The Preservation Group Thread.

I've started a thread for everyone who is involved with any railroad related preservation group.

Whether you are the Tennessee Valley, the IRM, a small excursion line, a depot that is in your town or just a small relics group, this is your thread.

If your group has an update that you would like to be shared with the community, post it here, I think we all enjoy reading about this stuff.

Or, if you just want to share your group in general with everybody, that would be great!:)

Cheers,
Woody:wave:

Most people here know I'm involved with the Monticello Railway Museum in Monticello Illinois.:D

As I've mentioned before we're getting a SD40-2, IC #6071 (GM&O 950).

Is there a way you can translate this into English?

That way, someone may be able to help you.

Thanks,

ET&WNC

I am planning to join the ET&WNC Historical Scociety!:D I can definately help in the Doe River Gorge Track Restoration(Even if it's not them).

I have friends with the Niles Canyon Scenic Railway. I have not been able to get them interested in Trainz. I guess they prefer the real thing.

I've been helping for the past year to restore Western Maryland 4-6-2 #202. It's one of 2 surviving WM steamers, the other being the Shay #6 which is at Cass. (734 is a fake, it was originally LS&I #34.) We don't have that much to do, but we have almost no income, so getting her running may be a problem if we don't get any kind of grant or anything.

I'm a member of the East Lancs Railway in Bury(http://east-lancs-rly.co.uk/) and have been volunteering in the diesel department for the past 4 years, seems longer to me. Its a great place to work as you are with a great bunch of people, some who drove westerns on the great western mainline and some who just remember the 37/4s on the North Wales Coast. A small group of us are working on repainting our Class 47/4(the second oldest in pres),47402 back into its D1501 guise, Heres a picture: http://traintv.fotopic.net/c1765835.html , We hope for it to be ready by next month and then once thats done Garcia Hansons 50 should be put in shed for prep for a repaint, I will let everyone think of the livery its going.....

I'm involved in the restoration of Western Maryland 202. We have yet to actually organize a group instead of being a group of volunteers, but we're doing that this winter so we can start fundraising and doing heavy work next year.

I am a member of the Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Society here in Cilfftonforge Va. No steam as of yet but working on some. we have three restored C & O cabooses that some members stay in when they spend the night after helping restore some of the cars. We have a old work car that housed working when on track maintains.this car was used in ww2 to haul troops to the Norfolk Naval Base in VA. ( we are going to start restoring early next year.we have the Gasby tavern dinner car that we have hot meals in. we just built a lookout tower that is just like the JD towers on the C & O on the James river in 1950. Going to put in the switch levers like back then. Hopping by may of next year we will have the new ticket office for Amtrak and shorty after that CSX will move the station there too. Come down and see all we done and plan to do. Bring the Kids(all of them) We have a 7 1/2 inch train for everybody to ride. Also see the 7 1/2 inch live steam Alleghany. We have plans to build a car repair shop. And more.
Come see and join the work, ha ha.
