So I Reinstalled TRS2006...

Angry Trainz Nerd
Feeling unusually nostalgic, I decided to reinstall TRS2006 on my computer. Upon opening CMP, I noticed it freezes on "Checking username and password are valid....." and I'm forced to close it with Task Manager. I am using Windows 7. Any tips?

Thanks,
Matt

That particular issue was well-known with TRS2006, particularly in the pre-SP1 version. Check what build you have in-game - if it's less than 3092 you will need a patch.

What is your Trainzbuild ?

I'm sure you have tried blanking out your UN & PW, and saving, as blanked out ... shutting down Trainz
Restarting Trainz, re-entering your same identical UN & PW ... saving

Edit Account at Planet Auran: Edit Password: highlight it ... and re-enter the same identical password ... save

Edit your profile (making no changes) and saving your profile

Your EMail address, UN & PW are case sensitive ... what you entered in when you originaly registered the game in 2006, the identical information must be used today in 2013

OK - that's the SP1 version from Merscomm (from memory).

I would suggest doing a database repair by deleting the assets.tdx file from the Trainz install folder, and the assets.bku file from the Cache folder, then running Trainz itself to allow it to do a full rebuild - be aware, this may take a while.

Also make sure your details are correct in the Configure Trainz box.

Ok, CMP works now, but now nothing's popping up when I go to the DLS tab in Content Manager. The Download Helper panel is up and working.

That may be a symptom of it not being supported, but it's hard to tell. Failing that, you've always got the option of using the Download Station link above and using the FTP option, then downloading the dependencies afterwards in Content Manager.

EPA: My experience with having both 2006 and 2010 is that you don't really want to use the 2006 CMP DLS window to get content from the DLS for 2006. It caused me more problems than it was worth. I got what 2004-06 content I needed (which was not that much since I already had a ton of 2004-06 assets in my 2006 version) from the black pages (FTP) of the DLS. Save the CDP outside Trainz and then import them into 2006 using the CMP. Also, I see you have TS-12. I have 2010 but use 2006 quite a bit. I found I can get assets from the DLS up to TS-12 (since I don't have it) and from other non-DLS sites that are not supposed to work in 2006. However, I've had about a 98% success rate with installing 2009-2010 CDP's into 2006 and then backdating the assets to work in 2006. You may or may not choose to do this since it requires some knowledge of working with config files and knowing the "backdating process". I'm not going to get into that here since that is off topic to your immediate question.

Well now I'm having another problem. Not sure if it's related. When I click the "Start" button in the launcher, it freezes. and I'm forced to close it with task manager.

Would it be related to the CMP problem?

Sometimes a restart of the PC is needed, sometimes Trainz takes a couple minutes to show up, as it has started, but hasn't displayed yet.

Tick desktop icon properties: Run as Administartor

Make "Allowable Program Exception Rules" through your antivirus

Auran\TRS2006\launcher.exe
Auran\TRS2006\bin\CMP.exe

Ok, got that fixed. Another problem though. The game runs very smoothly in Driver and Railyard, but crawls in Surveyor. Any ideas?

Sometimes a signal will be super high poly, a high poly track, loco, grass, trees, hundreds of railcars... etc ... will result in low framerates

TRS2006 takes 20 minutes to load on Windows 8

I have a similar problem after re-installing TRS2006 on Windows 8. It runs as normal, but it takes about 20 minutes to load.

EDIT
I forgot to add: On the same machine I run TC which loads much faster.

This is probably something to do with the better code in TC and up, which is more related to TRS2009 than TRS2006. N3V put better support for the newer processors which TRS2006 does not support.

I'm currently running TS12 under Windows 8.1 (RTM) and I can say it runs faster than it did under Win 8.0. The drivers are better and there are fewer processes running as well, and probably a lot of other things we can't see that make it a whole lot better.

Grrrr, more CMP problems....

Ok, here's the story.... I opened CMP to install some content. I opened it from the launcher, and after the "Updating blah blah" and the "Checking username and password blah blah blah" went away, CMP completely locks up. Can't click anything, and I'm forced to close with Task Manager. I have an exception in the firewall, and it's running as an administrator. Any ideas?

Well I think we can all agree that TRS2006 CMP is seriously the most unstable piece of software ever made, huh?

EDIT: Okay, another problem... *sigh* Paintshed. Yes. You heard me. Paintshed. I launched it via edit > new paintshed asset and it instantly freezes. The orange loading bar thing on top wasn't there, and when I try to close it, the "X" button flickers... and it never closes.

TRS2006 Paintshed is defective (missing Lang Files) ... needs TRS2004 Paintshed to be downloaded, and placed into the TR2006 bin file ... Paintshed is a substandard program, that is only good for painting a few choice Paintshed Template locos and railcars, nothing else ... Vistamare Trainzmap does work just fine, as does the TRS2006 CMP, they work flawlessly ... Did you install with antivirus temporarily disabled ?

I have never had any problems with TRS2006 Trainz Railwayz build 3337, nor TC1&2 ... and they both work flawlessly !
