Trackside Observer

Is there any kind of "Attachment Point" or object that one can click on and become a virtual Railside Train Watcher during an A.I. session? [Note: I KNOW there is the "roaming" camera view, but I'm talking about just a single spot where I, as an observer, can stand, turn my "head" this way and that, and watch the trains go by. In the Roaming Camera view, when you turn, the view sweeps around in a wide arc... I want a stationary view.] Does an "attachment view point" or anything like this exist in TRAINZ?

Thank you all for all the help you have given me over the years.

David

there are "trackside" cameras you can place anywhere on a route. then go to them during a session. you automatically go to the closest one to your selected train. When placing them you have 2 options; a static camera that doesn't move at all; or a tracking camera that pivots to watch the train go by.

Yes, I know about those. I mean a STATIONARY point where one can stand and watch all the trains go by a certain place.

I think the man is looking for something like:

username "Signal Box with interior view"

It's made as a piece of rolling stock, so you have to set it on invisible track, but this is so there can be an interior, where you can sit all warm and dry and pan around looking at the trains going by.

Dave, I think there are also some cameras set up as people on the DLS, but I like the tower view because it gives you more options. You could also place a drivable car near the tracks and accomplish the same view without the elevation of the tower.:)

This is an excellent question David.

Personally I'd like to see the program implement an additional "keypad controlled" camera that you can fly around without having to right click the mouse. That way you're not constantly inadvertantly clicking on layout objects causing confusion with movement.

It would be "swell" if there were "hot-spots" you could assign to different camera locations not unlike <Ctrl>-1 <Ctrl>-2 to switch between engineers.

Heck, why not create "lightposts w/ cameras" like you see along the freeway for monitoring auto traffic? They must use those now along lines, no?

What I use is a drivable pedestrian (on the dls) and a length of invisible track. Works for me.

Why not just press 4 on the key pad and place yourself where you want. 4 detaches you from any train, even if the train gets deleted the view still remains useable.
Alternative is place a piece of invisible track at the view point and place driveable people (not the walking one) on it, you then get a persons view of the area.

Unfortunately (at least in TRS2006), if after pressing the '4' key and setting yourself up in a perfect trainwatching spot you then go into map view and return you'll find yourself viewing whatever the last train selected was--losing your trainwatching spot. This used to work properly in TRS2006 but was 'fixed' with 2006's SP1. Go figure...

(Haven't tried it in TRS2009 but assume it still 'works' the same way.)

I made ya'll a figure to set on invisible track where every you want to watch your trains or whatever ya want as a pedestrian. has interior view to pivot at eye level and center of figures head. Look in my website under Components.

You have two options:
In the Surveyor Options settings change your Compass Movement setting from mouse to keys. Then use the arrow keys to move the cursor. Holding down the Ctrl key while using the arrow keys allows using the normal mouse setting behavior of tilt and rotate.

Or leave the setting on mouse and hold down the Ctrl key and use the arrow keys to move the cursor around the map. Doing it this way has the added bonus of using the shift key to slow the rotation of the view when using the arrow keys.

This is what the bookmark dots are for if you are in surveyor. You can save up to 10 locations that you can return to with the push of a button. You save the current location in surveyor by right clicking the unlit bookmark light. You return to a saved location with a left click. In TS2009 the bookmarks are in the search asset panel. Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

Gotta love those free websites...

^ That's strange because I was just a few minutes ago DLoading the Kuid and didn't have any trouble.

However, when I installed the "Train Watcher" there are missing dependencies.

Missing brain matter

Sorry, I forgot and did not include everything in the zip. :o Look for the names of the dependancies in kuid table inside config file, then go to that catigory page in my site to get them. Later I will update the zip with everything and I have been asked for a change to the image too. So we'll see!
As for the "down'time", this is something new for 2009 as it never was this bad in the past. Did Auran buy Yahoo, ya think? Just give it a few minutes to run through quota time.

Brain found!

OK, I updated the zip to include everything needed, I hope! I understand people do not know my site as well as I do ( I forget where things are too alot!), But I want to say here, that everything needed for my assets can be found inside the MonkeyWrench Website.

There Ya' go...that "Train Watcher" asset downloads great...and the low angle cab view is really cool...If it had a signalmans red lantern held out at arms length, and a dirty yardworkers clothes, and a striped engineers hat, that it would be even better looking. I think mines gonna get arrested for trespassing on RR tracks soon !

I also downloaded the "Walkers" animated pedestrians...lol...they are hillariously funny looking in animation and are hound dawg ugly, but they have no cab view. I have a bunch of them walking down the center of the NEC mainline at present...not a safe practice at all !
