a day from Trainz tech support, no answer overnight with any further steps.

I don't want to sound like a crank but I'm about done with Trainz.
I might see if Steam will do a refund.
Seems like a great program if it runs well for you, otherwise not so much.

My apologies, I think my memory is faulty. After checking it looks like those are the only choices for me as well. It seems like I had a couple of errored starts, bu I don't know what I did to fix it.

This update seems to have broken the surveyor camera a little bit. Its become way too sensitive and the left and right movements snap instead of it being a gradual movement. Also holding down the up arrow key causes the camera to spin (I hope I explained that well)
I have noticed this as well.. been driving me crazy, best way around it (especially for track laying) is just to look straight down.. sort of avoids the bug.

Sorry to report this after I had said earlier that the Mouse in Surveyor was working good,
I have noticed just now that it is not very good yet.
It moves way to fast when using the Keyboard arrow keys, using the shift key does help slow it down.
All in all it still has issues. It is very good in the 122411, and the Platinum builds.

In 126280 I've gone to edit a rule and re-sized it's window to fill the screen but I can't get it back to a smaller size again, which is making it difficult to edit some of the rules in my session.

Is this an issue with this build as I don't recall coming across this before? Only the first Edit Session window allows me to go full screen and back again.

Just tried it in the same build and you are correct. You can. of course, click the Close or Save buttons to drop the rule window back to the Editor list but the next time you open that rule, or any other rule, it opens to fill the entire screen.

Restarting Trainz does not reset the problem and I can see no control setting in the Settings menu that would fix it.

Reported as a bug.

Thank you Peter. Everything you said is exactly what I experience.

I deeply regret having updated to Sp4. I have founded that all height up/down commands have now a lag of about 3 seconds, which makes terrain edit much slower and time consuming. It happens in all my hd routes, has anybody experienced anything like this?

Jose

Aha! I guess I don't have to give up on Trainz after all. Support finally responded with some useful troubleshooting instructions (sort of, read details), which I appreciate very much.

So I don't know the problem but this fixed it:
  1. go into %appdata%\Local\N3V Games\trs22
  2. make a new directory there, I just had a single build bcs6jf111 directory and I called it build bcs6jf111-new
  3. edit the userdata-redirect-map.txt file
  4. change the line that points to your build dir, make it point to the new empty dir you created
  5. save the file
  6. launch Trains
So now I'm up and running.

Details: Actually maybe I can't read, correct me if I'm wrong, but they linked me to this help page to fix things:

So what I'm still a bit frosted about, if you read through that page it all assumes that you can run Trainz in the first place! Which I couldn't.
But it gave me the idea to make a new dir and point to it.

So if there's a question, I guess now I have to import my content into the new directory?
If I do it one at a time until it breaks, that's how I identify the culprit?
