I'm glad you got everything up and running.Aha! I guess I don't have to give up on Trainz after all. Support finally responded with some useful troubleshooting instructions (sort of, read details), which I appreciate very much.
So I don't know the problem but this fixed it:
So now I'm up and running.
- go into %appdata%\Local\N3V Games\trs22
- make a new directory there, I just had a single build bcs6jf111 directory and I called it build bcs6jf111-new
- edit the userdata-redirect-map.txt file
- change the line that points to your build dir, make it point to the new empty dir you created
- save the file
- launch Trains
Details: Actually maybe I can't read, correct me if I'm wrong, but they linked me to this help page to fix things:
Moving or creating a new Local Data Folder - Powered by Kayako Help Desk Software
support.trainzportal.com
So what I'm still a bit frosted about, if you read through that page it all assumes that you can run Trainz in the first place! Which I couldn't.
But it gave me the idea to make a new dir and point to it.
So if there's a question, I guess now I have to import my content into the new directory?
If I do it one at a time until it breaks, that's how I identify the culprit?
The obvious question to ask is are all your hardware drivers (video, WiFi, Bluetooth, various Intel, etc) also up to date? Both of the PCs are running W11 and the first failure of TRS22 was before the latest Windows update and the second one was after it, so I am reluctant to blame MS on this occasion
Yes, they are I monitor updates daily using three sources: Windows update, Avast Driver update and the Intel driver update tool. The obvious question to ask is are all your hardware drivers (video, WiFi, Bluetooth, various Intel, etc) also up to date?
Have you recently updated or reinstalled your antivirus program?I use the retail version of TRS22 PE, I run it on several Windows PCs. I updated some of my installations to SP4 126273 and a few days ago one install that had been working would not start, the shortcut reported missing exe file. Sure, enough the exe file had gone, I don't know where. I used my digital download to reinstall the 126273 version and it was restored to working order, I assumed finger trouble.
Today a second install failed in the same way on a different PC and this time I am sure it was not my fingers at fault. To restore this version to working order I copied the exe file from the first PC and that fix restored this install to working order. The same thing happening on two separate PCs after the same update stretches my belief in coincidence to breaking point, so I have submitted a ticket to the help desk and eagerly await their response.

No John that is something I am aware of, and I have a discipline of manually updating the AV and monitoring what happens, I also have the Trainz install folders excluded from the AV Scans to protect against that risk.Have you recently updated or reinstalled your antivirus program?
I've gone to edit a rule and re-sized it's window to fill the screen but I can't get it back to a smaller size again
Reported as a bug.
The first thing that I would try is to reenter your user name and password in the Trainz Settings MyTrainz tab. Then restart Trainz. This is not uncommon after an SP update. For some reason, the game doesn't think I'm authorised to use SP4 even though I was able to download it off the trainz website. Anybody know how to fix this outside of contacting helpdesk? they've not been very helpful lately
